I played this game with assists up until I started watching this guy's videos, embarrassingly that has only been about 3 weeks, but he convinced me to drop all assists. I left the racing line on the longest, but only used it until I was confident with the brake markers. Within a 2-3 weeks I am meeting and beginning to improve on personal best times. So it really doesn't take long, that was my concern, and surprisingly it is a quicker process than you'd think. It's a work in progress, and frustratingly tough at times, but I feel as though turning off assists has made it a completely new and improved game. 10/10

Thanks JD! I personally really like to hone my driving skills in Time Trial, race craft will come later. First ever F1 game was F2016, started playing a year ago. This year and F1 2017 I have gone no-assists fully. I find that the hardest assist to turn off is the 3D racing line, you have to learn the circuits all over again and accept a lot slower laps for quite a while. Turning off traction control wasn't nearly as difficult, I learned that setting a lower brake pressure helps, along with brake bias more to the rear. These two are the first I adjust when running on a new circuit. I seek consistency, not necessarily max speed, that comes later. This takes lots of training and time. I'm really into the theory of driving technique as well and enjoy the videos by Speed Secrets, Driver61, Safeisfast, Kyle Engineers and of course watching JD hotlaps and all the other gang! =)

Great advice. Thanks for sharing. I tried no assists a couple times but never made it past the first or second lap so I gave up. I can see I'm too reliant on assists now, so I need to bit the bullet and go cold turkey and just drive. As you say, it's the only way I'll improve.
@ACRRaven7 жыл бұрын
Nice vid JD... didn't you race against me on F1 2011 custom races and thought I was hacking at first??? :-P Anyways, this is solid advice for people wanting to get faster. You have to always look for drivers that are just a bit quicker then just race them, once you can beat them then go find even faster drivers, and keep doing this cycle until you end up in AOR F1 leagues! ;-)

100% agree. I finally knew the tracks well enough to go online in F1 2018. A week later I went back to my career mode and had to up the AI by 10. To put that into perspective I went from AI 95 to 105. Plus I now crash heaps less requiring fewer flashbacks.
@bramabull1115 жыл бұрын
I tried to go up from 90 to 101 difficulty and turn off assists. I am close but I am losing a tenth each turn and always have one turn each track where i lose whole seconds. Ive tried to focus on those corners but I feel like my understanding of gear shifting is costing me the time I am putting in to get better. I can tell its mostly my shifting where i lose the car entirely or have to regain tractiin and lose my lap. Ive recently got thoroughly addicted to the f1 games but i get so disheartened and dont even want to turn on the console at the difficultt i am at now. As its not fun to win every time on 90 difficulty. How do i learn better shifting and how to dissect each problematic turn? Ive been using flashbacks to lock in corners but ive hit a cieling.

The best way to improve is just... playing and that's all, You won't be Lewis Hamilton in a week, even in a game, cause he's driving for like a 20 years, practice makes perfect, You just need to turn off Your assists, racing line etc and You'll learn how to drive unless You're really, really bad, but I doubt it that someone is that bad, I was playing with a wheel for like a few months and after these months I'm not the best, but I'm making pretty big progress, I mean that now I CAN actually drive because of practice not because of any "fast way"

@topikekonen57137 жыл бұрын
Thanks a lot for the video! I was actually pretty casual about F1 before I saw your videos and they really got me into trying to compete with others and improve. I didn't even make my own setups yet. I turned off my assists a few days ago and I agree with you in the regard that controlling the car becomes secondary. What I tried to improve is look at setup videos from you and other players and watch their laps and tried to beat those times. Today I used Leigh's setup on Silverstone and tried to beat his 1:26.6. You know what I could achieve? A fucking 1:28 flat. A long way to go lmao It's still super hard for me sadly but I hope I can get on top of it. :) Oh and to your advice with the online races: I often find myself trying them and then fucking right back off to TT mode since there is always the odd guy who purposefully keeps his foot on the throttle to fuck you up into a hairpin. But I see your point. Your videos are awesome keep it up.
@JDisLimitless7 жыл бұрын
No worries man and thanks for the comment! As I said, it takes time and you'll be amazed at what you can do in a few weeks time. And agreed, online can be incredibly frustrating, but it's helped me so much more than TT in terms of racecraft and coping with pressure in some situations!

I'm interested in the fact that almost everyone is using T-cam instead of cockpit. Don't you want it to be a more realistic experience? As close as it gets to the real thing?
@dll_charles65897 жыл бұрын
For me the T-Cam is also a driving assist in a way. If you practise enough you‘ll be as quick as T-Cam drivers. Of course it is not as easy but it is more realistic and for me also more fun.
@IyanHarm7 жыл бұрын
I agree! And do you leave the cockpit cam settings in default? I saw some videos with people tweaking it, but I'm not sure about that. I think the default is good right?

IyanHarm I you costumized settings to see the mirrors. It is quit difficult to see anything in the mirrors with standard settings exspecially with the Mercedes.
@Hyperzz13376 жыл бұрын
FGL_Charlie very old topic, but i have to point out something. Some people do not want realism, they want to be competetive, so they dont care about cockpit cam being realistic, they make it easier by using Tcam.
