On December 1st, 2019, the Kmart in New Castle, Pa shuttered. It had been open since 1977. Prior to this Kmart there was S.S. Kresge dating back to 1974 behind the building. As part of Sears Holdings / Transform Co bankruptcy troubles, this store was just one of hundreds of victims to close.

Better. I was crying yesterday because i ordered the last two sears catalogs every made. It reminds me of my grandmother who passed away and my grandfather is not doing well. My brother and I would always be so excited to go to sears and see our grandmother worked at the front of the store . She would always greet us with the sweetest hug when we entered the store or surprised her in the breakroom. Its crazy how a over 100 year old company rhat sold watches clothes . even cars and houses by the end of this year will just be gone. I associate Sears with lots of hugs and smiles and laughter. That's one of the main reasons why my baby's middle name is Sears not only to remember the great company but the great memories I feel like when I hold my baby I'm remembering a piece of my grandparents. I brought a display case for the two catalogs but I will be receiving in the mail so I can always protect and cherish the memories. When I'm holding little baby Nathan Sears against my chest and hugging him tight when I'm having a bad day it will feel like I'm holding a piece of you with me your spirit will never leave my memory and you will never leave me. I just want to tell you my grandparents I love them I miss them so much and I will literally always hold on to that memory our Sears and all the other fun times we had together literally right against my heart.

It’s a shame of what has happened to this once mighty chain!!!! We have now lost our last remaining Kmart in our state!!! Seeing people who have been at that store for over 30-40 years is just heartbreaking because of the loss of their jobs!!! The owners need whipped for doing this to Kmart & Sears, as well as all the damn online shoppers!!!! This day & age, people have no care in the world about anything other than their own selfish selves!!!!

Awesome video. I used to work there almost a decade ago now, and worked for the company twice. One thing I can always say about my time with Kmart is they always had the best crew of ppl to work with. I drive by the old building every time I make it back to that area. Seeing those pics on the bulletin board broke me I worked at a place called k’s merchandise till it closed in 2007 people don’t realize what a store closing really means not A time to criticize how they had a bad experience at a particular store . People are losing their jobs people who have dedicated years to this place .

Every time I drive by our old Kmart, I get sad. I was a Kmart shopper and ate in the Kmart cafeteria a lot. I still miss the store and the good old days. I will never again feel that kind of loyalty for a store again, the reasons to don't exist today.

Sadly the Kmart in my hometown of Redlands, CA. closed down. There are sites on KZbin that play the old Kmart commercials and they bring back tons of memories. Kmart is definitely a store I grew up with. My dad worked at Kmart in the early 80’s. Just sad to see the store go.

There are only two Kmarts left in the entire state of Iowa. They are both closing next month (February 2020). It was more than a two hour drive, but I went to the one in Charles City a month or so ago. It ended up being what is almost certainly the last time I'll ever step foot in a Kmart. Over the years, I've been watching every single Kmart I've ever been to, even only once, close one at a time... Cedar Rapids South, my childhood store Cedar Rapids North Omaha West Center Road Farmington Hills Orchard Lake Road Omaha 50th & L Oelwein And soon, Charles City. Kmart was a big part of my childhood. I remember going to the Cedar Rapids South store many, many times. It's sad to see what was once such a great company get literally murdered by a very greedy man.

Saw the same thing at our Kmart off Robert St. in West St. Paul. MN a few years ago...It was surreal seeing such a huge space completely empty and odd seeing the signs and fixtures marked sold - you'd think no one would want those but I'm sure other stores and businesses would.....no one has used the building for several years - it still stands empty.

