Hi from Tennessee, USA. I just bought a raised bed garden this year and so excited to get my garden going. So glad your video popped up on my newsfeed. I love okras and this video was very helpful. I just subscribed this channel and looking forward for the next helpful videos to help me with my gardening. I just love how you are teaching your children how to grow healthy food. They are very lucky to have a Momma like you. I was lucky to have my Italian Grandparents from Italy, teaching me when I was younger. They even brought back seeds from there. Sweet peas was one of them. Oh the good old days. Thank you for sharing your knowledge to us. Have a blessed day.

Great! I live in Minnesota, where it gets really cold, last year I was able to grow some okra. A faster way is exactly what I need to be able to grow more before the temperature drops.
@EarlyMusicDiva11 ай бұрын
Here in Colorado, near the mountains, I have found that my okra grows much better if I presprout it, as shown in this video, but then when I plant it out, I peg down a sheet of black plastic on the soil, cut small holes in it, and plant the okra through the holes. The plastic keeps the soil warmer, especially at night. (Although our high-altitude days can top 100F, the nights here are much cooler - even in July, the nights are often only about 60F). Okra needs warm soil to grow well. (Be sure it's black plastic, not clear - the clear plastic is TOO hot and can cook the plants.) I use the same trick for growing other hot-weather crops like peppers and melons.
@sylviasandy11 ай бұрын
That's awesome. You can also start your seeds indoors early like 4 weeks before transplanting them into your garden. This way you get enough harvest before the cold comes.

Northern part of Minnesota here too !!! I grew up in Oklahoma and I love okra ❤ I start it in the house 6 weeks before planting out, harden off the plants well because they are sensitive to cool weather, I plant it on the south side of my garage or house so it gets extra heat and use plenty of mulch to hold in the soil warmth at night. At the end of the season let some pods get overgrown and kind of dry, bring in and finish letting them dry, save those seeds for next year they will become more adapted to cooler climates. There is a dwarf bubba that doesn’t get very tall and is a prolific producer.

Hi Sandy, I love okra and live in Canada. I was wondering if I can do the steps until the sprout then put it in an egg carton until the weather is more stable for planting outdoors in late May. Please advise as per your expertise. Thanks
@sylviasandy9 ай бұрын
@@faridaahmad5061 Hi Frida. I hope you're doing well. Egg carton isn't deep enough to keep it for weeks before transplanting. The roots will outgrow the carton quickly. You can use seed-starting trays that are deep or use disposable cups. Be sure to make holes at the bottom for drainage if you're using disposable cups. I hope this helps, Frida. ❤️ ❤️

Great video! Good instructions and music. Very clear and helpful, thanks! I love fried okra. Gotta share a funny story-- a dear family friend who visited every summer from a big city, unfamiliar with okra, but liked it when we served it during her visits-- "i cooked some okra for my neighbors. They liked it, but I won't cook it very often. It takes too much time to stuff all those little holes." 😅🤣😂

I am from south central Missouri I like to soak my okra seeds and let them get a tiny bump sprout then sow them in the warn soil, around the first of May. I am at this time trying to see if some 20+yr old Cayenne pepper seeds that was given to me will sprout and grow. I love winter sowing. I do not have any grow lights nor do I have a south facing window
