See, I think that kind of comedy is sort of a hit and miss with people. I may be wrong here but personally that's one of the reasons I can't watch Rick and Morty, everyone is a hypocrite AND an asshole. Helluva boss managed to balance it's characters out pretty nicely.

This is the main mistake whenever someone decides to use swear words for jokes. It's too easy to do. In fact so easy to do that it loses whatever effect it might have to offend the audience that it ends up having no effect whatsoever because they've heard those words so many times that they become null to it. What matters is executing said words, and they effectively can be used for a particular scene.

These are valid criticisms. People need to understand that this isn't meant to be objective and directly say "vivzie is a terrible story writer and here's why with Helluva Boss'. It's a nice and genuine say to nudge the series and say "you're doing great, but a little more would be appreciated". I can see why the pacing and most of the jokes don't land, but we have to remember that this takes place in hell and the point is that most of them aren't really trying to be funny. It's just having them say stuff to say it cause they're from a place that solicits that. The episode lengths are actually pretty understandable, since most animated webcomic-style shows try to smash all of this information into ten minutes or less to save time and money. And I'm glad the most recent episode was around 25 minutes, so we could actually get the whole beginning, rising action, climax, falling action and resolution you expect from a story.

I kinda hate episode 5 because of how frustrating Moxie was with the fights. He wasted so much time and had so many opportunities to at least harm the Rattlesnake that it just pissed me off continuously. Same with Blitz. The moment Moxie pulled out a gun with the realization that he was armed the whole time that he was being strangled was angering and the rest of the episode just got worse.

Tbh I am waiting for an episode or some sorta fun story where Blitzo and Moxxie get stuck somewhere and gotta help each other so they don’t die while Loona and Millie do something as they wait. Also an episode with less Moxxie harm, it was funny at first because Richard is a big YES and it was just good violence- but now it just feels cynical and slightly tasteless the more he gets tortured and treated like a dumbass.

I'm really rooting for Moxxie to kill that creep in a future episode He keeps getting neutered in terms of what he brings to the table for I.M.P., I'd like to see what he can actually do eventually when the chips are down. I'm hoping that his strength is that he's the best marksman of the team; -Millie's strong at melee combat, but inaccurate at range -Moxxie can be the most accurate/fastest shot, but is weak at hand-to-hand -Blitzo is balanced and is the strategist/mastermind behind their assassination plots -Loona is the "lure" to get the target exposed, the wildcard and the last resort they call on in emergencies

I loved CHERUB but I can see why not many like it. The plotholes and poorly explained things suck but the humour was simple and to the point, like a looney tunes episode. I didnt like episode 3 that much because of its strange pacing and Loonas characterization not being bery believeable and was worried Blitzo was getting flanderized(now I can see he wasnt, he was just too focused on winning, wich is somethingon him I find interesting), so seeing a lighthearted episode that wasnt trying to make character drama where it could grow was just what I wanted. I think this lighthearted episode was necessary for the show so that it could jump to its more horror side (with Strikers fight with Moxxie), as well as its more story driven side.

Have Blitzo be crushed by Loopty so Moxie has to hear him out instead. Boom already 10 times more sensible pacing and plot holes patched.

I think Vivziepop is having a problem George Lucas had when writing the original trilogy. As a writer Vivziepop is getting a little to "in" to her own story, she has all these ideas rushing around in her head and she wants them all on the screen but it is starting to get too full for the shows own good. George Lucas had the same problem with a bunch of crazy albeit creative idea but having them all would have been a convoluted mess, luckily for him he had other writers that helped him trim the fat and get his vision more into focus. I just hope she has the same kind of set up or this might end poorly which would be a damn shame.

That’s needed with so many stories. Like Kubrick for example really needed collaborative help. He literally abused Shelly Duvall and it shows that abusing an actress doesn’t actually improve anything, because her performance is pretty weak. I blame Kubrick in entirety for that. Not to mention the other messy stuff like his 80s movies and 2001: A Space Odyssey which are his weakest films, which are the movies where he has the most creative control.

