and now probably is in Hellenic Army ready for service Again ..

Yeap it will be on service in a few months and we will take good care of it. Despite the economic crisis we take care of all aircraft the same as we did when we "had" money. We even built new facilities in our Air-Aviation bases to store the new birds.

Gee Grange why is the Kiowa crap ? :D
@vaggelisgian5 жыл бұрын
Gee Grange The OH-58D Kiowa Warrior was taken out of service not because of its age , but due to cost cutting reasons when Obama was president of the United States. It’s a very good helicopter with modern avionics and can be used for many tasks , like observation , spotting targets for artillery units and Apache helicopters and be a full on attack helicopter. The weapon systems that the Kiowa can operate are well known to the Hellenic Army Aviation . Weapons including the AGM-114 Hellfire Missile and the Hydra 70 rockets that the Apaches already use , the M2 Browning 50cal. machine gun that is already in widespread use with the Hellenic Armed forces and the Stinger Missile which is also already in service with the Hellenic Armed Forces . Furthermore , the Bell 206, which is the base helicopter of the Kiowa , has been on service with the Hellenic Army Aviation for years and its maintenance and spare parts are cheap and you can find them easily . To summarize, the Kiowa is a deadly , effective and modern addition to the Hellenic Army Aviation . It will work closely with the Apaches and especially the older ‘’Alphas’’ , which lack modern avionics and targeting systems . They will also be used for patrolling islands where it’s too costly and risky to fly the more expensive Apaches . Although I also think that we should by at least 10 new AH64E helicopters , they’re just too expensive. 70 Kiowa Warrior helicopters with all the radars , sensors , avionics , weapons and necessary spare parts for years to come costed ‘’only’’ 45 million euros if I’m not mistaken, so they are a bargain if you think the operational opportunities that they will open up . They will also replace a number of AB-205 and UH-1H Huey helicopters and Cessna light aircraft in observation roles and will play a critical role in an event of an invasion or a crisis like Imia in 1996, because they are very reliable , cheap to maintain and run and fast to deploy . As for the lack of a Hellenic Arms Industry, I’m with you . Although there are a lot of Arms industries in Greece , we seem to ignore them . There are companies that sell more products to NATO allies than Greece . We can make whatever we need and whenever we tried to make something we were betrayed by our Government. For example , the Kentauros IFV made by the Hellenic Vehicles Industry , the Artemis 30 anti-aircraft gun , the ALS class Corvettes etc . They were canceled because our government cared more about making money than helping the country and a perfect example is our communist government. We need a government with guts and patriotism (not nationalist or anything far-right and especially not far-left) . The best solution to restart our Arms Industry is to upgrade our existing weapon systems with Greek products , undergo agreements and make weapon systems from other countries and partner up with countries like Israel, Serbia , Cyprus , Italy , France and even the US , so we can start developing weapon systems . I think that this is a very reasonable solution for this problem .

Gee Grange I appreciate your opinion as well , it seems that not everyone on the internet is just ready for an argument, there are people like you and me that prefer to have a friendly chat . I think that that’s not going to happen with this government . We need to concentrate our efforts to make more money out of farming goods and to develop our arms industry . Even if Turkey won’t get their F-35s , they’re still a very dangerous and aggressive enemy , as we see every day on the skies and on the sea . I think that buying F35s is not the best countermeasure against Turkey, we have to look deeper in our and their weaknesses to truly understand which countermeasures we need against them . Thank you for the friendly chat and your honorable opinion , καλή συνέχεια φίλε 🇬🇷

I hated they were only 2 seaters. I only got to fly twice as a crew chief. Luckily once was at the range at Fort Hood. Doors off, .50 cal on my left, rockets on the right. It was a great day in 97'.

Hey how they aim ? i mean i see no aiming device ?, they use some kind helmet mounted display ?, i mean the reticle is shown in visor ?
@braydonwhetman675 жыл бұрын
The Kiowa doesn't have any aiming assisting device. If you notice when the first rocket is shot, it is way off of the target on the mountain. The pilot corrects their aim and the second rocket is closer. It's like firing and adjusting. However, some pilots take a sharpie and draw their own reticles on their side of the cockpit window.
