In 1999, Virat Husain along with her camera crew went into the midst of the battlefield and captured the lesser-seen moments of the War. In an 8 episode series we see the stories come alive from those who lived, died and fought the 50 Day war.

I am a 75 year old who watched these episodes and many others on Kargil war. My observations about our army boys are: 1. they are always itching to go to battle and achieve their objectives 2. When injured they never complain and always proceed to continue to attack 3. Even when they are seriously injured they would always report just a minor injury knowing well they will die soon 4. They will always try to see that men in their command are safe. What a valour, what dedication and professionalism. Even 25 years after Kargil war tears roll down my cheek for the martyred, injured and their kin who suffered great stress during and after the war. They are true Indians. There were close to 566 martyred and many hundreds injured, some of them very seriously. I wish besides being compensating them, the government should have allowed them or their dependent's to draw their salaries until the time of their scheduled retirement time and there after the pension. I know many of them left their young wives, little children traumatised, old parents etc. It would have costed our grateful nation only few hundred crores - not much for their sacrifice. Where is our army and where are our corrupt, illiterate politicians some of them are as we all know power hungry anti national politicians. I hope some Kargil heroes or their dependents will read my sentiments and at least one or two of them will acknowledge my views.

I salute our brave soldiers. We lost a lot of men due to restrictions and also the delay in deploying airforce earlier. Had we deployed the airforce earlier we would have cut down Casualties. Many our Dear Soldiers would have lived on. But history cannot be changed. Our Brave soldiers fought un hostile conditions to drive the enemy away from our territory. Jai Hind

13:08 the letter was written by amul asthana from 1/11 Gurkha regiment. He a lt col. He was second in command after col Lalit rai.

Our brave soldiers won battle for us. But we suffered heavy casualties, due to delay in deployment of heavy artillery and air force. Due to this two late decision of government our army suffered a lot.

That's not the government's fault dude this was the 2nd best government after modi. Vajpayee ji was very firm. Government doesn't plan the war the armed forces do it and did it well. Casualties were inevitable due to horrible terrain

at early stages it was seen as minor intrusion,it was a week later when they realise full extent to give artellery support u need observation post in forward areas,army didnt have those as all post were evacuated

Vajpayee did not want to engage in a Full-Scale War. He ordered the Air Force to not cross the LOC but he allowed the pilots to retaliate if fired upon.

@@moira5675 There was no All-Out War. Both India and Pakistan desired to keep the conflict localised. Vajpayee knew that employing Air Power would mean Escalation, therefore he at the CCS briefing initially ordered the IAF to limit itself to just SAR & Recon missions, which were later expanded to CAS (as per Army's request). But after loss of 3 Aircrafts to Stingers, IAF Chief AY Tipnis made it clear that combating the Stinger threat was an absolute necessity. Vajpayee then gave the IAF go-ahead to use Mirage-2000s armed with LGBs & PGMs.
