Yes, our in Sidney NY is closing mid Feb 2020. Kmart in Honesdale (my hometown one) closed a few years ago, going to miss them! Used to get my tires and everything there. Now, we have to resort to WallyWorld. Sucks!

It's sad how EL has destroyed both K-mart & Sears. I worked for Sears, & did two stints. My first was from 2006-2010- worked Loss Prevention & as a CSA in the Auto Center. Left for what I thought was greener pastures. Then I was told of an opening for Backroom Associate. Got my foot back in the door by being cashier (which I hated), back to Loss Prevention , to Backroom. Worked my way up to Backroom Lead that lasted 2 weeks & was changed to Ops Manager then it was changed again back to Backroom Lead which lead to being Store Support which was the same as being Operations/ Backroom Lead rolled into one. I held every position except Softlines & Hardlines Leads. However when we didn't have Hardlines Lead myself & Softlines Lead had to handle those duties. The store I first worked at closed April 2018. Then my store closed in Aug 2018. To this day I miss it and some of the people I worked with, keep in touch with a few. I had fun working there, not to many places you can that.

Can I ask if the pay was any different if it's not rude? I was told by our LP, when I worked at Kmart before we closed, that she only made 75 cents more than I made which was minimum wage. 75 cents more for basically risking her life everyday. I thought that was kind of messed up. But then I learned about Eddie and it kind of made sense. 😕
@mjayp3204 жыл бұрын
@@elsadiamond1001 sure I don't mind answering. My background was in Security & Law Enforcement, 15 years in Security & 17 years LE. With that exp. when I was hired for LP in 2006 pay rate was $8.25/hr, I was given $9. In 2014 pay scale was $7.25. Now because of my exp & working LP/Asset Protection I was only given $8.75. I will say this, the pay sucked all around. I thought at least a cashier should have gotten $9 plus the store to home, & credit cards. Finished out as an Ops/ Store Support Manager.

So nice of the manager to let you do this, at this point what's it gonna hurt? 70 stores left, I think the end comes by this summer.😥😥😥 I have a challenge for you Wallie.....to be present for the last day,/closing of the LAST K-Mart in the U.S. Do you think you can do it?

steven t, wonder that if that would happen to be one in either Puerto Rico (probably the larger Plaza Las Americas location) or the US Virgin Islands... That would be AWESOME if Wallie came to one of those for the FINAL closing....

Cletus5258 - actually the number I've checked from other sites is even MORE SELECT as of February, 2020.... 46 in Continental US (none in HI or AK) + 7 in Puerto Rico (including my hometown's 7788 - Rexvile Towne Center) + 4 in USVI (2 in St. Thomas and 2 in St. Croix) + 1 in Guam = 58 TOTAL Kmarts.

Thanks for the follow-up, glad I got to see the back rooms again. Back through the double doors near the office, electronics stockroom was left and the cleaning stuff after that, then on the right was a sporting good stock room. There was a spot there you said looked like a little office... if I remember correctly that's where there was a drill press for drilling out bowling balls. There were punches for putting lettering on them as well.

Awesome behind the scenes tour! @8:32, with all those breaker boxes, one wouldn’t realize an typical Kmart would need a lot of electrical power for all the lighting in the stores and in the K cafe area, those weird looking outlets @9:59 along one of the red stripes would of been for the lighted signs, those outlets would be known as clock hanger outlets with an hook on the cover meant for hanging wall clocks on.
