Dark Shadow Storm I agree. Until they start pushing accepting how they are and shamming people because they can’t take a hint of constructive criticism on how it’s not healthy. That’s when others need to intervene because this is an issue that people need to work on. If it be laziness or not having even a minimal sign of a backbone to take even a little advice something needs to change.

I'm honestly of the opinion that obesity needs to be dealt with as seriously as other eating disorders like anorexia and bulimia, because the long term effects of it are just as serious. We wouldn't sit and encourage someone with anorexia to continue starving themselves just because them fighting such a disease is difficult and goes against what their emotions are encouraging. One of my cousins had severe anorexia in her teens, and in the end, doctors got her into a residential program that helped her to get well and taught her all kinds of strategies to prevent her symptoms from recurring, not least was teaching cookery with an actual nutritionist. Some of those who are morbidly obese, particularly children who are measuring as morbidly obese, need something similar, that takes them out of the situation where their disease has manifested and puts them in an environment where they have a multidisciplinary team of therapists, nutritionists and doctors to be able to help them help themselves and then gradually move them back towards a non supported living environment so they don't risk relapsing. I have one friend who is morbidly obese, whose three children are also morbidly obese, and she gets upset any time a doctor so much as mentions her weight, and gets very upset if anyone dares to suggest her children and herself aren't healthy, even if they have a myriad of diet related health issues that mean she spends half her time making doctor's appointments or going to see specialists. The fat acceptance movement is slowly but surely killing her and her family, because it allows her to pretend that they can be healthy at their size, and allows her to prioritize her hurt feelings at having her weight mentioned in any way that she could ever interpret as negative. That's why it needs to be stopped, because not only are her family slowly killing themselves with food, but whilst they are doing so, they like the near quarter of the population here who are obese are costing our healthcare system billions, and people like myself who look after our bodies and are almost never ill are the ones who are paying for their care.

Exactly! I am 29 and recently came across a shirt from when I was 3 and another from when I was about 6 and both fit me. I regret my parents not doing more to help me when I was in women's petites by age 8. If I hadn't put my health into my own hands I would still be fat. I weigh 142 now and have't weighed that since elementary school. By the time I was 12 I was already 180 and I only remember that because I lied to kids at school that I was 150.

@@mmmmmhotdogs7804 Oh, that hit me. I remember being 120 in 6th grade, and I was at around 150 in high school. At my heaviest, I was 172 in 2017, went down to 140s, then went back up in the pandemic. I made it a New Years resolution to get down to a healthy BMI by my birthday. I am now down to 130, and it still sends me into a culture shock that I can fit a small, sometimes XS. I was so used to fitting XL, being told I would grow into it, only for it to lead into obesity, and eventually an eating disorder due to my low self confidence. I’m so glad I got a grip on my health so I can live out my 20s with new perspective!!!

If you are talking about binge eating, then sure. But I'm confused as to why someone would assume anyone with a large body is somehow killing themselves. They could be eating a healthy amount of healthy food and your assumption would be both harmful and wrong.
@HeaftyBlast
@HeaftyBlast 4 жыл бұрын
@@gandalfthegrey not really, being overweight is straining your body. also if a bigger person would be eating healthy food of any quantity, they would lose weight quite fast even without doing exercise. processed food and sugar is the problem and if an overweight person would just cut all sugar, they would see almost instant results. i am not overweight but i had some to lose and i tried cutting as much sugar as possible and i lost close to 20 pounds within a month with doing 3x 1h at the gym per week. the only reason i didn't totally cut all sugar is because i have type 1 diabetes and i need some sugar in my diet, even more if i exercise.

Yes. My ex is basically borderline anorexic (for men). He works out like a fiend, barely eats (the fridge in his apartment is almost always nearly empty)...yet he claims he still needs to lose weight! He's way skinnier than me (I'm around 140-something), which I've been told is often dangerous for men in their 30's. A few of my friends and I are concerned for his health and have tried to talk to him about it...but he just clams up and brushes us off. And he's miserable mood wise. I'm concerned he may have depression. We were both miserable toward the end of our relationship, part of why we broke up.

