Skill discrimination is not a good thing because it shows the player doesn't like competing which is the main selling point in every PvP game and sport. Your favorite sports team doesn't get the choice of who they'll compete against no matter how much they might suck or their opponent may suck. Having the chance to compete against the top players is a good thing. Can learn from them and it helps with not getting comfortable with doing things that don't work out well in the game. Over time you'll find yourself playing the game better by doing this. It's like removing all the large plates in your kitchen for small plates to cut down on how much you'll take to eat at a time. Everyone can be a top player if they're willing to compete against everyone without discrimination. High ranking players shouldn't discriminate the players that are being seal clubbed. They may get better to offer that nail biting experience and they're here to enjoy the game like everyone else except for cheaters. A variety of players competing is a fun experience to see how they deal with the same situation. When skill is filtered or be made the same the unexpected is less likely to happen causing the dreaded meta talk to show up instead of focusing on the players that play the game. Variety is good to shake up linear prediction which happens in all games with less feature complexity/depth/simulation/RL sports. Cheaters are not. GG

I want to say you are totally not alone on this problem and high rank players also really unhappy about ranked situation right now, since games are just too ez most of times and its basically becomes boring grind of playtime, instead of competing, hopefully embark will see this video and understand that this is actually equally harmful for all kind of players in ranked. (top 100 btw as if it even matters since lb is just hours)

I'm stuck on silver 1 for like 2 weeks, it feels like my team is the only team on the tournament consist of randoms (I solo Q). all other teams consists of HHM or MMH, playing like they sit on discord toghether and we get steamrolled most of the time.

As far as I know, the Fame points you gain/lose doesn't depend on the skill level of the opponents you face, only on what placement you end up at (correct me if I'm wrong). This means that your rank in-game has nothing to do with your actual Elo rating. Diamond players will get the same amount of Fame regardless if they stomp a bunch of bronze players or win against other diamonds. This in combination with losses not being very punishing means that if you keep a 50% win rate you will climb in rank, even though your hidden Elo rating will stay in place. I could see this leading to diamond players having the same Elo rating as bronze players, just because they've played the game a lot, and then the match making system considers them equally skilled. So ranks could be a bit deceiving. With that said I do agree that the game still puts people of various skill in the same game. It's so random what kind of teammates I get. Sometimes I get really good people running meta equipment, sometimes I get 2 light players just trolling. The lack of a solo queue makes it very frustrating to play ranked when you don't have others to play with.

The ranked games stay about the same throughout the season so it’s basically tournament with ranked points attached. To me this isn’t the worst because it makes me feel better about myself(I don’t know if I’m good or bad) but I think they should definitely make it into a simple same ranked players vs same rank

Even with friends, its very hard to win, Ive noticed that even in the silver level the players are all quite competent. I usually have like a 2-4 kd in a unranked match, and in ranked I rarely go above a 1.

​@@haveproblemz545you're likely not fighting silvers. As this video demonstrates, you could be fighting anyone, diamond and top 100. The game makes no effort in matchmaking to organize players by ranking, it just shoves everyone into a lobby.

The ONLY acceptable time sbmm needs to be used is during ranked matches. Its game-ruining when its used in casual but its also game-ruining when its NOT used in ranked. (Edit I'm silly I meant casual games shouldn't use sbmm and ranked games should show sbmm as actual rank)

I have heard/seen pro and non pro alike apex players complaining about sbmm being implemented in ranked. Let me explain. When you say sbmm about ranked you mean (correct me if im wrong) matching players based on their RANK. Thats great and I agree. Now in apex they match you based on your sbmm hiden elo skill ranking. So if you just so happen to pick up shooters fast and you start out in bronze, the system recognizes your skill and puts you up against top tier players/squads so ranking up is near impossible and the grind to get to that rank is kind of pointless at that point since your already in those lobbies just without the rank. PS. I don't play apex just saw a pro make a video about this the other day and heard it from some friends as well.

FYI the devs removed the ability to see the enemies rank at the end of the match in the latest patch. Probably because they know that this "ranked" system is total bs and trying to hide it from us. I doubt there will be a change this season.

I’ll tell you what. This team of developers has not been impressive in the least in terms of communication especially when they’re trying to showcase their biggest competitive product. The lack of transparency when being matched alongside the cheating problem with tricking inputs is so out of hand and they have yet to respond to anything. This also happens in normal matches. When I first played this game I got SMASHED. Most of the matches I played (no rank) only one team actually got money. This is really unfair to me since now it’s just a waste of time to play the game because you already know ur gonna lose. I hope they fix it.

Personally whenever I meet a very op team, I will evade them and just go for the other cashout, and even try my best to sabotage them (like when my teams win is secured, I help another team with attacking that op team). I often succeed and it's a very rewarding feeling preventing such a team from winning.

Yesterday me and my friends joined a tournament after like 2 days of not playing, and we were amazed by how we were getting destroyed by our opponents, like literally you peak for 1-2seconds and get lasered. We were joking around and saying that we feel rusty but in reality this is what happened, the level of the lobby was too high for us to play against and we stood no chance. Thanks for making such video and explaining also proofing that matchmaking might not be working 100% as this makes it feel a little better knowing its not our " Skill " level, while I do not claim of being any good player but a decent casual who likes competitive/ranked to which I enjoy a good challenge but not a total demolish

I agree with you. I am D2 now and I usually win most of my games when I play with "main squad". We even win against these top500 players sometimes, today we won against WooZ_fps for example and he is rank #9. I will grind to D1 but after that there is no chance for me to reach top500 because it's only about who plays the most and what about the "good" players that has a job or studies. I hope they change it otherwise I will not keep playing the game longterm and that's sad because the game itself is sooo fun.

