Eggman has never wanted to destroy the world - he wants to rule it. So he'll usually tend to help out in earth threatening situations, but he's still evil. He just doesn't want the planet he lives on to be destroyed.

Originally Shadow was supposed to die in this game. For good. But his immense popularity with fans caused SEGA to bring him back when Sonic Heroes rolled around. As for the homing attack not working, in this game it's based on both proximity and which direction you're moving in. Which kinda explains why Shadow kept locking onto the raspberries instead of the Biolizard's big button thing on it's back. So Shadow and Sonic will lock onto whatever is closest in front of them. Or whatever direction you're trying to head in. And to get around the dark orbs the Biolizard tosses at you, you have to jump over the lower ones and roll under the higher ones.

@@sonic-bd6ku Riders is absolutely a spinoff. None of Frontiers' story references it, just some flavor text. It also references Sonic Boom and the IDW comics. Those aren't mainline. I do agree with you on Shadow the Hedgehog though, ESPECIALLY because of Sonic X Shadow Generations.

Shadow WAS supposed to die, but a LOT of people liked him and, well, you'll see in later games. Also, a very cool detail is that while the Finalhazard fight is happening, you will eventually start entering the atmosphere, fire surrounding Sonic, Shadow and the Biolizard. By 4 minutes and 30 seconds in, the screen starts turning almost fully red, and everyone in the ARK is telling you to get out of there and come back. There's a few videos that show the entire Finalhazard dialogue, and as the fight goes on, it shows that Shadow is actually running out of energy and can't hold his super form for long, leading to his fall at the end of the fight.

After fighting The Biolizard a lot of people question how the ultimate life form project went from a giant lizard to a hedgehog. Remember that paper that Rouge holds in that one cutscene on the dark story? It’s fully readable and here what it says: The 23rd “Project shadow” report Current status 12:30A.M. on January 27th, we initiated the experiment to start Shadow's first prototype. The experiment was success- fut. The life form's eternal engine and the organ to start the Chaos control are working normally. However, the measurements of the experiment was higher than we expected, we will continue this experiment at the Central Dome from now on. Note Pr. Gerald pointed out that the growth speed faster. of the first prototype is getting The current body length is 2.7m, and the current weight is 350kg. It's growing so fast in the last couple of days at an exponential level. Professor has requested that the control part of the life form's vital organs needs to be reinforced. We need to keep an eye on the prototype, because the prototype is still not strong enough to walk by itself, but it has a strong neck and a tail. The prototype is sensitive to the temperature and humidity changes, and its intelligence and learning ability level is still low. At this point, the prototype is still more like an animal Top Secret

And yes, this game was written with the possibility that it could have been the last Sonic game and Shadow was indeed supposed to be dead. And If you are going to give a look at the side game I recommend trying the Master System version of Sonic 1! It's really good, but don't try the Game Gear port, the screen is too Zoom in. And as for Sonic Heroes, start with Team Rose, it's the easiest story and it forces you to play the tutorial.

Gotta love early 2000s video game translation standards. Shadow was supposed to say "Was that... Chaos control?" at 27:39. It's a little janky, but I think the Biolizard is a pretty well-designed boss fight. I like bosses that require lightning-quick reactions, being an Old-School Runescape player. By the way, the balls of energy that are floating in the air can be somersaulted under, while the ones half in the ground are jumped over.

You're pretty right for Shadow's death, they didn't expect him to get so popular so the fans was the reason why he was brought back! 35:20 : Eggman wants to CONQUER the world while Gerald aimed to destroy it because of Maria's murder. I think it's more a case of "you need as many lives as possible for this stage". So just 1 death from drowning can result in a game over. And the section itself just takes longer if you need to pick up several air bubbles

Impressive of how you handled Knuckles' part of that long stage without having to get the "Air Necklace". I don't think that I could have done it without that power-up. I lost over 30 lives during that Shadow vs Biolizard boss battle before I finally managed to beat it, and the Finalhazard one I think that I only lost 4 lives before I won that battle. So in my opninon that final battle is easier. PS, Shadow saying:"Is that what Chaos Control is?" was just a mistranslation of the original Japanese dialoge. Also, "Escape From the City" is the name of the song that Sonic's first stage has playing in it, and SEGA originally planned for Shadow to be a 1 time character who would only appear in this game, but they changed their minds and decided that it would 100% be a better idea to bring him back for future Sonic stuff after they found out how highly popular he had become.