Ep. 4 is unique in that because it gives us glimpses into how heaven works (or rather, DOESN'T work) it damages the entire premise of Hazbin Hotel, which is already suffering from development hell stagnation. The business characters in ep. 4 were just stupid, I didn't like them lol. It had some great moments and the cherubs were cute but overall it was the weakest episode so far.

Not a lot of shows can pull off stuff like this. Of course now that some cartoons are getting progressive it opens up a can of worms (fandom) and that really (most of the time) ruin someone's experience as a fan of something they genuinely like. I'm glad you made this video. It really needs to be said. Overall the show is great. Not too many glaring issues, mostly animated ones.

Episode 4 could've used a post episode scene like episode 5, Just cut out the whole mall Santa section, It makes no sense and the jokes are so bad I'm reminded that these are supposed to be caricatures, Which is makes everything after it feel completely devoid of stakes and humour. Instead use this run time to introduce Octavia, And yes I said introduce Octavia, Episode 2 completely breaks what little narrative flow they've got going in episodes 1, 3 and 4 and would be much better as a self contained arch that's also the setup to episode 5. All the ingredients are there, But microwaving a tomato is just gonna make a mess instead of a nice soup base. Edit: also at the start of Episode 4 have Blitzo be crushed so Moxie has to make the deal instead. You only would need to change 1 joke.

So here's the thing, Stolas did just call Blitzo to protect him to thirst over him. We know Stolas cant die without a certain weapon and can easily defend himself which shows a lot about his character, ( Can't really defend on why they tried to kill Stolas as he is royalty but maybe that's something only certain demons know about?) But anyways, it show's how selfish he really is. He knows Blitzo at the very least is uncomfortable as he's expressed many time he is not only insecure about their relationship but he dislikes the comments Stolas make's towards him. After all the two are only sleeping together so he can get the book for his business which from Striker's comments seem to be rare for an imp. Stolas doesn't seem to realize the damage he's doing. In a trailer shot he is alone at his dinner table with no Octavia or his wife. He's ruined his daughters life and even with the improvement they made in episode two he's still horny as fuck for Blitzo which again is the main reason his marriage fell apart which caused his relationship with his daughter to fall apart. As for Blitzo, he probably did consider taking Strikers offer, we know he's an imp which is the lowest of low in hell and his sister is possibly still in rehab not to mention his relationship with Stolas. Who he even may find comfort in when they do see eachother that time of month because we know how lonely he is. Plus his own daughter treats him as an annoying co-worker more than a Dad. I agree with many of the things you said so I just thought I'd put my thoughts.

One way to rectify this would be if Stolas had simply either hired his own would-be assassins or hired actors to pretend to be assassins just so he’d have a “reason” to hire Blitzø as a bodyguard in the first place. Though another problem is that Blitz does the same things that Stolas does to him to his employees.

I am pretty sure that the fact has been established in the other show that Vizie has made, the show doesn't try to shove every single information down the viewer's throats. You have to actually think and connect some information together. Or perhaps that Helluva boss is its own show and Hazbin Hotel is also a separate show that people just ignore the fact that it is in the same universe thus pointing out plot holes and some flaws that has been addressed by that other show? Anyway, it has been suggested plenty of times that in Hell, demons cannot be killed through conventional means. Although subtle, it can be inferred plenty of times in Hazbin Hotel. They can be killed but they'll revive, it isn't explained how but that explains the overpopulation problem that Charlie is trying to tackle. Where instead of being purged by angelic weapons that permanently kill sinners and demons to then become the living foundation of hell's building blocks, they ascend to heaven by being reformed. The information about dead demons becoming building materials isn't explained in the show but through questions answered by the Creators so, you kind of have to get your hands dirty a bit to get this fact. Yes, hell is made of dead demons, even the rooms and furniture they live with are made of dead demons, although some of the material are probably imported from the human world Stolas wanted to spend quality time with his daughter, to do that he cannot die or be distracted by assassins, or hitmans, or demons being demons. How would you bond with your daughter if you spend half of your attention into making sure the area is safe and having to kill demons? Some of the flaws mentioned by this video isn't really a flaw, it's just that not a lot of research or proper research has been done

Honestly I feel about the same way about Helluva Boss and I love that you brought up how it's storytelling will affect Hazbin Hotel's storytelling quality. They have to do it PERFECTLY in order to be able to make it feel like the main series instead of being outclassed by it's DLC counterpart. To be honest, I'm hoping that there'll be an actual crossover for Hazbin and Helluva Boss in a sort of 'we're trying to make room in hell and you guys are bringing more people down here' type of episode. Who knows, maybe they'll knock it out of the park and Hazbin will be 3 times better.

