The look on Benny's face when Kelly says Bowden was more of a father than Benny ever was is so sad. Benny wasn't there for Kelly in the ways that he wanted but he did support him as best he knew how. It is sad Kelly only realised that after it was too late x

Maybe but Kelly has more bad memories with his dad than good. Benny was always put up on a pedestal because he was firefighter legend and that wasn't what Kelly wanted as a kid or teen or an adult, he acknowledges his father IS a good firefighter and man but he's not cut out to be a husband or father. Kelly does know that he tried, but sadly didn't do that well

Until I saw this I thought the rumors about the show killing Benny off were wrong. I mean he may be a recurring character but he's an important part of severide's story. But this scene confirmed it. And the preview next week with the doctor saying someone will need support and sympathy. And the episode 7 description saying Severide faces personal adversity. I'm kinda bummed. I love treat williams and I loved seasons 1, 2 and 4 Benny.

If Benny Severide hadn't granted his son's request to get Gorsch off Boden's back and everyone else's back at Firehouse 51, Boden or someone there would've been pushed to the breaking point. But if Boden's wife asked Commissioner Grissom to get Gorsch out of her husband's firehouse, would Grissom listen to her or not whether she would've been crying in front of him or not?