Honestly, based on stuff we're seeing so far about Sonic X Shadow Generations, I'm pretty sure Shadow the Hedgehog (2005) should be treated with the importance of a mainline game. It's looking like Sega doesn't consider it a spin-off at this point. So it should really have a full series between Heroes and 06. As for the stuff about Sega and Sonic Team, and whether or not Shadow is supposed to be dead. As you probably already know, Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 came out on the Sega Dreamcast, which was Sega's fourth console (Master System, Genesis, Saturn, Dreamcast). Sega only really started finding success with the Sega Genesis. The Sega Saturn bombed, because it was difficult to develop for and was going up against the PlayStation and Nintendo 64. The Dreamcast was doing a little better, but not enough to save the company. Part way through the development of Sonic Adventure 2, it was very evident that Sega was not going to be able to make consoles in the future. In fact, the Dreamcast had already been discontinued by the time Adventure 2 came out. Sonic Team believed that it was probably going to be at the last Sonic game they were going to be able to make, so they wanted to end it off in a way that would be satisfying. Of course, then Sega went third party, which allowed the series to continue. Sonic Adventure 2 was both the last Sega game on a Sega console, and the first Sega game on a Nintendo console. The game found most of its success on the GameCube. As for Shadow, yes he was supposed to be dead. But because they figured out they were able to make more games, and Shadow had become such a popular character, they decided they had to find a way to bring him back. I won't spoil how they did it though. You'll have to find out in Sonic Heroes and a Shadow the Hedgehog (2005), as they both go over the topic.

Maria is not actually talking to Shadow, it's in Shadows mind. After Gerald Robotnik went insane by realizing that Maria is dead, he got captured by GUN and was forced to finish his last research on Shadow on Earth, where he secretly programmed the ARK and the Biolizard to crash on Earth. He also, and thats a fan theory, but it would make perfect sense, manipulated Shadows memory to think, that Maria wanted revenge. Later in the game, his memories come back in form of Maria's voices. Gerald was executed by GUN shortly after Shadows completion, Shadow was packed in a capsule where he couldn't age. 50 years later, Eggman finds him and the story of Sonic Adventure 2 Starts.

The reason Eggman decided to work alongside Sonic and the others is because he's a pretty selfish guy, he wants to rule over the world, but he doesn't want to be toasted alongside it, nor want the world to be fully destroyed because like that he can't build his empire, and you'll also see he's like that in future games, this isn't the last time he'll team up with Sonic to save his skin, he won't become a good guy in the future, this isn't a new page for our favorite Egg Shaped scientist, but he does team up with Sonic to save himself from trouble Shadow was awakened by Eggman because Eggman thought Shadow would help him rule the world with the help of the Eclipse Cannon, but Shadow had other intentions, the intentions Gerald planted on his mind, destroy everything and everyone, and tricked Eggman into believing he wanted to help Eggman with his task, but when all the Emeralds were placed on the ARK, instead of activating the Eclipse Cannon (which would be useless anyway since Sonic threw the fake emerald in the Cannon and it exploded) the ARK would collapse with Earth and explode thanks to the Chaos Emeralds energy About the Artificial Chaos not being made by GUN... you're half right, as you can see on their forehead, they have a symbol, that is the logo of Project Shadow, so they were created by Gerald and the other researchers on the ARK as part of making the Ultimate Life Form, but everything they did on that project was financed by GUN and they would use those resources for them And a thing about Shadow that the game doesn't straight up tells you (the Japanese version does make it more clear though), Professor Gerald (Eggman's and Maria's Grandfather, and Shadow's creator) actually manipulated Shadow's head to remember Maria's wish as taking revange on humanity, Gerald was so mad about the GUN soldiers killing Maria to shut down Project Shadow that he lost his mind and decided to take revange on everyone, he manipulated Shadow's head to make him get revange on them for killing Maria, when Amy comes up and beg Shadow to save humanity, Shadow finally remembers Maria's true wish, so he keeps his promisse for Maria, and now for Amy too After Project Shadow was shut down, Gerald was arrested in Prison Island for continuing with the project without their permission, and then later executed, so the messages you see from him are pre-recorded from 50 years ago, and he's long gone 27:40 Oh, and that line is mistranslated, in the original version Shadow says "So he (the Biolizard) can use Chaos Control?"

