Amazing video. The only video if you ask me that addresses the first and major problem for wannabe digital artists, where to start, there is houdini and nuke which is industry standard, there is zbrush, there is maya, there is redshift, now unreal is getting ahead, you watch so many cgi car chase videos made in so many softwares, and are confused what to learn. This video nails the coffin of confusion. BLENDER! the software has come so far, and you can learn everything there, animation, sculpting, cloth simulation, effects, liquids simulations, everything in one spot, then you can shift to softwares that are specifically designed for each process. You can then model and design characters in zbrush, add effects in houdini, animate models in blender/maya, render your scene in unreal then composite on nuke or fusion with real footage. But before ALL this, you learn each of these basics at one spot which is blender. Amazing work my man!

Although you are very clear I think your Scandinavian laid-backless to your voice may cause some issues here and there. Don't go crazy though, you don't need to become someone else but maybe get some more levels to it. Higher energy moments, quieter more intimate moments that sort of thing. I've subbed. That explosion in the opening tells me that someone still needs to have a course on composting and some Houdini to add some interactive CG for the dirt hits 😂 and for compositing Israel Nuke it Davinci Fusion (I start to really like the latter and that coming from a 16 year long Nuke user).
@BSPStudios5 ай бұрын
Sure, I still got a lot to learn, which is why this video is only about how to start learning VFX
@CallousCoder5 ай бұрын
@@BSPStudios you probably do not have a nuke license but natron is basically a nuke clone (nuke without 3D compositing). And of course Davinci Fusion is also a node based compositor. Node based compositors allow a far more organized (and reusable) way to composite shots compared to AE. AE is great for motion graphics but large composites really becomes a headache. And Nuke is the defacto standard compositor, so if you’d go into VFX professionally understanding node based compositors is a definite headache start. Good luck in your VFX quest! Coming form a former professional VFX artist (compositor, technical director)
@BSPStudios5 ай бұрын
Yeah, I see the advantages of Nuke and also definitely want to test it in the future. But for now I'm sticking with AE, as I don't fully agree that AE is only good for motion graphics
@CallousCoder5 ай бұрын
@@BSPStudios oh you can achieve pretty much anything compositing wise in AE as well. The problem is that soon you have many nested comps and then finding where something is can become challenging. And when you have a similar shot it’s hard to exchange the source footage. With nuke, natron Or Davinci you just point to the different footage and it all works. Which can increase your efficiency. Also using OpenEXR out of the box (perhaps AE by now supports that too, you used to need to have a plugin) and route the channels is really powerful and clean. But for small comps with few render layers AE does fine too.
@BSPStudios5 ай бұрын
I totally agree, if you have big comps with a lot of pre comps in it, everything can become really messy and hard to keep track of. OpenEXR has now native support though

Depends what you want to make. Blender is a no brainer if you are starting out, and can be a great hub for your projects even in various professional work. You only need software that's capable for what you're making. If your project is heavy on compositing with explosions then I'd recommend using a node based compositor like Nuke/Fusion. If you need highly realistic or bespoke simulations you may need to use Houdini or paid Blender addons.

AE does it automatically, so you have less control and the results might be worse. But it's also easier. Blender has the better tracker, so you could search for a tracking tutorial online. @BSPStudios9 ай бұрын
Fusion doesn't has as many features as After Effects and nuke but a lot of 3D artists are still using it. So if you want to use it for composting your 3D renders its a great choice, if you want to do entire shots(like the portal in the intro) a compositing software would be better
@akyhne5 ай бұрын
Any professional VFX artist or compositor I've asked, will give the opposite reply. Fusion can do almost anything, Nuke can do and is far superior to After Effects. AE is only strong and better for motion graphics. AE has a 2.5 D engine, while the others have a true 3D engine.