I love this show and I am very dedicated to it. I'm actually glad I agree with almost all of your points, and that we both saw the same issues in Helluva Boss. Episode 4 sucked ass. Loona is furry baiting. The show shoves too much shit in its short runtimes because it has more concepts than the budget can handle. The show is over the top vulgar and it can work just fine or even better without cussing all the time (although they all live in hell so cursing all the time must be the standard for hell citizens).

My biggest issue with the show is Blitzo. Like, I know his entire character is supposed to be that he's an asshole, but that just doesn't appeal to me. He also doesn't get his ass kicked enough to balance it out for me. I also don't like how Moxxie is just a bog standard portrayal of the 'but monkey' trope. It's funny because I like almost all the characters except Blitzo himself, which is a shame since he seems to be pretty much the protagonist. Also, I find it ironic the best episode of the show so far, Episode 2, is the one that completely abandons the core premise of the show. Episode 3 was cool though I guess.

I, on the exact opposite, think that he isn't enough of an asshole like his profession would've implied. I'd have liked it more if Blitzo's character was similar to Striker instead. This series feels like its all of the storyline episodes in an episodic show. Like, out of all of the episodes currently out (up to S2E5), only 3 feel like it would qualify as a “standard” episode (the pilot, S1E1, and S2E5). Every other episode is either focused on plot progression or character development, or it’s a special version of the “kill people in the human world” plot (going against angels, getting captured by humans, etc). Like, I get it, you can only make so many episodes independently, so making episodes that _do_ things over episodic ones seem better. But you can’t underestimate how those types of episodes help a show. They can show the characters be themselves when their doing their regular thing. If something special happens every time we see these characters, it’s gets hard to get a consistent read on them.

As someone who loves this show, I loved watching you critique it! It was really refreshing to hear someone talk about some of the poorer parts of the series in a decent manner. Helluva Boss is definitely one of my favorite shows at the moment, but there is a couple things I didn't like as much. I do enjoy the idea of the story, but I feel like they went through it a bit too quickly. after the pilot and the first couple of episodes I was hoping for a series where they would alternate between story-driven episodes and episodes of the I.M.P crew doing their job of human-hunting. Instead they seem to mostly try to do both in a single episode, or kind of forgets about the whole killing humans part to focus on story, plot, and hell-building. Which isn't bad, but it goes through everything so quickly that sometimes it just feels a tad sour. With it being so focused on development and story it feels like we don't get to see as much of the characters just chilling and doing normal stuff when everything is advancing so quickly. Like, the ending of episode six had Stolas and Blitz getting very romantic, people were hopeful that their relationship might be getting better. Then episode seven put a halt to that almost immediately. I do love that episode, and I love that they pointed out the flaws in their relationship, but it just happened so quickly, we really didn't get a break. I understand though, it's webseries and not an actual cartoon, but still. Overall, as I said loved your criticism, it was super nice to hear someone talk about the flaws for once and also not just shit on it. Very enjoyable and helped me view the show a little better

I personally think (or want to beliece idk) that considering how it's/it gets established that stolas genuinely enjoy being with blitz and can be really selfish (even if by accident) it wouldn't be far off to think that he'd just hire blitz for the fun of it. That episode works so much better as an episode 4, Because not only are the first 3 episodes building up the human world shenanigans much more naturally that way, It also allows for Octavia to be introduced the episode before we have to care about her. Which make the episode not only a natural part of the timeline, But also makes the payoff much more satisfying. Because you had time to look forward to something specific. And then episode 5 continues to ride that high and everything feels like a crescendo. But sadly the series is just structured poorly, It's really sad to think about what could've been.

