My favorite factoid about this movie is that the villain and the hero never meet. "Valerian" should have been the follow-up to this, but underperformed. (Wrong casting, marketing, ...) It was based on French comic books by the artist that worked also on the set design of The Fifth Element. 29:57 This song is "Il dolce suono" from the tragic opera Lucia di Lammermoor by Gaetano Donizetti. The actress on stage is Maïwenn (who I believe was Besson's wife at the time. I'm not sure if it was amicable, but their marriage ended around the time Besson became involved with Milla Jovovich.) The singer is Inva Mula-Tchako, an Albanian. Each and every note sung is her voice. However, she explained to Besson that it was impossible for a human singer to change pitches as quickly as the song required. So they recorded her singing each note individually, then stitched them together digitally. There are performers who do a wonderful job of recreating the Diva Dance, but without the dramatic pitch changes, of course.
