My favorite factoid about this movie is that the villain and the hero never meet. While they technically know of each other (Corbin is an employee of the Zorg empire and Zorg tries to use Corbin's lottery ticket to get his man to Fhloston Paradise) they are actually both totally unaware of the others' actions.

"Valerian" should have been the follow-up to this, but underperformed. (Wrong casting, marketing, ...) It was based on French comic books by the artist that worked also on the set design of The Fifth Element. There are also parallels to the older animated "Heavy Metal", which also had its origins in a French comic magazine, "Métal Hurlant"

Miła Jovovich stars in "Resident Evil" movies and 3 of those are not bad really. She's also in "The monster hunter" and "The messenger" which are both less widely praised than they deserve, in quite a few dramas that are watchable without regret and she's quite good in those, and she's got a smaller role in one of my favourite criminal comedies "Kuffs". "The whole nine yards" should definitely be watched. Very much so, please.

29:57 This song is "Il dolce suono" from the tragic opera Lucia di Lammermoor by Gaetano Donizetti. The actress on stage is Maïwenn (who I believe was Besson's wife at the time. I'm not sure if it was amicable, but their marriage ended around the time Besson became involved with Milla Jovovich.) The singer is Inva Mula-Tchako, an Albanian. Each and every note sung is her voice. However, she explained to Besson that it was impossible for a human singer to change pitches as quickly as the song required. So they recorded her singing each note individually, then stitched them together digitally. There are performers who do a wonderful job of recreating the Diva Dance, but without the dramatic pitch changes, of course.

Producer's note: it's not just you. In fact, there was a lawsuit about that after the film came out. From what I understand, the Heavy Metal comic book is based, or inspired by, an earlier French comic book, which was also the inspiration for this film. Sources: various articles online. No primary sources available, so I cannot say with certainty that this information is correct.

I think you have seen "There's Something About Mary", so I have to wonder if you recognized "Tucker" the architect/pizza delivery guy. He is the crew member that isn't a good negotiator :).

pretty sure mila started on the screen way way way before this.. pretty sure i saw her in 3rd rock when she was maybe 16 or something i love the movie but it makes no sense....why didnt the Mondoshawans just tell the humans "hey an alien is coming it will be here on this day this hour at exactly this place so ya know be ready".. they had to have know all this info centuries before it happened...after all the only place the 5th element could do her job was exactly where she did it, exactly when she did it.. no where or any time else EDIT, just checked she was in married with children as a french tease

The design of pretty much everything was by Jean Giraud (aka Moebius). One of my favorite artists.

Dazed and Confused: the film debuts of Milla Jovovich, Matthew McConaughey, and, blink and you'll miss her Renee Zellwegger. 1993, but set in 1976 Texas. There are lines you will instantly recognize. And if you like 1970s rock, the soundtrack is fantastic. RIP Luke Perry, who shot the aliens in the intro. RIP Tiny Lister aka Deebo from Friday. You are correct. Bilbo Baggins and Sirius Black sharing a scene. I use this film to test my TV and stereo settings. The costumes for Chris Tucker were toned down from the original designs.

Slightly off topic, but Renee and Matthew starred in the 1995 movie "Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation". They both tried to live down their roles in that film, but I found it highly entertaining and one of the best in the entire series. Go figure...

27:00 Putting passengers to sleep has a LOT of advantages: 1. They consume less oxygen 2. They take up less space and allow for passengers to be stacked on top of one another. 3. You don't have to serve refreshments. 4. You don't have to deal with Karens.

45:47 The actual " elephant thing " animatronic model from the movie sold at auction in London, September 2016 for $11,000. Sadly, I don't think anyone made a plushy of it. They did do bobble-heads of a few of the main characters...
