The music made the scene so sad because it echoed her feelings of saying goodbye forever to the man she no longer loved, that she had made her peace with all that had happened in her life and she was ready to go. She was so gracious to him in her final goodbye that this scene made me cry 😢.

Even in this episode I never felt sorry for the emperor. He should have been wiser. He knew Ruyi before everyone and yet he doubted her to the point where he disrespected her. Really sad

Agree, although to be fair the English translation on this is not good in fact terrible. But agree the two people who were most loyal to him. He treated so badly. He always took the side of everyone else but the ones he should have listened too. In the end he lost everything. As the Empress Dowager said, you will regret.... it was not until it was too late that he understood what his mother meant. In this I actually liked the Empress Dowager. She was tough and no nonsense. But she also knew. In lots of ways she protected Ruyi far more than she let on or would admit too. In the end though, the Emperor done enough to destroy even a deep seated love that Ruyi had for him..... It was sad to see all throughout the episodes her love for him constantly getting knocked back... until it was eventually lost forever. You just wanted to take the Emperor and shake him saying wake up look what is in front of you!!!! stop listening to the baseless rumors instead listen to those who wont lie to you.

@@nzcyclone exactly. He annoyed me. It’s a wonderful series but that emperor is stupid. He knew the queen never liked Ruyi. But whenever someone needed to talk sense into him, they get Ruyi. So many people died because of his stupidity. He even denied Ruyi to say goodbye to her son whom she raised with her friend

That's the crap that pisses me off. Everyone else were strangers but everyone in the palace knew Ruyi as a child. The emperor especially so since they grew up together. That boy was trash and is the reason why so many were able to be killed so easily. If it weren't for the empress dowager being the 1st emperor's ear spilling hate against Ruyi because of her aunt. Ruyi would've been the empress and I guarantee you the deaths wouldn't have been so many. The children wouldn't feel any ways about favor and being adequately loved because Ruyi would've sincerely loved and protected them all. I'm not saying we would've had the same empress as what she became due to being constantly attacked and framed, but still better.

I hated this Emperor in this drama, he repeatedly mistreated Ruyi , he often believed others above her yet she was one of the very few who was truly loyal too him, and she was probably the only woman who truly loved him without motive or conditions attached, she also cared deeply for many of the other concubines and their children. She wasn’t scheming or trying to get favour, she was utterly let down by the emperor who was just a disgusting man who had far too many women!!!. Karma got him because he lost Ruyis love, he lost Ruyi when she was still young and he lived on for many more years in regret!
