NEW CASH LAWS
When was the last time you used a note or some coins to buy something? Well, today the government announced plans to force some Aussie business to accept cash as well as card to make sure no one is left behind at the checkout. There's no doubt Aussies are big fans of paying for things using a card, a phone, or even a watch. But for some, good old cash is still the way to go. In fact, cash is the preferred payment method for about 1.5 million Aussies. And now, the government wants to make sure they can keep using it in our ever growing digital world. That's why it's just announced plans for new rules that will force businesses that offer essential services like groceries, medicine and fuel to keep accepting cash. The government says it'll help those who still rely on notes and coins to get by like some older Aussies who feel more comfortable using it and people who live in rural areas who might have less reliable internet connections.
BANANA ARTWORK
About five years ago, this banana duct taped to a wall sent the art world into a kerfuffle, and now it's going up for sale! The piece was created by Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan, and it's aptly titled 'comedian'. It'll go up for auction later this month, with an estimated price of between, wait for it, 1 to 1.5 million US dollars! So what does all that money get you? A certificate of authenticity that grants the owner the permission and authority to reproduce the banana and duct tape on their wall as an original artwork.
WALLABIES
The Wallabies are back! They absolutely demolished Wales in Cardiff this morning, 52-20! And it's the most points they've ever scored against the team in 28 years, plunging Wales to its worst losing run in its history.
MELBOURNE UNITED V. ADELAIDE 36ERS
Now to Melbourne United's game with the Adelaide 36ers, where a minute into the final quarter, a scuffle between the sixer's Montrezl Harrell and United's Shea Ili quickly escalated to a melee between the teams which got worse when a few courtside fans got involved. Harrell, Ili, and the fans were all kicked out, and the NBL says it's investigating what happened. As for the game, Melbourne took the win, 113 to 93.
JAKE PAUL V. MIKE TYSON
And speaking of fighting, KZbinr-turned-fighter Jake Paul defeated veteran boxer Mike Tyson on Saturday via unanimous decision. Around 60 million households globally tuned into the live event on Netflix, or at least, uh, tried to. Social media's been flooded with memes about how laggy the broadcast was, to how lackluster the fighting was. But despite the criticism, the pair seem to be happy with their fight.
MOUSE PROBLEM
First up, to a situation at an animal shelter in the US. Where someone has just surrendered more than a thousand mice. With container after container being carried in, the shelter quickly filled up. Some people have already swooped in to adopt, and other shelters have offered to help lighten the load.
BIGGEST CORAL
Now to the biggest coral in the world. It's just been found in the Solomon Islands and is 3 times bigger than the previous record holder at 32 meters long, and 34 meters wide. Scientists reckon it's been growing for the last 300 years!
DARWIN CHRISTMAS PARADE
And finally, to Darwin. Where more than 50 floats, many of which were made by local schools, have taken to the streets for their Christmas pageant. Now, Christmas is still quite a few sleeps away, but it seems the children of Darwin already know what they want this year.
