The time between before the emus and when the diesels were retired felt like overnight. The only time I rode Caltrain was a few months ago, before the emus. And that felt very recent. On the bright side, they could use those diesels to provide more frequent service to Gilroy.

Your description incorrectly calls the new EMUs “Flirt”. They are “KISS” units. Remember as a rule of thumb: Flirt is single-level, Kiss is bi-level.

I was lucky enough to ride both the last F40+gallery set and the Stadlers the next day. Only thing I would do to fix them is transplant the P2s off of the F40s and onto the stadlers

There is more to the Caltrain electrification than just a reduction of emissions. Electric trains in general and EMUs in particular provide much faster acceleration than diesel-powered trains, so this upgrade now allows Caltrain to shave significant time off their schedules.

@@tsguy-h3q probably since trains aren’t really built to “sound good” like stadler isn’t really thinking about what rail fans think the best sounding bell or horn is because the main priority is to get people from A-B

920-922 are MPI F40PH-2Cs, built without the headlight on the nose (who knows why). Those will be staying alongside the MP36PH-3Cs.
