I think Joel and Tess were canonically meant to be Federal soldiers, judging by the concept arts. It probably explains Joel’s disarming weapons and grappling 2:41 unless he has training by Tommy who was a veteran and firefly (para) military since they both been working together before and after apocalypse.

If I remember right Tommy was a veteran yeah but in Hbo's tlou so I think that doesn't really count At least I treat both as separate tlou worlds After all it's adaptation and stuff Where did you find those concept arts? I wonder if I missed something unless it's in the artbook then I don't own it