That's just not right. It's not good promotion. It's not normal. Stop treating it as if it's a sexual orientation, race or a gender. Stop promoting it. And I'm not talking about body positivity, I'm talking about when overweight people normalizing being obese. Body positivity is different. I also hate when they associate themselves w/ being curvy. Being curvy and being overweight are different. But they just associate 'curvy' and 'overweight' w/ each other because deep inside they don't actually love their bodies and they are insecure and saying they are "curvy" makes them feel better about themselves.

Similarly with obese people, saying I love and accept the way I'm built is great, but I don't think that necessarily means accepting being an overeater or being obese, because no one is born with bulimia or born with obesity yknow

@@sukindiamuzik Their weight is a symptom, not the cause. If people want to accept their appearance, that's fine. However, if you're saying "I accept being obese", you're also accepting a bunch of health issues. That's the same thing with sickly thin and anorexic people. Let's not pretend that being super thin or being really overweight comes naturally. It comes from the type of lifestyle you live. Even though their mental health and their lifestyle is unhealthy, physically being in the state of morbid obesity or being really thin is just as unhealthy as the habit itself and causes death. That's why when you're in any of those states, you need to quickly get back in shape because it kills.

To me being fat can be around being chubby or too chubby and it's not too bad to work off the calories as long as your body is in well-health. Obesity, to me, is a huge health concern and I'm thinking 200-300+ lbs (depends on height and gender), it should not be accepted but shouldn't be mocked either, it should be dealt with in an appropriate manner and encouraged to be fixed. Being Obese is proven to significantly shorten one's lifespan and dramatically decrease quality of life, those who sell clothes or food and encourage such a lifestyle is scummy.

@@QuackZack being "fat" or "chubby" is never "healthy". The healthy body fat percentage for men lies between 8% - 19%, and for women its around 21% - 33%. For a man at 19%, there is actually a decent amount of muscle definition, and even an outline of some abdominals is visible. When I was at 8% bodyfat, I had visible veins on top of my abdominals. Women's bodyfat percentages are skewed higher, because of breasts, as well as natural, firm layer of fat under their skin, and extra fat on the buttocks and legs. These bodyfat percentages are not high, and nowhere near what people consider "chubby" or "fat". The reason carrying extra fat weight is bad for you is the fact that your body has to supply blood to it, as well as the fact that any harmful substances, byproducts, metabolites, and toxins you don't excrete get stored in this fat, which then has the potential to enter your bloodstream. Some of the excess bodyfat also gets stored around your organs and causes damage. If you are overweight, at all, you are not your healthiest self. It is wrong to promote any image other than an ideal of health. Otherwise, you are deceiving people into thinking "well I'm not THAT fat, I'm just chuby, so I'm healthy" even though they can't run 1 mile without puking. Human beings have the genetics, bone, joint, tendon and muscle structure to be the greatest endurance runners in the entire animal kingdom. Many tribal cultures to this day hunt by running down their prey until it collapses from exhaustion. Humans are the best endurance runners on the planet, yet nobody would know it just by looking at the average middle class american. To have that potential, and claim its healthy to be "chubby" and incapable of running even a couple miles, is absolutely false. Don't bully obese people, fat people, chubby people, or whatever you want to call them. But never call it healthy, because it absolutely isn't.

Going by measurements is more accurate. Just saying. Yes, you can be fat without carbs. Even if your body is in a perfect state of ketosis, eating 20,000 calories a day will make you fat if you're not exercising like an athlete. I’m gonna be honest about something Rich. I’ve kept up with your content for a long time and I remember when you used to have video game footage over what you were saying. Then I just kinda fell out and watched a video of yours about a year and a half ago. I couldn’t bring myself to actually watch the vid. For a while just seeing you in the shape you were in horrified me for you. When I saw you around mid last year and I checked out one of your vids again, I was thoroughly impressed. You’ve come such a long way and even became an inspiration for me to keep working at it. I love how you always speak your mind and tell it like it is. Cause you’re right, being that way isn’t healthy at all. It’s a disease and should be treated as such. People shouldn’t be judged or made fun of for it. But they definitely shouldn’t be coddled and praised either. Thank you for speaking the truth on this touchy subject. I think you’re the best person to do so. I’ve struggled with weight and body issues all throughout adolescence and although I’ve never been “fat” I definitely didn’t like myself. Then I started actually getting some exercise (which was just simply walking and running) and I had a major difference. Two years ago I fell on pretty hard times and ended up depressed and let myself go. Since then I’ve been working to get back to being happy and healthy again. It’s not easy, but as long as I keep going, it’ll happen. To anyone else dealing with things like this, please know that you’re not a horrible person and should never be made to feel that way. But life is meant to be lived, enjoyed, and shared with loved ones. Anything that will take away from the value of your life, is of no value at all. And always remember. You’re stronger than you think you are. Even if it’s just a simple walk and some lighter eating, baby steps. Just don’t listen to that voice in your head that says to give up. It’s a liar because you’ll get there. I promise.

