The SW5e Fighter class! In this next installment of a beginner's guide to Star Wars 5e (SW5e) I take a look at the the Star Wars translation of the 'Fighter' class. If you like extra attacks and being the one in the party everybody points to when the bad guys show up, then this one is for you!

The fighter gets maneuvers and superiority dice as a standard part of the core class now too (where as in normal 5e that’s only in one subclass, even though originally during the 5e play test it had them as part of the core class too) Fighters also get further customization in the form of their Strategies

I'm currently playing a Fighter I built to play like a special forces commando. My turn looks like a normal fighter turn with a blaster but I save my bonus action for Sentinel Mastery's defensive stance to get extra reactions specifically for opportunity attacks equal to my proficiency bonus (plus an extra from Guerilla Mastery). Combined with Snapshot Mastery, Counterstrike Mastery, Guerilla Mastery and Sentinel Style I can make an opportunity attack whenever someone moves within 30 feet or attacks me. I have advantage on the damage rolls of my opportunity attacks, they put slow 4 on anything that I hit and I get to move half my movement speed with every AoO. If I opportunity attack as a reaction to being attacked then the enemy attack that triggered it is made at disadvantage. If anything manages to get within 5 feet of me I can spend my normal reaction to disengage and move half my movement speed. Name of the game is fire and maneuver, using Maneuvers and superiority dice to add some spice to my attacks when needed and to keep everything pinned down. I've got multiple power belts for ammo on a heavy blaster rifle so I have 48 shots in between reloads, less if I start using Rapid. My shooting every time the enemy moves keeps them bottled up, allowing myself and my team to pound them with AoE powers and grenades. My backstory is that my character was a teacher (I wanted three crafting kits so I took crafter with teacher for armstech, armormech and demo kit) until the Empire carpet bombed his city during the Mid Rim Retreat and his class room was leveled. Signed up with the Rebellion and has been fighting ever since, first with Twilight Company until he was sent to selection for Rebel Special Forces, after which he was put in the 32nd Commando Unit, which I've been treating as a combination of Green Berets and Delta. Go behind enemy lines, train locals to fight and then fight alongside them, direct action missions, hostage rescue, sabatoge, you get the idea. It's been a lot of fun and I've been employing tactics I learned from my time in the Marine Corps so it's extremely satisfying to see how applicable they are to a table top game.

Wow, that sounds like a fun build! I can visualize it now, this commando just laying down constant suppressing fire, keeping the enemy pinned everytime they pop their head out from cover. Good plan with the extra rounds, with all those reactions I expected you to run out of ammo a lot! I didn't realize there was a way to boost the number of reactions you could do per turn in that way, I need to look at that to see how that works!

@@JasonStCyr You're looking for Sentinel Mastery and Counterstrike Mastery for extra attacks of opportunity. Sentinel Mastery gives you extra attack of opportunity reactions equal to your proficiency bonus if you use your bonus action to go into a defensive stance. Counterstrike Mastery gives you an extra one specifically for an opportunity attack, but that one is made without your proficiency bonus so my advice is to save it for last or use it against something you know has low AC. I'd also recommend getting a power belt and a blaster with at least 12 reload, you're going to be burning through a lot of ammo an you don't want to run out when it's not your turn! I'm using a heavy blaster since I was a '31 in the corps and machine guns speak to me.

Adept Fighter dual wielding Crossguard Sabers. Takes Dual Wield Style. For its Fighter Strategies it takes Formfighting Master (Jar'kai, Shii-Cho, Makashi) and Dual Wield Mastery. At level 5 it's making 5 attacks. 2 with its action. One from using Jar'kai as a Free Action, possibly 2 by using Makashi and Dual Wielding Mastery together. 5-6 attacks at level 5. 10 at level 11 without any additional feats.

@JasonStCyr Or it could just forgo all of its TWF attacks to add an extra 6 to it's AC and make 3 attacks.
