What Jere said was true, he probably just shouldn’t have said it to him because Conrad and Belly’s relationship wasn’t any of his business. But the reason why this isn’t as “cruel” as what Conrad said, is because he had a reason. Jere didn’t just bring this up out of nowhere. Conrad acted like he was in charge of everything and like Belly and Jere were babies; and immediately said no without even trying to have a conversation about it. Obviously there’s resentment against Conrad. What I’m trying to say is there was reason. Even if what Jere said wasn’t nice, there was motive. With Conrad, he literally just started bringing up random things to make Jere seem less than. “Look Belly, Jere can’t get into an Ivy and he has a hugeeee body count. Choose me instead!” My point is this shows how Conrad views his brother and shows Conrad’s beliefs in general. Jere isn’t perfect but Conrad DEFINITELY isn’t either

I think knowing how the book series ends gives us an unconscious bias towards rooting for the endgame (Bonrad), but if we ignore that information then we'd see how Jeremiah is the better choice in so many ways. Jere is always there for her, willing to sacrifice his own feelings/happiness for her, consistent, communicates, defends her and is her best friend. Yes, Conrad may love her but that's irrelevant when he constantly hurts her. Friends to lovers is a superior romantic trope and much more realistic than the whole hopeless romantic act which becomes exhausting and toxic. Also, a lot of Belly's feelings for Conrad stem from the infatuation of her crush finally liking her back but feelings fluctuate and end of the day its who brings out the best in you and that's Jere. The last book completely ruined Jeremiah's character so that Bonrad could be endgame and it reinforces a horrible pattern of refusing to let go of your past. Both belly and Conrad led people on first season and was willing to cheat when they almost kissed before Jere stopped it with fireworks. Jere never did that so him "cheating" is outta no where. And if Conrad truly loved Belly he'd let her go and give her the chance to come back on her own. He always makes things so messy. Tired of people making excuses for his behavior as if it wasn't Jeremiah's mom too. Jere deserves better than all of this tbh.

I’m actually happy that it’s different from the books cause I think the show is 100% better than the books! They fleshed out so many characters on the show compared to the books. I can’t wait to see what they change for season 3!

The cast has already said s3 will be most like the books and Jenny made it clear her priority is giving the book readers all the storylines and scenes they wanted to see come to life. But even without those interviews Jenny cemented Conrad & Belly as endgame in this episode the minute laurel dropped the letters and Susannah mixed them up. Jeremiah getting Conrad’s letter from their mom in book 3 was a game changing moment in the love triangle and Jenny just foreshadowed it.