Wasn't the point of Cletus and his coworkers swearing that they were fed up and had been pushed to a breaking point that showed just how pretentious they were? They literally summon weapons before he starts swearing and Collin looks put off by him calling their target a shitty old man. And his wife literally also calls sinners "shitty dead people" which furthers they idea that there was no actual compassion for people, even before Millie sets her off by calling her out on her hypocrisy. The only one who doesn't swear is Collin, who is the whipping boy and was following their example. Between that and Deerie's condescending method of firing the three, the point was obviously that heaven's not the objectively good place that it's made out to be. The tv commercial also did a good job foreshadowing that and it actually makes makes my brain cycle back to Hazbin, since I have to question if heaven would even humor a redeemed demon. And that's not to say there were no flaws or oddities in the episode, I just didn't find that to be one of them.

Well, remember, when people say comedy is subjective, that is a misstatement. What makes *You Laugh* is subjective. But what makes a well-constructed and delivered joke, is more objective. For instance, I have laughed at many jokes (particularly memes) that were awful, but I just found them personally funny, something like "Your Mom snorted Ann Franks ashes gayboy ha!". That is objectively not very creatively written, original, and even good delivery could probably only make it objectively subpar. And remember, you might not even find good jokes to be funny by the same token, and that's fine. Some people love Adam Sandler's worst films, and that's fine, even if most of the jokes are all generic and rely on pure gross-out shock value. Others don't like Mont Python, seven if they are mostly well written with good delivered and are original. That's fine. But Monty Python's work usually has Objectively better-crafted jokes than something like Jack and Jill. But whatever makes you laugh is just what makes you laugh. Same thought. I've been a viv fan for nearly 5 years now and was always a big fan for the hazbin project. Ever since the helluva boss pilot was released though, I think I have fallen out of the hazbin fanbase, just a little bit. Helluva boss is indeed more cleaner and the plot is easier to grasp compared to hazbin. The pilot for helluva was also pretty nice and it wasn't all over the place. I do understand that this project is taking a long of time since it'll be on tv, but that's also one of my main worries about the show. I genuinely worry that this show will lose hype by the time it gets onto tv, which could lead to low viewing rates and ultimately be the downfall of this project.

And it would also be assuming that episode one was their first mission, which it's implied not to be. Assassins with standards isn't a new trope in any media.

Helluva me is ok to me, in terms of how I turn my brain off watching it and don't think deep about it. The show never gave me a good laugh, maybe a scoff here and there and I'm not being a high and mighty comedy prude but I just don't find the jokes funny in this comedy show. Viv is a creative person, but in the writing department ja not so much. Brandon's crude humor works for the most part in his own short video content but it becomes so graining in helluva when that same crude humor goes on for 14 plus minutes.

I see what you mean, the world isn't consistent enough with the idea that they are in hell and the over frequency of sex terms and awkward dialogue makes the show barely feel like its an actual story set in hell. Honestly its like episode 9 of Naruto abridged where they are just saying cuss words as a means to fill in the gap when all it does is focus on how void of creativity the material actually is.

@@yulee3266 Yes but if its too lenient on some sins over the others that make up hell it just seems to favor some sins (like lust) rather than be consistent with the overall setting of hell which includes all the sins in their respective manner. The thing I hate about most animations is they have the characters and chemistry its just the world is as generic as cartoon network modern cartoons where its not sculpted enough to gather interest aside from the characters and chemistry.

True but I still enjoy the show either way. Even tho it has its flaws, it’s still pretty great overall. I mean look at Moxie and Millie. They haven’t argued in the show at all, and they seem to be in a perfectly healthy relationship. Most shows have literally any couple they put into the show arguing and getting mad at each other constantly, but seeing those two be happy and calm when they’re together is really wholesome and sweet ❤️

@@alexandramaun7366 Ive never watched AOT, but I’m assuming the fanbase dislikes it’s ending. Still, my comment does have a bit of truth. Theres going to be at least one person who finds something everyone agrees to be good, bad, and vice versa. Still doesn’t validate disliking the video. If you don’t agree, thats fine, you don’t need to dislike a video that was about someone not liking something. Heck, he’s even mentioned that he genuinely liked episode 6, the flaws he mentions are personal, and most of us here don’t mind it, and some of us even like it that way.

