His mission is to keep all monsters in check and away to like Hollow Earth as Godzilla hides himself away as well until a threat comes. He's just a guard of the earth so that's the main reason why he attacked Kong and plus.. he was provoked all along sensing the threat of Mecha Godzilla even though he couldn't find the threat. Godzilla should be as much liked as Kong is due to Godzilla saving the world twice before this movie

So Godzilla is not the bad guy, Apex is. Godzilla is the balance and protector of Nature. He knew Kong was on Skull Island and he was fine with that but when the humans took him away that’s when Godzilla sensed it. Godzilla knows where everything is and all the titans, he knows the humans exist. He only attacks anything that threatens him or the planet, or an imbalance on the planet. He’s the protector of life.

Good reaction! So with this movie, it’s more focus on Kong but Godzilla was presented as a misunderstood character because while the characters saw him as the “villain,” he really wasn’t and Mechagodzilla is a character from the classic films like Ghidorah (Monster Zero), Mothra (the Queen), and Rodan (the bird) from King of the Monsters are also from the classic films. The reason Mechagodzilla acted on its own was because Ghidorah (Monster Zero) took over when Apex used the Hollow Earth Power Source bringing him back to life to seek his revenge on Godzilla. That’s the real reason why Godzilla was aggressive the whole movie. He sensed Ghidorah’s presence every time Apex activated Mechagodzilla and why he went to destroy their facilities. Considering how dangerous that three headed dragon was, it makes sense why Godzilla was mad at humans. Kong was basically a obstacle in his way, because he refused to submit, and thought Kong was working for Apex but at the end they both gain mutual respect for one another and made a truce. As far as personal connection for Godzilla, the only one he clearly cares for is Mothra but unfortunately she did die last movie but if she was involved in the story, she would had tried to calm Godzilla down when he was fighting Kong. Lol

They were using a portion of the brain from one of Ghidrah aka Monster Zero's 3 heads in Mecha-Godzilla...thus bringing a 3rd of Ghidrah back to life which fried the human's brain...meanwhile Godzilla senses Ghidrah his greatest and most deadliest rival and nemesis is back albeit in a Mecha-Godzilla body...Godzilla is extremely pissed off and coming to finish the job that was supposed to have ended in Godzilla King of Monsters. Oh yea that axe "The axe is made with a Titan bone as the handle and a dorsal fin from a member of Godzilla's species as the blade. It is also wrapped in Godzilla scales. When charged by Hollow Earth energy or Godzilla's atomic breath, the blade glows blue, similar to Godzilla's dorsal fins when he charges the attack."

Kong's containment was built because the storm that perpetually surrounded Skull Island was disturbed by the atmospheric storms caused when Ghidorah was loose. Caused Skull Island's storm to take over the island, wiping out all the Iwi and most life. The little girl Jia was the only survivor, saved by Kong. That's why they have a connection.

Godzilla did take Kong seriously, and you guys might ask why I say this, and that’s because people like to bring up the interview that Adam Wingard who directed the movie said that Godzilla never took Kong seriously. it's been 51 years since the events on Skull Island in 1973,Kong was still a juvenile then,even tho he already lived at least a century (we don't really know his exact birth date),so yeah,boi is getting old. So,Kong was contained in that dome because one of Monster Zero/King Ghidorah's hurricanes that persisted in the Pacific slowly went towards Skull Island,engulfed the perpetual storm surrounding it and they both invaded,flooded and destroyed the island,turning it uninhabitable. It was some kind of revenge on Ghidorah's part, 'cause Kong did not respond to his Alpha calling,being an Alpha himself,Skullcrawlers did tho,in fact Kong had to take care of them and prevent them from escaping the island. Godzilla is fine,he reclaimed his original home in the Pacific that he once lost to one of the Kong species,who,in turn,lost it (together with his life) to another Titan,who was cast out by Godzilla through a severe lesson. That temple that looked like Godzilla's was built by the Kongs and humans (Iwi,same people of Skull Island) Hollow Earth civilization,thousands of years before,the Kongs were a very advanced species,but they started to become too human,in a negative way,enslaving other Titans for their own gain,so Godzillas declared war against the Kongs and won it,exiling the remaining Kongs on Skull Island,where they were massacred by Skull Clawers,Kong's mother gave him birth right before being killed. There's quite the shit ton of written lore between novels and comics,all exposition they couldn't fit into the movies,but,if you want more of the MonsterVerse,you can react to the recent Apple TV+ series Monarch-Legacy of Monsters,it's a good one! And if you want more outside Legendary's universe,there's also 2016's Shin Godzilla from Toho,and the new Minus One,well,we gotta wait for it to be on a streaming platform for a couple of months still 😪

Oh, Godzilla vs Kong was 100% planned. One of the primary goals for the MonsterVerse was to get to Godzilla vs Kong. The reason why Kong didn't answer Ghidorah is because he, himself, is an Alpha Titans. They're immune to an Alpha Call (Same reason why Mothra and Godzilla didn't bow to Ghidorah.) The Skullcrawlers, however, _did_ answer the Call, so Kong was a little busy keeping them from leaving the island. As for Skull Island itself, unfortunately the storms generated by Ghidorah eventually merged with the storm surrounding Skull Island, wiping out the native lifeforms. The only way Kong was able to survive was because of his bioDome. EDIT: Who built the Kong temple? Why, the Kongs of course! They do mention it in the film, but it is admittedly glossed over a bit, but the Core energy that charged up the Axe is what lights up and gives energy to the Hollow Earth. I think the Hollow Earth is gonna be explored more in GxK: the new Empire.
