As we crossed over the gulf stream and into the Bahamas, averaging 9 kts, it was THE fastest sail of our lives. Now before you say anything, I know... there are other boats out there that obviously go faster... But that's not the point.... Here on Uma Land, that's a record 😆
Also, I Get sea sick for the very first time _ After living on the boat for 4 years...

Quarentine is probably the best thing for your vid's -- About sea sickness- The only way I could cure it was to steer the boat- also as great as modern nav is can anybody there run a sextant? My dad in his late 70's was crewing boats because he was an ex commercial pilot and would do a sight every night-- so he ALWAYS knew where they were without any electricity. Just a thought

We have a 1972 Pearson 36. We are constantly amazed at how fast the boat is. The engineers did an amazing job with making a fast well balanced boat. It's also very comfortable in rough seas. I've recently discovered your videos and I'm enjoying your adventures. Be safe and God bless.

Great video! I did that same trip a bunch of years ago, and there was NO wind and we had to motor the whole way to Green Turtle Cay. The water was so flat you could count the starfish on the bottom and it was SO hot we stayed naked most of the way. Great trip! Keep up the good work, and thank you.

Good decision on "just sailing", guys. So many cruisers want to sail in direct lines as if they are a power boat, and turn on the engines when they get themselves into the wind on a direct course, when we all know that a 'fast' sail is more pleasant, where mentally you feel like you are 'getting there', and if an 'off course' way point becomes a stop over, well...smell the roses with a smile!

Hey guys, Ed from Portland Oregon. I have sailed the Bahamas many times in the 1980’s and 2000’s. Too many stories to tell...maybe some evening over a glass of wine. (Bota box, Pinot Grigio...) you sailed past a small slice of heaven called Morane Cay (pronounced key). There are canyons of coral. Make sure to visit the yacht club in the hurricane hole just north of white sound (Green Turtle) for a relaxing drink. I swam with my first hammer head off the north end of Great Guana. I thing there is a golf course now...and there was a bar called Nippers on the end on the beach at the settlement. Man o’War is sleepy and dry and very properly religious but the north east end to Scotland Cay has a great national park with a civil war wreck. I swam with an 8’ spotted eagle ray there. Watch out going into Hopetown...it’s shallow. Say Hello to Pete. He lives in Hopetown and will be on the cruisers net. I hope Vernon at the grocery is still doing well. It has been many years but he makes the best Bahamian bread and key lime pies you will ever eat. (We took about 30 loaves back with us one year...explain that to customs) light house. Surfing in White Sound. The sand bar between Elbow and Tiloo. Eating at The Harbors Edge, Captain Jacks and even dolphins in the harbor. Oh! Take a day trip to Little Harbor for a cave explore and a little history....if you sail past Sandy Point and see a smashed up wooden boat from the 1970’s, that might be Inshallah. (Arabic...by the will of God.) That would be the inglorious end to my brother in-law’s cruise. Apparently God had other plans...DON’T sail at night. (It’s better now with GPS, radar and other great nav equipment...but. I look forward to the videos and reliving good times!

Couple of quick suggestions for your Nav settings. I have Lowrance but bet it is the same on the B & G. For the screen settings setup change to look up which will always have the arrow pointing to the top of the screen (the direction of travel). Also there should be a choice for look ahead which will drop the arrow to aprox 1/3 from bottom giving you the larger area ahead of you. Nearly done with the binge, Great job with the videos.

Sailing with Radar on, one should put the display as seen from the boat, head up of if coupled to a compass, course up. North up don't give you an immediate idea of the surrounding. You already have charts or maps. As Radar is an auxilium (help) to navigation, it should be used to it's maximum contribution. Your adventure is so nice. Thank you from Italy.

I chartered a C&C 36 sailboat out of Marsh Harbor many years ago and we ran aground going into Green Turtle Cay. It was also low tide but it was the lowest tide of the year. We were right in the middle of the channel. We tried all the normal ways to get off but we were stuck good. It was about an hour until the tides turned so we drew straws as to who stayed with the boat while the rest of the crew headed for the bar. About 2 hrs later I radioed a big power boat coming in to give me a big wave as they passed and I was off. The crew showed back up and I finally made it to the bar as well. The bar had a ring on the end of a string and if you swung it and could catch a nail in the pole, you got a free drink, but you had to do it on the 1st try. Guess what I did it, and all my other crew mates had not. My reward for staying with the boat. Enjoy yourself there at Green Turtle and points South. The beach on the East side of Green Turtle was great back then. How is it now?

Having been on a very small USN destroyer for a couple of years (in the North Atlantic for nearly a year), our supervising petty officer operated on the premise that there were two types of sailors; those who HAD been seasick, and those who WOULD be seasick. Usually, when someone got sick he would have you go stand an outside watch for a while (so all you had to do was relax and stand lookout) and give you a half gallon of water and sleeve of saltine crackers, it WILL settle you stomach some. HOPE THIS HELPS A LITTLE BIT, FRESH AIR IS REALLY WHAT WILL SETTLE YOUR STOMACH!

One thing I learned shrimping in South Florida was that there was some weather it was actually (felt) warner being nearly naked than bundled up. One night on the way out to fish a wave crashed over the bow and through the open window and soaked my street closed. Then, after I changed to work clothes another wave crashed through the still open window and soaked my work clothed. The captain (my brother) dressed in wet clothes and full oilies and was miserable all night. I stripped to my underware with an oil skin apron and rubber boots. I was relatively warm all night. and thanks to the diesel and the engine cover my clothes were toasty when we got back to shore. ;-) Never told that story before.

Maybe it's sound a little weird but, can you two make a long vid of UMA only for contemplation of sailing, looking foward at, maybe, sunset, close to the Bow or someting, only whit the nature audio? I love reading and I tink maybe it's nice to see (contemplate) UMA's sailing at full screen when reading. What about?

I was thinking of you guys when I was listening to the news the day before you left and the weather lady was saying that the temp was going to be in the low 40's and gale force winds. I was hoping you'd delay for a day or 2 until things became more reasonable for a passage. Anyway, ya'll did great and it looks like it was a lot of fun. Okay, 2 points, seasickness, happens to everyone eventually (altho there are some of us it never happened to). Best remedy, stay on deck and dry saltine crackers. Hope you never have to give it a try. and 2, Cay is pronounced "key" . Why? Haven't a clue, but when my Dad was living on St. Thomas, he said that's how the natives pronounced it, so there you go. Take care, be safe, and can't wait for the next video adventure!

I know you guys get a lot of responses about safety harnesses and lifelines. Something else you may want to consider is to add boards or planks to the bottom of the stantons all the way around the boat. If one slps/falls the first defense will be something restraining the egress at deck level, not real difficult to do and it can be installed with plastic wood with virtually no maintenance. Food for thought, I personally wouldn't sail a boat offshore with out it, fair winds.
