Fun fact about Pokkén Tournament: the game is actually called Pokémon Tekken in german-speaking territories. The reason is probably the similarity between the words "Pokkén" and "Pocken", the german word for smallpox. They probably didn't want a Nintendo game, especially one connected to Pokémon, to be associated with a viral disease in any way, which is pretty hilarious.

47:28 afaik the reason this happened was because the Wii U had 2 GB of ram, and in most games, the game would take up 1GB, and OS functions would take up the other 1GB. However, with BOTW and Smash, the games were so big that they had to use the full 2GB. So, whenever the OS wanted to load any menus etc, it would have to clear all the memory. When you loaded back into the game, it had to put all that stuff back. There was also a similar thing on the OLD 3DS Models with Smash, SMM, and MK7.

But once i got my hands on the game and beated it, i was aware that it had a crap ton of problems but i wasnt afraid to say that it wasnt as bad as i thought it was gonna be. The humor, writing, art style and music all were 10/10s in my book and i even tried to go for 100% because i was pretty invested in it, though yea unfortunately it was just pulled back by the bad battle system and yea it still had the lack of originality of the first 3 games cus all the characters are just toads, petey piranha and Mario World enemies. But i was able to find some really good things about it and even dared myself to call it my favorite guilty pleasure game or favorite 6 to 7/10 game. Compared to alot of the Nintendo KZbinrs who were going out of their way and calling it trash or some even saying that its worse than Sticker Star which i think its absurd.

5:09 Actually Animal Crossing & Splatoon are handled by the same division within Nintendo (EPD 5). Which is honestly not ideal, given both franchises follow a sort of live service approach with their recent entries. Ever wondered why they stopped updating Animal Crossing New Horizons rather quickly? It's because the team had to focus on Splatoon 3. Same could be said about Super Mario Maker 2 for example, because that team (the 2D Mario team) had to focus on Super Mario Bros. Wonder.

Think one of my favorite things about Twilight Princess HD was the amiibo support; specifically for the Ganondorf amiibo since it doubles the damage Link can take from enemies. The kicker is this amiibo effect stacks with Hero mode that already doubles the damage Link takes and eliminates heart drops so you're basically playing Twilight Princess with x4 damage and limited healing options. It's surprisingly really fun after playing the original release of the game to play a version where normally minor damage is suddenly a near fatal blow; probably the closest Zelda has gotten to a Soulsborne style experience. Only downside is that every time you die and restart your save, you have to scan the amiibo again to reactivate the x4 damage even if you continue right away, which gets a little annoying if you die too much and I'm surprised no one on the dev team caught that.

No, you just watched part 3. This was it. Scott’s stash has been becoming more of the channel for quiet awhile.

The Wii U actually had a decent launch set of launch titles, like Batman, Tekken Tag 2, Black Ops 2, ....then it ended so suddenly after only 4 and half years....

You forgot the most important part about any console last years... A never ending wave of sports games (looking at you fifa 2014 on ps2).

As a Wii U owner, a very late adopter since I got mine in 2023, I enjoy it. It's modded now, since all the servers are offline, except for 1st party updates.

I remember AntDude said in his video on the Mario & Sonic Olympic games series that "Rio also had a very small print run. So it's more expensive than it has any right to be"

I have my physical copy of Shakedown Hawaii. I bought it from them on release, and only ordered it to own the last disc game. I don't even own many physical WiiU games, I mostly played digital.

Most 3rd party ports for the Wii U released in 2012 and 2013 were the best console versions at the time. The real problem was that they weren't that much better than the versions released on the 6+ year old PS3/360.

The thing with Star Fox Guard was that it was a separate purchase from Zero in the eShop. So Zero was like 50 bucks alone and Guard was like 20. If you bought one then you would get 10 bucks off the other.

Shakedown Hawaii was supposed to also get a physical Wii version alongside the physical Wii version of Retro City Rampage in the over here, but as you stated NOA didn't want to print out Wii discs for the game, so Shakedown Hawaii on Wii was limited to PAL. It's unfortunate, since Shakedown Hawaii was never on Wii prior, and would've been a cool release over here. At least the Wii version supports 60hz, so you can still play it on most US displays.

There is another case I can think of like Just Dance of a game releasing in one generation and the succesor of the succesor, but not the middle one, and that is a Sega game called Wakku Wakku Animals, which released on Master System and Saturn but no Genesis, since it was a Tetris style puzzle game made for arcades and Saturn that Sega also made a handheld version for the Game Gear, since those games work well on a handheld, but saw no point on porting it to the Genesis by that point, however then Tec Toy took the GG code and officially and lazily ported it to the Master Sytem only in Brazil.

19:05 SFV famously kind of crashed in sales right after launch when people realized how anemic it was for $60. Pokken did sell well, but it may not have been THAT hard to outsell SFV in April 2016.

The Wii U was just such a weird thing for me, like it felt like many things came out a long time before the switch even when it was only like a year or two, well I guess this makes sense because as you get older a year feels shorter and shorter as it becomes a shorter part of your overall life, so being around 6 when I got Mario maker, it somewhat makes sense why it felt like it was years before the switch.

In 2001, we also got Paper Mario, Mario Party 3, Pokemon Stadium 2 and Conker's Bad Fur Day. But yeah, the Nintendo 64 didn't have a lot of titles in the final years of the console lifespan. But the ones we did get were pretty darn good. On that note, yeah the Wii U was on its deathbed by the time 2016 came around. That said, I still really loved the Wii U. It has what is hands down the absolutely best Virtual Console library out of the Wii, 3DS and Switch. It was how I got to play classics like Metroid Fusion and Metroid Zero Mission. And it did have some great games as well. Just not in the later years.

2016 was abysmal for the Wii U & Nintendo in general. I know many people considered 2015 to be more disappointed and that's understandable. But at least that year gave us some banger games like Splatoon, Mario Maker & Yoshi's Wolly World. 2016 barely has anything that's remotely good. Either they were mediocre like Color Splash & Pokken or just plain bad like Rio 2016 & Star Fox Zero. Even the 3DS have some hit & miss games. With the only exception being Kirby: Planet Robobot; which is one of the best games I've ever played.

Pokemon with Tekken characters as trainers, who could tag team fight would have been interesting. Thanks for the videos!!!
