When I was in school, my father was an E6 in the Navy. We qualified for free lunch. How screwed up is that? He was a senior damage controlman, which meant when the ship was damaged, he ran toward to the danger rather than run. He was often urged to go up through the ranks, but he loved the thrill. We qualified for free lunch. I still remember the others with enlisted father's who also qualified. That stigma remains with me today. I am an old, disabled woman, scared to death of losing what little I have. The awful part is despite the COLA going up, the poverty rate hasn't changed. I no longer qualify for any assistance. Which means my Medicare Part B is paid by me, but I can't afford to use it.

I grew up with a single mom, she worked, no child support, we were on food stamps and Medicaid. Even when dad ended up very wealthy we stayed on govt help. It wasn’t my mom’s fault he left her to be a playboy and go have fun so that’s how we ended up there. People have no idea a backstory. I was embarrassed when at grocery store and my mom would pay with actual food stamp paper money, no plastic cards back then. A member of government should not be a conspiracy theorist because his ideas will actually affect people in the policies he supports/makes. His stance on things like vaccines, fluoride in water, and unpasteurised milk should be setting off alarm bells for anyone who even has a basic understanding of biology. We've already seen that effect with his visit in Samoa in 2019, in which he rallied against the MMR vaccination with other anti-vaccine advocates. As a result of this campaign (and the subsequent decline in immunisation rates to 31%), by January 2020, there had been over 5,700 cases of measles and 83 deaths. RFK has of course denied that this was the cause and instead has blamed the deaths on malnutrition (something proven to be false). Now scale it up from a tiny country like Samoa, and apply this to the United States and you will understand why he is so dangerous.

I must state something to the person questioning conservatives coming up with solutions. David was very diplomatic and fair in his response. I would say that there is a very real bias towards people who are liberal/progressive being far more creative and thoughtful in their approach to life. Conservatives tend to be more fearful and less well educated, both which are conditions counter to being creative, collaborative and willing to propose novel solutions. I have worked in and around cutting edge science my entire life and almost all of the truly creative and intelligent people I've know - also have a more progressive/inclusive idea for society. Just my 2 cents worth.

Tariffs on imported cars is also a form of corporate welfare. It allows US auto manufacturers and retailers to inflate the price of automobiles (because the price tag is comparable to an import after the added tariff), and then consumers pay for it in the form of inflated prices. If a guy who earns $50k a year, buys a pick up truck for $70k, the sticker tax is more than what he paid in payroll taxes for that year and maybe two or three years. Then on top of that, he has to shell out hundreds of dollars more per month extra in financing and insurance. If we just allowed China to dump inexpensive EVs at the wholesale price, it would totally change the economic landscape here in the US - in a good way for most people.
