The reason the coals black out is because people don't let them cook long enough. Leave em a extra couple of minutes and you won't have that problem.

Hey John just to throw my two cents in, whether it's in a lotus or on foil in my experience all coals will black out at some point. I think on foil they can black out depending on the environment you're smoking in, if it's cold or warm or windy it can all make a difference. With a lotus it's just the lack of air flow that causes coals to black out. In my experience I've used a lot of coconut coals and the brand that tends to last the longest are the titaniums. Good job on the coals and keep up the videos.

It's only normal for the coal to go black, if the design of the Hotplate is not ventilated at the bottom. i.e. underneath the actual coals. Get rid of the Lotus, or write to them and tell them to update their product. Here in the UK, we have half a dozen different hotplate alternatives. Good video. Thanks for uploading.

People don’t pre heat the Lotus seriously 😒 Let it heat up with the charcoal naturally put the timer of 5 minutes It’s not that long of a wait This guy not only he moved all that charcoal inside the heat management and all the ashes fall inside the tobacco from the sides you can see it very clearly 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️ The headache after that smoke 😩😭😭🤢🤮