Sounds like my hometown Kmart in Pikeville KY. Ours opened up about 1977 and closed in 2016 I cannot remember not having one and it was a sad day on the last day of business. But the building sit empty for about 6 months before Rural King moved in and is still open today. We also had a Magic Mart across the road that closed all their stories after 90 years of being opened. The building Magic Mart was in when closed for Good was the 3rd store that was built for the same store in our town over the years. When it closed it might sound lame to some people but it was like loseing a family member. Magic Mart closed in the summer of 2019 and is still empty but isn't on their website as being for sale anymore. Magic Mart had about 30 stores in Kentucky,Virgina and West Virgina. Love Watching your videos and will keep watching btw we had a Ames store that was a Murphy Mart but Ames closed 25 years ago. The old Ames building is still there as a JC Penny's thanks Wallie

It is sad what's happened to the company and, in turn, employees. My family regularly went to K in the '80s in East Stroudsburg, Pa. That location closed in summer 2017, and we've been going to the Wind Gap, Pa., location since late that year- and it's now set to close by mid-March. Leaving just a few in the surrounding regions.

I hope someone buys that building within the next few years, before it gets rotten and vandalized. When I used to live in Oregon, our Kmart was 30 miles away in Albany. That store closed in 2014 and in 2016 it was torn down and they built a prototype design Win-Co right on top. I wish they had saved the old Kmart building and opened the store in there.

I feel so bittersweet watching these, on one hand I emphasize with the employees losing their jobs, especially so close to the holidays. On the other, you treat these stores and employees with way more respect and dignity than the current regime ever could or did.

They 'recycled' my old neighborhood's K-Mart very swiftly. One minute it was there and three weeks later it had been transformed into three piles of rubble with no single piece being larger than a softball. Within eleven months a local grocery store chain had their newest flagship store operating on the site in Feasterville, Pennsylvania.

It's so sad to these Kmart's closing the one where I live also just recently shut it's doors for good after surviving many of the store closings , I have so many childhood memories of eating in the kmart restaurants back in the 70's while growing up . In my hometown of Oshawa, Ontario, Canada we lost Kmart in the 90s some of them became Zellers and then Zellers closed 2014 but some became Target and Walmart Stores and we lost Target in 2015 and then in 2017, we lost Sears Canada. Not to mention the closing of Eaton's 1999 and Simpsons in 1991. Retail shopping is not happening much in my hometown we can blame the Internet but we can also blame the retailer for the cost of the items and the economy there are many factors why big companies are going down fast.

It is weird. In 1996 I was wrongly let go.... I stated, upon leaving, "In 20 years your company will be eliminated". Naturally, they took this as a death threat, but I never meant it that way, I meant retail wise, they would be eliminated. That was said in 1996..... I was inaccurate in my assessment, it only took 23 years.

0:01 this one had 3 of the 4 signs. It had the original red/turquoise from the age of it with that 70's style awning, the Antonini curve means it had 3 horizontal red lines highlighting the block K/script "mart", and the brackets indicate it was Big Kmart (like 99% of them who were either Big or Super Kmart's at one point), before the sign was removed to revert back to Antonini's version, sans the horizontal lines.

I just stumbled across your video very neat that you captured history. A child of the 70s and 80s this sure makes me feel sad. My Mom used to say nothing lasts forever. I have fond nemories of playing under the clothes racks with my little brother while Mom shopped for our school clothes and supplies. And as an adult buying garden supplies and Christmas gifts and even some groceries in my local Kmart which also closed a few years ago. Kmart was great in its hay day with the blue light specials. I never realized how important these stores were in our lives until now looking back. Many of my childhiod Christmas toys and a lot of my clothes came from Kmart. We didnt have internet ordering or even cell phones. Its 2022 now and Im more convinced than ever our nation is in rapid decline intentionally flammed by globalists who intend to have a one world order with hust a few options soon. KMart is a great store. Much better quality than Walmart which I hate. People will miss the competition when there is only Walmart. Our KMart in Hagerstown, MD is closing even though it was doing well according to the employees. I blame it on poor corporate leadership and consumers who falll for Walmart's junk.

It's very sad. There were 2 KMarts not far from me. The one in Pleasantville NJ closed about 2 or so years ago. The one in Somers Point NJ closed sometime in December 2019. I'm not sure of the exact date but I do think it was after Thanksgiving and before Christmas. I read an article a few days ago that the possibility of a Planet Fitness will open in the Somers Point location.