the reason that sonic gives the ring to rouge is that it's one of shadow's inhibitor rings (the rings he wears) they are meant to suppress the overflow of chaos energy that runs through his body,because without those,he has difficulties using his powers and uses too much of his vital energy which can cause him to faint or even die if he forces too much on himself,and as you guessed it,this is what happens in the final boss of SA2,he took out 2 of his inhibitor rings to make the chaos control more powerful (it's not directly shown in the game that he took them out but the ring that he gives to rouge and other sources like the anime Sonic X where you can see it show it to you) and when he takes them out he can unleash immense power for a short perid of time but this tires him a lot

The Dreamcast was the last Sega console to ever be made, after this the future of Sonic and sega as a hole was undetermined, so this was intended to be the last game of the series. But then again here we are, with so many Sonic games i can barely count

Just to give you some context, Sega was definitely not doing so well in the console market especially with the PS2 just releasing at the time and Sega couldn’t compete with it (mainly due to the PS2 having DVD player capability). Sonic Adventure 2 was Sega’s last attempt and Sonic’s swan song cause there was a good chance this was his last game at the time. A lot has happened in Sega that is a whole story/mess of its own but to put it short they managed to change themselves from hardware developer to software developer. It’s honestly crazy thinking about how much has happened and changed but I’m personally happy knowing Sonic is still around.

Hey man, good luck for Heroes! I don’t know if anybody else has warned you yet: You’re VERY slippery while running in that game, and it’s easy to fall off of ledges that way. If you start sliding too much, it’s safest to jump as high as you can and center yourself on solid ground! Don’t get discouraged if you die uh… a LOT. I recently 100% the game and got all A ranks for the whole thing. Died a stupid amount of times, and I’ve played it since it came out. Itll definitely happen often, just grin and keep moving!

I played this Knuckles part a few years back. I actually rage quitted the game here and didn't return for months because I didn't know there was an air necklace. I eventually came back and beat the Knuckles section without the Air Necklace and eventually beat the game

Many people believe Shadow was meant to die here and stay dead, and it's not hard to see why the game really pushes the idea that Shadow gives his life here and everyone has time to mourn and reflect, but according to interviews they always intended to bring Shadow back (how much you trust what people say in interviews years after the fact is up to you to decide). More importantly the writers didn't know if Sonic as a series was going to continue when they made this game. This was the last game released on a Sega console and Sonic's future was very unclear. The end of Sonic Adventure 2 is the most final an ending has felt for the series, it was left open enough for the series to continue, but also if Sonic had ended there it would have been a fitting final chapter.

Some people already told you this but Shadow the Hedgehog (2005) directly follows the plot of Adventure 2 and Heroes so it should be treated like a mainline game :) Also Sonic Advance 2 introduces a character that will appear in Sonic Heroes. It's not super important tho, so if you prefer you can skip it and come back to it later like you said. Great video as always :D I'm proud of you for getting through the Knuckles water section first try and without the Air Necklace!

