Another cool video. I ticked them both off during lockdown easing last year and hardly saw a soul all day. Think I had Holme fell virtually to myself that day. Would love to do it again.

Fantastic walk and views so sad re Tarn Hows remember it like your previous photo showing it surrounded by trees hopefully they will re plant but will take years unfortunately

Fantastic video Graham, thanks for sharing. Those views from Black Crag are spectacular. We were last at Tarn Hows in May 2021 and were saddened to read that the larches there had Ramoren disease, which is highly contagious. The Forestry Commission and FERA (the Food and Environment Research Agency) were working with the owners to clear thousands of trees, both infected and not, to try to contain it and stop it spreading. Many of the rhododendron had to be removed also. There were notices everywhere appealing to the visitors to wash boots and bike tyres before visiting other forests/woodlands/gardens or the disease could, unfortunately, be taken elsewhere. Really really sad. Tarn Hows has always been one of my favourite places, even from childhood, but it has a totally different energy now. So, I’m extra sorry to see from your footage that the storms have devastated it further. Anyway, loved to see you all out there. You really were blessed with amazing weather and views. Wow, I didn't know any of that, they really are fighting battles on many levels at Tarn How's by the sound of it. I am hearing everywhere that different tree and scrub diseases are a constant battle. In my own garden we had a lovely hedge stripped bear by box moth. Ash trees destroyed by disease locally and Dutch Elm still an issue. Very grim. Hmmm, supposed to be doing Black Crag with the family on Sunday or Monday (we are overnighting) but will not be getting weather like that, both days forecasting rain all day, just got to decide which day will be the least awful. I was shocked as well seeing Tarn Hows like that as I was there twice last year before the storms and really enjoyed each visit, such a shame to see so much devastation, still, a good video made, cheers Alan

Shame the forecast is grim for your overnighter, as I bet the sky at night would be a bit special from there. Fingers crossed for a change in the forecast. Tarn How's was a real shock even more than what comes across on the video. I am sure the NT will do something sharpish with Potters favourite place on Earth. Cheers Alan

Great video as always Graham. That was indeed quite shocking to see the damage at Tarn Howes :-( I was at Finsthwaite Heights a few months ago and it had suffered a lot too. Very sad. Holme fell / Tarn Howes were some of the first places I visited in the Lakes so lovely memories. Thanks for the video. I’m working my way through the Outlying Fells now so your Outlying videos are getting watched again!

You wouldn't want to get caught up there in that storm that flattened the trees, it would of quickly become a survival situation .

It was like a hurricane had ripped though it, it was the same in Northumberland any tree with a week root system was taken. Beatrix Potter would have cried for weeks seeing her favourite place and walk destroyed. I am sure the NT will return it to its former glory but it will.take many years. If anyone was about to witness it happening I bet it was frightening.
