Vietnam War: Soul, Gospel, & Funk Records: rateyourmusic.com/list/JBrumm...
The song "Wish You Were Here With Me" (Cap City Records # CC-105) by the Washington D.C. soul group The Fawns, featuring the three sisters Ann, Avis & Mildred Harrell. Also released on the DC label New Frontiers (# NF 4401). It told the story of a woman left on the home front longing for her man "in Vietnam, fighting for your country". Many men are trying to temp her, but she promised to "be true and only love you":
"Your in Vietnam, fighting for your country
Missing your life, oh what a sacrifice
I promise to be true and only love you
Wish you were here with me
To hold me, and kiss me, and love the way you used to do
As you read my letter there is something you must know
Another man I was tempted to go
But a voice from within wouldn't let me give in...
Wish you were here with me...
I'm a lonely girl, boys won't let me be
They keep reminding me that you are still overseas
But wherever you are my heart will be with you"
