I mean you should hear about the rockets and mortars they were using stuffed with flechette rounds. It may not sound dangerous but when you got a dart travel in that subsonic if not supersonic speeds one of those darts could easily penetrate through through a few millimetres of metal much less the human body

The .50 cal spotting rifle isn't as insane as it sounds because of the size of the round it's weight and propellant can be tweaked to match the ballistics of the main armament making it a very accurate way of sighting in your gun. Modern tanks use a similar device for a cheaper alternative to live fire training. The device is loaded into the tanks main gun and fires through the barrel meaning the commander and gunner can operate it with all the same controls as if firing tank rounds but using far cheaper ammunition and not wearing out their gun barrel.

Well...no matter...Ontos is nuts and so is Fat Electrician, so the reaction is gonna be fun too...and the worst case scenario is that I already saw sometime.😜😂 P.S. The closest translation in Greek for Ontos that is applicable is "thing"...so it is literally named The Thing, but in Greek. 💯

The back blast issue might be danger to troops around the tank or maybe men responsible for reloading that the only thing I can think of

For construction we’d use these for dragging junk (or rarely, filled water tanks) over rough and loose ground. Basically the same way we use a D50 tractor from the 40’s with blown hydraulics (ex: not worth repairing). Basically think of it as self propelled & movable heavy weight (so you can use it as ballast for a crane), low ground loading vehicle (by being low in weight compared to the amount of track in contact with the ground you gain the ability to drive over mud and sand), and most importantly - you get all of that cheaply :)

Not really, it worked as intended and historically the marines are almost always low on funds vs the rest of the military branches so having such a cheap and realiable vehicle that the marines themselves loved is a godsend.

5:02 The army agreed for a hot minute, there. Getting *out* of a tank to reload it? Bad time. Then they bulk purchased the M2 Bradley. Which has a missile launcher that you have to reload, by *getting out of it.* "Merr, they have a big gun on the inside, merr." A weapon that a peer nation quality tank would sniff at, yes. The missile launcher is the most powerful AT weapon on the Bradley, so shush.
