If we take it at face value, the Bible literally says the Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father. (No argument there) Now when Jesus explains that the Holy Spirit will reveal of Christ, it does not necessarily mean it proceeds from Christ. In fact, it makes better sense that the Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father to reveal about God (Trinity) and any other interpretations lack the slight nuance in this. If you have another idea, go ahead and share it here.

If you watched the video, because he is a follower of Christ who cares to know about his God. As a protestant he has inherited the western catholic view. Its not often discussed in protestant churches but that dies not mean it is of no importance. Why would he not be concerned, when this is not a catholic or orthodox issue but a question concerning our Lord?

I wish we wouldn't be so easy to fight and split away from one another. We need to all be one united church of Christ. There is enough strife and division in the world already! I think both the Orthodox and the Catholic views can be correct and that either way my faith remains unaffected. Jesus said that He and the Father are one. So, whether the Holy Spirit is sent by Jesus from the Father or from both the Father and Jesus is not a game-changer for me.

How is the Filioque Arian? The Filioque affirms the eternal Sonship of Jesus & the eternal Personhood & deity of the Holy Spirit. Eternal Son is not Arian since Arians believe that there is NO eternal Son

The filioque the way roman catholics understand it destroys the trinity. There is a reason the fathers at the second Ecumenical did not add it to the creed. That protestants have just adapted this heresy peddled by the papists is very ironic for a movement founded on question where Rome erred and innovated from the ancient church.

Great job! I agree ...it's hubris to think we can understand EVERYTHING about The Trinity. Filioque may be correct to quash any tendency to Arianism, but perhaps this is not the place to solve the problem.

The reason the Orthodox and Eastern Catholics do not say the filioque is because the way it is said in Greek.

The filioque is in the Athanasian creed as well

The "athanasian" creed is likely a forgery as it dates from several centuries after St. Athanasius lived and is found in Latin when he spoke and wrote Greek.
