Pretty much all climbing anchors are generally in the exempt and/or in a gray are of LNT ethics. They are safety devices for moving through mountains so have a sort of different categorization of 'things left behind'. In ethical terms, you should minimize amount of material left behind, clean old material left behind and try to put them in less obvious (but safe) places.

The book seems to have a very loose definition of classic. A route that no one has ever heard of? A couloir that had never been skied before? Oh yeah, total classics!
@CodyTownsend2 жыл бұрын
Oh that couloir had definitely been skied before. In fact, Greg Hill has the first descent on it. The NE Face of Swiss is definitely a classic. One of the better lines I've skied honestly.
@src2482 жыл бұрын
@@CodyTownsend I wrongly assumed the authors were part of the group that had skied it. Classic implies some level of lasting popularity. Call it a remarkable line or a hidden gem, I just don't think "classic" is the right word for a line that only 3 groups have attempted, especially when two of those groups did it because of the book. Not a critique of the lines themselves!
@CodyTownsend2 жыл бұрын
Like I said, NE face of Swiss is a classic in exactly that sense. It's one of the most sought after great lines in the Selkirks. The "Uber Tour" is just kind of something the author of the blurb made up for the book I'd guess. But that author is MIA, so know one really knows what he was thinking of with putting it in there. Regardless, even if the Uber Tour is a mystery, it brings you to ski the NE Face of Swiss. So it's sort of accomplishes the intended goal...but just in a round about way.

Where’s the Moonswatch?
@Slipperygecko3902 жыл бұрын
What was the debrief on this? Pretty sketchy in there dude. You could tell Greg was not impressed with the situation. I don't know the topography but at 12:37 the line along the ridge above those slips seems fairly obviously the way to go, and fairly obvious before you went down that gorge it was going to be nasty, I looked on Goolge Earth to and I think thats the better line. That line needs more snow I suppose, probably the car park not being open till 7am doesn't help things, pushing you later into the season. Maybe whereever you go the beta from to go down there needs changed, you could still ski down and cross under the bridge without having to go down the gorge.
@CodyTownsend2 жыл бұрын
The only reason Greg was bummed was because he forgot the way he exited when he got the first descent. Not because he was freaked. That canyon was most definitely not the most dangerous part of the day. All the hazards were full controllable, meaning no avalanche, overhead or slough hazards. That was just adventure skiing…and a bit of a slog. Oh and there is not much beta on exit. There is one exit line that I for sure know is doable, involves more climbing and still bushwhacking, but no box canyon.