I actually don't care about that incident (I don't care about babies and I dislike them), but I can't deny that Luna is probably the least likeable character in the main cast. I get that she is supposed to be like a cool young girl who is disinterested in her father's business, but seeing her being either bored, annoyed or angry about everything is uninteresting. It's kinda important for us to know that she deeply cares about a few things, even if she isn't expressing many emotions most of the time. I need to see her more around characters like the guy she had a crush on to start caring about her.

It's good to have takes like this, I believe you should absolutely be able to find flaws in the things you watch and enjoy otherwise, you're just gonna be upset when people do acknowledge and talk about those flaws and bring about awful fandoms which make it hard to have fun and interacting other people in said fandoms Nothing is perfect, and it's okay to have mixed feelings on things, which is definitely something people are forgetting now a days, you're allowed to sit on the fence and be on a definitive size of "piece of media is great or terrible"

In a world where HB has longer episodes, episode 4 could have just been a pre-title sequence thing. Where they are given the job to kill the old man, he tries to kill himself but is stopped by cherub and then they just shoot him anyway. Then that could create a rivalry with cherub for the episode, or something idk

I love the animation and designs. I love the concepts, but I often find the execution lacking. It's also a little predictable. I like the imps a lot, the couple especially. Owl family is pretty cool. I find Luna pretty dull. I haven't been into _most_ of the music. I'm with you, man. I like the show, don't love it, don't hate it. It definitely has it's highlights and lowlights. I appreciate you making this video, despite the mob of cultists that will come to REEEEE at you.

28:08 I gotta agree with you on this one. In particular, that sniper rifle looked about the size of a handgun when Moxxie was looking at it, and in one scene it's pretty obviously a 2D image drawn flat on and then they used the transform tool to make it the same angle of the case so it just looks flat. The size actually confused me a lot on my first watch cause I thought Striker just had another one out of nowhere and the one Moxxie looked at was still in the case so the fight scene got pretty confusing, but then at the end it was revealed that he DID have another one but it's a revolver and that confused me even more cause I was like "why did the gun just change shape and lose the scope?". None of that would have happened if they could just draw that gun consistently in the first place.

I really like what the show is *trying* to do but wish it would get its shit together before it falls apart entirely. It's so frustrating because I love the look of the world and characters (except human Luna lol that shit is cursed) but I keep feeling disappointed in how everything is executed. I hope they improve things because it would make me very happy if I could answer something better than "Hmmm" when I ask myself if I would recommend the series to others. Other thoughts: Nene tells me you have some great taste right before you praise The Mitchells versus the Machines and give me whiplash. WTF Cartoonshishi. WTF. W.T.F. Oh, your scriptwriting is also steadily improving so great job! I think your flow has improved a lot without spinning your wheels in repetitive negativity. Nice! I do feel like I've noticed a new problem though or rather just one I didn't pick up before; you really should tone down the self-deprecation I think. It gets a bit tiring when you keep talking about how unfunny you are after I laugh at your jokes and edits, not gonna lie. You should have more confidence and not weigh your own script down with doubts that I feel are pretty unnecessary. Peace. I'll dig you up after Twitter buries you.

I'm surprised to see nobody mention the biggest flaw I found in ep 2 which basically ruined the whole episode and Stolas' character for me, it being the fact that Stolas acts like a complete moron. The conflict revolves around Octavia being frustrated with her family falling aparat and Stolas not wanting to lose the relationship he had with his daughter, yet he brings Blitzo along to loo loo land(apparently not out of an actual need for a bodyguard but just cause he wanted to spend time with him??), constantly flirts with him and straight up talks about fucking the guy right next to his very visibly upset daughter, then acts all surprised about it. I'm sorry but what????? I doubt they made him this stupid on purpose, it just reeks of bad character writing. Does anyone maybe interpret this differently? I'm genuinely curious what do u guys think as I saw literally no one bring this up

I was excited for Hazbin when it was coming out but I fell in love with Helluva. Most times I don't have the brains for critiques so I like checking out these kinds of videos. Nice video!