9:10 Those artificial chaos are the worst... what I've learned from reading online (while attempting to 100% this game) is that they will not attack as long as you are locked-on to them, so you can use that time to either rush past them, or sneak up behind them and give them the ol' *boing* (the springy fist melee attack Eggman does to enemies and power-ups directly in front of him). Otherwise... yeah, pretty much RNG

I'd definitely recommend you to try out Sonic Advance and Sonic Advance 2, mostly the second one. They are short IF you go through the game normally. But if you try to get the true ending it will be a suffering. Sonic Advance 2 requires to not only collect the Chaos Emeralds as Sonic in a very bad special stages but also beat the game as every other character, only then you're given an access to true final boss. Advance 2 is even worse since the way to get to a special stage is to collect 6 very hidden medals across the level which is close to impossible. So yeah, if you plan on check out those games, I'd recommend to find a 100% save file. This would allow you to just run through the game and face off the true final boss.

This would of been a good conclusion to your Sonic journey. For KZbinrs, things get polarizing/mixed/divided for games after SA2. Unpredictable. If you do decide to continue, would you consider a low difficulty spinoff like Sonic Advance first? Its a short, 40 minute game

That SEGA had serius issues around that time is actually correct. SEGA completely missed the step into 3D, at least with Sonic and their first 3D console (SEGA Saturn) did not sell well. After that, the SEGA Dreamcast came out with Sonic Adventure 2 as one of its last games. SEGA decided to quit making consoles, since the Dreamcast also suffered from the Saturn failure. So, SA2 was in fact a goodbye, but then SEGA started to release games as a third party developer, and the series continued...

When you play Sonic Heroes, for your own Sanity, download an Infinite lives mod and a widescreen mod. Sonic Heroes is one of my favorite Sonic games, but it's undoubtedly frustrating and repetitive. Each Character teams are like a difficulty option with Team Rose being the easiest, Team Sonic being normal and Team Dark being hard. Team Chaotix is more fetch quest than difficulty.

sorry I'm late actually watching it i didn't watch any youtube videos properly for a while but anyway yeah this was gonna be the last sonic game at one point it came out in 2001, with sega planning to fully cancel the dreamcast in 2002 they then decided to give it a gamecube port just to test (albeit a rushed one) and it made them realise they could keep the series going properly

SEGA almost went bankrupt around this time, with the sucess of the PS2, so in another timeline this could be the last Sonic game, at least the last made by SEGA and Sonic Team, so that's why the game kinda feels like a finale of the series, with the final cutscene theme being almost a funeral's theme for the Dreamcast. Thankfully, they didn't went bankrupt and became a third party for the last 20+ years, and Sonic continued since them, even though some argue it hasn't been the same since (i don't agree, but some people do).

As for the spin-offs, some of them are worth playing but perhaps do them in small bursts after a few mainline games. As an example, Sonic Adventure 1 & 2 > Sonic Advance 1 > Sonic Advance 2 Sonic Heroes & Shadow the Hedgehog > Sonic Battle > Sonic Advance 3 Sonic the Hedgehog (2006) & Sonic Unleashed > Sonic Rush > Sonic Rush Adventure (Optional Side-Series) Sonic and the Secret Rings & Sonic and the Black Knight > Sonic Riders (GameCube) > Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity (Wii) Then go back to mainline Sonic Colors & Sonic Lost World Sonic Forces & Sonic Frontiers Then play Sonic x Shadow Generations when it comes out. The Sonic story of thar game is the original Sonic Generations that came put after Sonic Colors but why play the OG first when the remake will be basically the same game.

@@Taidower Nah. He shouldn't skip Generations in its original placement. He doesn't even have to play the Sonic side of Sonic X Shadow Generations when he gets to there. He could just do the Shadow side. Though tbf, the Sonic side is short enough to replay if necessary.

