LHD FDs are more expensive because of the lower production numbers, you can import RHD FDs straight from auction for a decent price nowadays but LHD are in higher demand simply because they’re LHD and less made. The later 96-98 and 99-02 spec RHD FDs made more power than USDM FDs and got more options stock. I just imported a 1996 RX7 Type RS for $25k low miles. @@warrio961 I'm a little biased with my first comment, but I got my 1996 Type RS with 70k miles for $25k shipped and no issues thus far. It was auction grade 4. Mostly people that are ignorant have issues with any car on how to take care of it. I laugh at how people scoff at " awww it needs work". It a 1993 CAR!. Long story short i got something for pre-inflation price post inflation with like an extra 20k worth of mods (haltec, new pump, new turbo, rebuild and built block, ect), built for 600+ tuned for 345whp. and a spare 30k mile block. NA rotary are as reliable as a 90s american car, but ppl like to beat the hell out of them and cry when it breaks. 170k mile FB, and 93k mile FD. Dont get scammed, but if you really want a FD go and get it. I eat and sleep rotary, but its not worth 50k imo. Not all rotaries are trash. I have an 08 RX8 I bought new in high school (with my I got rebuilding and flipping RX7 and RX8s in my garage over weekends...) on the original motor with 244k miles still going strong. To be fair, that's the 13B Renesis is kind of looked down upon because they went back to NA, it has an electronic/plastic oiler system that fails and generally leads to the apex seals frying, and the list goes on... but if you treat it like a 2 stroke more or less with premix and know how to take care of it without ragging it out redline 24/7, it'll last a long time. That said, a car shouldn't require the driver to know the engines inside out just to keep them from popping at 45k, 94k, and keep adding around 40-50k miles per engine. I'm weird and love RX8s, but the one I thrash and track has a turbocharged 3.0L SHO V6 swap I did for fun, not the rotary. Even if it's polarizing, the chassis isn't bad if you can find one for like 600 bucks roller but complete and not damaged. Those are far and few between anymore, I got 2 like that during covid, put a 4.6L 32v DOHC Ford V8 in one, and the other is still with my trying to find a weird I4+turbo to throw in. I might use that one as a test best to screw with honda k-series stuff, I have a few 24a's in the warehouse next to a horde of 3.0l SHO V6 and 4.6l 32v DOHC V8s (I love both engines and used to yank them from cars out of the local junkyards when they showed up for cheap, the V8's were in Aviators that showed up somewhat often, better to be here than in a shredder).

I think you guys generally hit the nail on the head. The only thing I'd add is that if you're going to buy a rotary-powered car, you should probably be planning on rebuilding the engine yourself. If not, you should probably have lots of money to throw at it. I love rotaries, but in the future, I want an FC with like 100k miles on it and just rebuild the 13b right away. The NA 13b's are very reliable if you know what you're doing. You start adding boost, and you can get yourself in trouble if you don't understand the engine. EDIT: Netgear basically nailed it at 13:23

I’ve owned my FD since 2018. Completely stock, had a rebuild due to coolant seals going. Kept the car on stock twins, then went through another rebuild. Went single turbo with good supporting mods (AI, I-rotary seals, new housings/plates, AEM coils then R35 GTR coils, expensive NGK plugs, haltech, large streetport, etc.) Basically after 6 years of having rotary and doing everything I could to keep it alive, I decided to move on. It’s not enjoyable having a car that can decide to not work at any given time. Rotary die hards are in denial and probably have a working rotary because they drive it once a month (mind you I put 20k miles on my 2nd rebuild within 3 years). Its just one of those engines that you keep putting things into it and get nothing out of it. Not to mention they sound like crap. It’s a car you can brag about buying parts for and never actually use it. If people applaud you for having a working engine by doing x y z, then it’s not reliable to begin with. That’s why I’m J swapping and not looking back. Wake up!

LHD is the wrong side of the car and all of those FDs are cleaner than the S13’s on the market.

I'll never understand the price jump of these against rx8s. Regardless of the hp potential of the 13b compared to a renesis they're both temperamental cars that can blow at any minute.

They are not converted, they are japanese market cars. Some, such as the Silvia and Skyline, get a pass as they were never sold here. Cars that were sold here, however, the RHD variants are almost always worth less. If it actually is a conversion to RHD, the owner is an idiot.

Just want to comment on the sunroof- hardtops are more desirable and much more rare. Seemingly most people reviewing miss that anomaly. If you analyze final sale prices, hardtops actually demand a fair chunk of change more than those with a sunroof. Another phenom that seems to be overlooked is that USDM cars demand more money than an imported example (obvious but most people are remiss). The more you know. Also, I've owned a low mileage unmolested hardtop base model for the past decade. So keep driving them prices up lol.

Fd rx7 aren’t super unobtainable yet like you can find a decently nice fd 30,000 with some digging saw one with a 2j swap for 28 and a RHD drive one for 30

Every rotary guy: yeah easier to rebuild. Every rotary guy..... never does the rebuild. Give it 5 or 10 years and they'll all be blown and cheep