MrNuts70 - not at all. I’m down to BMI of 25.1 almost there. My goal is to reach BMI close to 20 but right now the risk of obesity and overweight are gone. I’m eating 1,000 calories per day and losing about 1 pound per week. If I continue like these, it will take me about 7 months to finally reach BMI of 20. I was almost 300 pounds when I started and I’m down to 170 pounds. The goal is to reach 135 pounds as a final weight but we’ll see as reaching 169 will put me in a normal BMI of 24.95

Rich you NEED to keep talking about this! Im a fan from way back, I have lost over 100 pounds myself. The fat acceptance community really concern me. I have morbidly obese family members who keep getting bigger... their health is suffering, but the FA nonsense has seeped into ether and has given them excuses and false rationalisations as to why it is “okay or healthy to be fat” or that it “cannot be changed”. Why is nobody speaking out? Why? I worry... I stress. The FA community is trying to tack itself to more legitimate social justice causes and nobody is speaking out for fear of being attacked. Fast forward two and half years, we moved to Texas and discovered intermittent fasting and I'm down to 195 and I'm not sure what my max distance is now. I can do 60 miles without too much effort. As you lose weight it compels, or at least it did for me, to see just what I can do now that I weigh less. As of last June I reversed type 2 diabetes, that took me ten months to reverse 10 years worth of bad choices. For the last year I have been biking/ triking everywhere because I lost that weight and gained substantial stamina. I ride about 100 miles a week now. Keep going Rich, it only gets better from here on out. It's not only good for your body, but your mind as well. Exercise helps preserve grey matter in our brains, body and mind. To be fair in this instance I think it's really just a business serving a market. Can't really blame them for that. Now the fact that their is a market for them is what we need to focus on fixing. How, I have no idea tbh.

Retail goes where the money is. Obesity rates rise even further, people get even bigger, sizes go up to compensate.

I had my own fat acceptance scenario. I justified being obese by saying it was my age and everybody puts on weight in middle age. Then I woke up and did something about it. I did the 5:2 diet (eat normally 5 days, fast 2 days a week) and lost over 60 lb over several years. Then I discovered the whole-food plant-based lifestyle and I now eat as much as I want, and maintain a very healthy weight. I have no desire to eat the rubbish I used to eat. Nowadays my good food tastes better as my sense of taste improves. Anyone can shed the pounds if they put their mind to it. It is not so much dieting (which from experience I know doesn’t work - you end up see-sawing and gaining even more weight) as lifestyle change. Thank you for sharing your story and raising awareness of the dangerous trend to acceptance that morbid obesity is OK. It is NOT.

Rich I was very overweight until about 12 years ago, around 320 lb, and my family actually pushed this kind of garbage on me back then. They would constantly tell me things like "oh you're just chubby" or "It's ok to be a little big" and this would actually help to DISCOURAGE me from losing weight. What finally did it was when I went up a flight of stairs and had to lay down because I couldn't breathe and felt like my chest was going to explode, I was only 25 years old and had a 6 month old daughter! It scared me and thankfully I was able to lose a little over 100 lbs but this type of thing infuriates me. If people are told that this type of lifestyle is ok then they will be less likely to get healthy and that is such a shame, it's a waste of life. On a brighter note, I'm so happy to see you getting healthy! Keep at it Rich, I know how hard it can be to lose weight and keep it off but it is SO WORTH IT! Love your channel and your videos, god bless man.

@@vorenge No problem, I try to help encourage people that are struggling with their weight to get in shape if I can. It's hard to do especially when you're not motivated.

Thankfully I am not overweight, but if I were, I think my breaking point to change would be when I looked down and couldn't see my own wiener.

seeing, this, just wanted to leave a comment saying well done and keep at it, too many people go through this kind of journey without getting the level of support they deserve for what is a really hard battle. I only lost 40 pounds, and that was hard, losing so much more is an amazing achievement