And if it doesn't, he could still play the Sonic story after Colors, and the Shadow story after Frontiers. It would just be weird to skip it until later but then it only represent up to Colors. Also, going back to Pontac and Graff writing after Frontiers... Plus, Sonic Forces references Sonic Generations. You have to do Sonic Generations before Forces. (Even though Forces isn't a good game and Classic Sonic had no business being in it. But that's besides the point.

FINALLY, now I can watch the last episode of Sonic X related to Sonic Adventure 2. I think it was 38? By the way the next game should be Sonic Heroes the best way to play the game is either to emulate the game using Dolphin or by getting the pc version and installing mods with Reloaded II. Here's my advice get the mod called "Sonic Heroes Adventure" it's a mod wich rebalances the game to make every team in the game much more unique also get the controlhook mod which will make controllers usable in the game. Last but not least get every SH essential mods. And after all of that you will get the best experience.

23:20 I'm surprised that a player could get this far into the game, without realizing that the homing attack is proximity-based, and can't lock on to things that outside a certain range. I mean, it's not often that you have multiple small objects near one that you want to homing attack, or needing to use the homing attack on something below you. I feel like the game should have taught players to wait between targets when chaining homing attacks like this, in order to get within the correct proximity. You basically have to let yourself fall a little bit in order to be in range for the final homing attack, but every time you seem to do it way too early and either lock back onto a ball, or onto nothing if nothing is in range. EDIT: 23:52 I'll give you that one; that was pretty jank lmao Every other time before though, you were just being impatient, so I still wouldn't call it RNG

Mushroom Mayham? 35:30 this was SEGA's last sonic game on the last SEGA console and didn't know what they were going to do. sell sonic? retire sonic? SEGA stopped making consoles, what are they going to do now, type of thing. SEGA also couldn't see how well this game would sell, if at all. they thought and I'm paraphrasing 'if we're going to go out.... let's give it everything we got. let's make the most memorable sonic game we can.... with whatever money we have left.' (which wasn't much due to them no longer selling SEGA consoles) 38:50 as for the order of Sonic games i would recommend (after Knuckle's choatix and Advance 2 then Heroes) Sonic Battle then Advance 3 then Shadow then Sonic 06. with the Sonic x Shadow Generations Short that was recently released, there's a certain.... well.... without spoilers, Battle and THEN Advance 3 are... canon. (those games weren't considered to be full on canon, until they released that Sonic x Shadow Generations short.) Once the Sonic Games went 3D, there's a Canon Timeline of events. Like in Adventure 2, the Artifical Chaos enemies on the Ark, look like Chaos from Adventure 1 and _______ (can't say anything else cause you've only played those 2 so far). Then there's the Master Emerald Shine at the ending of Adventure 2 that looks EXACTLY like it did in Adventure 1 (there may or may not be a reason it was there in future titles.) plus Gareld Robotnik, his notes, his research, his reasonings for being on the ark, the stuff about Rouge the bat, and ...... yeah, Sega tries to tie them together with a timeline While also making each game being able to play without needed to play the previous games. But... yeah... Adventure 2 was the Turning Point. A LOT of games have details that are easy to miss. mental notes are recommend for full enjoyment 🤩

I actually kinda of like Mario Maniac. I just want to have the titles for the first/only episodes of each the Mario games to say something like "Mario Fan Plays [Insert Game]" but I want to make it clear that I am a huge fan of the Super Mario series and I already know/played many of the mainline Mario games. Then, there will be games that I never got to play due to not having the systems such as "Mario Fan Plays Super Mario Sunshine for the First Time"

I know the Shadow fanboys won't like me saying this but I don't care and that's why I'll say it anyway, Shadow should have stayed dead and I say this as someone who loves Shadow. There was no need to bring Shadow back to life after the end of Sonic Adventure 2 because Shadow's story was already complete and perfect at the end of Sonic Adventure 2. Also, the original plan for Shadow was to not bring him back to life after the end of Sonic Adventure 2 but because of Shadow's massive popularity, Sega decided to cash in on Shadow's massive popularity by bringing him back to life at the expense of artistic integrity. Shadow's awful (and, in my opinion, non-canon) spin-off game started the long Dark Age of Sonic that we only just barely escaped from 2 years ago with Sonic Frontiers.

