NDSU had 17 starters either transfer or get injured last year. Literally 17 STARTERS were missing and they still pulled a rabbit out of a hat to make the title game against SDSU. Amazing

Can't say enough about Coach Klieman. He was absolutely a home run hire for the Cats. He's making history at K-State... winning the conference after just four seasons is the fastest a Wildcats coach has ever done that.

Was enrolled in NDSU in 2011 during the first title run. Such a fun time, when winning like that was still a new thing, haha. Would love to see them jump to FBS someday, but sadly, don't think it will happen anytime soon.

My very first college football game was in December of 1990 when the North Dakota St Bison beat the Crimson Hawks of Indiana University (Pa) 51 - 11. This was the national championship game that was played here in my hometown, and played on the campus of my high school. I got to meet alot of players from division 2 teams that squared off in the title game. Also the finalists for the Harlon Hill trophy (The D2's version of the Heisman trophy) would come visit schools around the Shoals area here in northwest Alabama. I had an opportunity to go to the game in 1988 when the Bison beat South Dakota, but I didn't get to because I had just gotten out of the hospital due to being asthmatic. I'm 45 now and I can remember those games really well. Especially when my hometown UNA Lions won 3 straight, and was the state of Alabama's 4th straight D2 national championship. When North Dakota St beat North Alabama in McAllen, Texas in 1985 for the D2 title, and then the game moved here to Florence. I believe that era of D2 football owe alot to these 2 schools. A few other universities to give credit to are Northwest Missouri St and Grand Valley St. I got to go to every D2 title game From 1990 - 1999. And it seemed to gain more national recognition each year it seemed. And if I'm not mistaken, UNA is still the only D2 program to visit the White House as a guest of the President and as a national championship program. Now the NDSU Bison, the UNA Lions, an many other great D2 programs are making that push to become part of the new era of college football. And I hope they all do! I don't believe that we will ever see our beloved D2 teams win the big time national championship games that Bama, Ohio St, USC, LSU, Texas, Florida St, Florida , Oklahoma, Nebraska, Notre Dame, or Michigan has won. But I think it's possible we could see our programs become powerhouses when we see the big boys finally break away from the entire NCAA, and form what basically is going to be a draft development league. With everything that the NFL does, with some differences as it pertains to traditions, amount of games, and which bowl games become part of it. As far as the G5/FCS programs go. I believe we will see these teams take over what the power 5 built. UNA moved to the FCS as an independent in 2018. They officially were given full FCS membership status this past off season. And during these past 5 years, all I heard was how horrible it was for UNA to make the move to D1. Was told that it would destroy their athletic programs, would push fans away, etc. They couldn't have been further from the truth! As I've not only seen these programs sports attendance increase, but also school enrollment. UNA had 4,000 - 5,000 students 10 years ago. Today they are over 10,000. I'm sure the same can be said for NDSU. Sorry such a long comment, but wanted to give my thoughts on how my first college football game ever was when I watched the Bison here in Florence. And as a lifelong college sports junkie, and a die hard Alabama fan. It's an honor to have had a storied football program such as NDSU, as part of my college football experience. #FightOnBison #RoarLions #RollTide

It's unfortunate that NDSU AD Matt Larsen refuses to make any real effort to move up to FBS.
@paidtourist6563
@paidtourist6563 7 ай бұрын
Shows that you don't understand NDSU's culture and objective... NDSU has no interest in playing for the annual "No one gives a f*ck bowl" they want to play for championships. And what's the ONLY way they can play for championships at the FBS level? By being INVITED to a power 5 conference since the power 5 is making it almost physically impossible for G5 to even make a case for being ranked in the top 4. Cincinnati almost missed out on a top 4 ranking BEFORE the power 5 schools decided to form super conferences... So how can NDSU make the FBS playoffs if they aren't in a big media market and won't get a power 5 invite? The ONLY way is if the FBS playoffs expand to 16 or 24 teams. But does the playoff committee want to do that? So far no. The ONLY way I see NDSU even making an attempt to move up is if they hear rumblings of the playoffs expanding to 16 or 24 teams when would give NDSU a chance to make the playoffs from a G5 conference. But I did hear that NDSU is already trying to expand their current stadium seating with a building upgrade, so it does appear like they are headed in the direction of at least attempting to be ready for a move up if the right opportunity presents itself. I heard that NDSU already shot down multiple G5 invites over the last few years. NDSU doesn't need the G5, the G5 needs NDSU
@GermanShepherd1983
@GermanShepherd1983 7 ай бұрын
@@paidtourist6563 LMAO. You don't understand how poor FCS football has become. All the other big names have moved up, apparently they don't have a problem playing bowl games. Quit making excuses. NDSU has not turned down G5 offers, Larsen would take an invite, the problem is, he's too damned lazy to make an effort to pursue one. He thinks conferences will come to him, but that's not how it works. The AD needs to keep in constant contact with conferences and work out a deal, any deal. And the AD also needs to keep the donors informed so they are on board with a move up. Larsen thinks the only person who needs to know is himself, and that's why many, many donors have stopped giving to NDSU. Since Larsen won't make an effort, why should anyone make an effort to give money??? Good luck getting people to come to the FargoDome to see teams like Murray State and Indiana State, because that's all that will be left in FCS in a couple years.

@@GermanShepherd1983Not sure what your personal gripe is with Larson, but it’s clear that’s what is going on here. The problem is with geography. Trey Lance is also the most spectacularly overdrafted player NDSU has ever had, and likely will EVER have. He should have transferred to a D1 FBS school for a year (if the portal existed back then he likely would have, of course, but he still should have done it and been patient). He and whoever he was listening to saw the $$$$, and the 49ers GM should have lost his job for that. He could still become a good NFL QB in a few years, and he was traded to a good place for him to be, so there is still genuine hope for his career, but he has proven that he should never have been drafted above the 5th or 6th round. Brock Purdy of course is another story, so wildly underdrafted, but even so Purdy shouldn’t have gone before the 4th round. Most quarterbacks shouldn't be drafted as high as they are, I'm not picking on Lance at all, I'm "hating" on the stupidity of drafting QBs so high up. They should be at the same level as RBs given how most are a total bust relative to where they are drafted. Drafting any QB and expecting them to immediately be a starter in the NFL is managerial malpractice. They *all* need time. P.S. I'm also a 🦬 fan, fwiw.