Personally I think the best of both worlds would be to either have kept whether the Shadow we see later was the original or not unclear, or even confirm that he was an android, clone or some sort of duplicate. Sega would get to keep "Shadow" around and profit off his popularity, wouldn't have cheapened death and his sacrifice at the end of SA2, and also I just find the idea of a duplicate trying to find their own identity, while the ghosts of the original's past haunt them is compelling.

@WolforNuva Honestly, I think your idea of a clone of Shadow appearing after Sonic Adventure 2 is a good idea. That way us people that don't want the impact of Shadow's sacrifice to be cheapened are kept happy AND the Shadow fanboys who want 'Shadow' to return are also kept happy. However, if it was up to me, I would make it so that the Shadow clone somehow has all of Shadow's memories up to the moment when Shadow died so that the Shadow clone doesn't have to form new relationships with Sonic, Eggman, Rouge, etc. from scratch. Think of it as a storytelling shortcut. This storytelling shortcut would also enable the Shadow clone to keep the promise the original Shadow made to Maria to protect Earth, thereby allowing the Shadow clone to honour his memories of not only Maria, but also the original Shadow.

@@Rishi123456789 I'd be happy to keep with the amnesia route they ended up taking, because I really liked what little of it was touched on in Heroes, and Rogue wouldn't have those same doubts if he was real if he remembered everything, she would just assume he was saved. plus it helps keep Shadow and the Clone as individuals. I'd rather see the clone come to their own reason to save the earth, rather than being tied down by the memories of someone he technically never even met. Like the line Shadow gives near the end of Heroes "Even if I'm not real, I'm still the ultimate lifeform Shadow the Hedgehog" - if it was included in a game with more focus on the story it would have gone so hard. It's saying how Shadow didn't care if he was a copy anymore, he isn't interested, he's going to live as Shadow the way he wants to, he's moving forward - that's a great way to have taken his character... But Heroes had a very watered down story, and his own game undid all his progress.

@@WolforNuva I absolutely love the brother-sister type of relationship Shadow and Maria had with each other and I would want the Shadow clone to still have memories of the original Shadow's time spent with Maria that we never got to see from the original Shadow. I think the original Shadow fulfilled the dying wish of his best friend Maria to protect Earth and has now been reunited with Maria in Heaven. That said, I still want the Shadow clone to have a personality of his own that is distinct (but still similar) to the personality of the original Shadow. I want the Shadow clone to have a character arc that involves him realising that he doesn't have to compare himself to the original Shadow and compete with the legacy of the original Shadow. I want the Shadow clone to realise that even though he looks exactly the same as Shadow, has the same memories as Shadow and has the same DNA as Shadow that he still has a different soul of his own and that he is a unique being in his own right who chooses to protect Earth not because that's what the original Shadow did but simply because it's the right thing to do. One more thing, I want the Shadow clone to have some type of physical feature that makes him distinct from the original Shadow (like a scar on his face, for example) so that people can draw fan-art of the original Shadow and the Shadow clone together but be able to know which Shadow is the original Shadow and which Shadow is the clone.

"Why is this pretty hard to hit?" BECAUSE YOU ARE REAAALLY BAD AT YOUR TIMING, but that only improves once you get to know how to actually time your jumps and homming attacks, that gets a bit of time to understand it and not just rushing trough (even when you should have been aware at this point after several times playing as sonic and 2 stages whit him in the Ark), sometimes you press too early and some others you don't even wait to get enough altitude to score a hit on an enemy or weak spot, yet you again keep complaining at the game instead to your skill issue, just like when you fight the artificial Chaos, they are so simple to read since only have 2 paterns of attack and yet you keep rushing to them straight line and whitout timing their attacks that leave them wide open...