My comp team have multiple times faced players that were top 100 including the #1 player, even back when we were in silver. We still made it to Diamond, most of the top players aren't even that good they just play a LOT and have consistant premade teams. Honestly ranks in this game are kinda useless since you hardly lose anything for losing the first match and if you make it through at least that one you get positive. Obviously most players have to play solo, but the ranks in this game are mostly just time played even if it's slower when you don't win the full tourney.

The issue will not be with a lack of lower ranked players for fair match making, but there not being enough high ranked players, so either they sacrifice some lower ranked players, or the high ranked players will have slow matchmaking. This is an issue in every game that has a ranked mode without bots.

So the point behind sbmm is to match players based on how good they are so that you find matches are competitive and fair which is particularly beneficial for newer or not so good players who want to have fun. In ranked your matchmaking should be based purely on what rank you are, bronze, silver, gold etc... but currently it's just putting everyone together in one pot. Which isn't a good satisfying experience, because games are often too hard and feel unwinnable, or too easy and not a challenge.

I couldn't agree more. I'm silver 4 and holy hell it feels IMPOSSIBLE to win most of the time. Some players are just next level insane and you really don't stand a chance. I'm a very average player, maybe slightly above average but I don't see myself getting out of silver because the games feel so incredibly hard

my group of 3 are all top 500 and we have started going triple sniper or all using medium shotguns and random load outs to make it more fun and handicap ourselves. today we played for 4 or 5 hours and won every single tournament we played with ease except for around 4 or 5 teams that were around our rank.

You aren't crazy, I had this same problem when I was playing solo queue. I remember I had a game where it put me in with A_Seagull and a bunch of other top rated players (this is when I was in silver) and both my team mates were bronze 4's. Since then I've only done ranked with a full squad, and that seems to always put us in more favourable lobbies. I'm now Gold 1, almost plat and we usually get either lobbies that feel fair or ones where we are doing the stomping (at least in round 1). As someone who typically plays games solo I get that saying the solution is to party up sucks (this is actually the first game I've ever had a dedicated group that I play with multiple times a week) but at the moment as far as I can see this is the only solution for this problem. I really do agree that Embark needs to get on this ASAP, and I do think that you are right - this problem will burn the casuals out and they'll head back to Fortnite or Valorant or something. Which is a shame as this is the most fun I've had with a game since season 1 of Overwatch.

I’m silver 4 and have been for days. I’ll play with people that are bronze on my team or my friends are all silver and we would go against diamond and platinum player every single game. We played 10 ranked games and lost every game due to unbalanced ranks

I never play ranked in any game I’ve ever played. And in every other game other than the finals, that kept taking itself so seriously in the player base just kept taking everything so competitively. To the point where even casual party games or casual arcade games or slow game modes that were made to be enjoyable and not to be taken seriously. Became very toxic competitive and an fun to play. The finals however. Is the first semicompetitive action team based game, that I find incredibly enjoyable to play for every moment of the game regardless of how badly I’m being destroyed or how badly we are losing. Because it’s far more enjoyable to just mess about in the game and then to care about winning. And often times because of how the game is designed it somehow reward you for just enjoying yourself are more than it does for playing to win. Which is why I’m staying very far away from any form of ranked competitive mode. Because I know trying to take it seriously and trying to focus on just winning is going to make the fun fadeaway

Looking at the bright side: a lot of players (me included) prefer to get to know the game in casual play for a bit before diving into ranked. I grew up connecting to servers without any gatekeep to prevent different types of players from interacting with each other. Sometimes you get a lobby that is stacked, sometimes you don't. I prefer it and it helps me to strive to improve at the game and learn from my competition. Rank means nothing in this game, everyone can get Diamond if they just grind.

It has its own struggles, but it feels awkward to me to be in a neverending echo chamber of sameness This is by no means the default reaction, it's just how I felt sometimes. I love to play against noobs, and to play against people far better than me. I like seeing those differences while I'm playing the game. i feel like the reason why they haven't made ranked tourny based on players actual rank is cause of the game only being recently out for like about a month now. for skilled players that quickly rose to top placements if there was a rank matchmade their times for matchmaking would be pretty long. Since the game is season battle pass time frame im guessing their original plan was to role out the actual rank matchmade in the next season but with how well the game is currently goin I see rank matchmade being pushed mid season (with in a month of this post). Though im just speculating. my guess is like how Halo infinite did theirs rank. free to play, rank is based on points to accumulate, matchmade was not actually based on rank. infinte didn't put out their patch till 2 months into the game so it might be the same with the Finals.

I feel like the biggest issue with ranked has to do with the majority of the playerbase still only playing The Finals for a fun time with friends. When you lkay ranked its literally only the people who are 3 stacked and actually trying to win. If they put more incentive to win ranked tournaments like exclusive cosmetics or double xp or soemthing i feel like youd get a higher number of players going towards ranked tournament

There is exclusive rewards for playing ranked. You get to diamond I think it is and you gain a weapon camo other rewwards to but I cannot remember of the top of my head.

my threestack had the same experience. we've played a bit of ranked and just got absolutely clowned on by clearly way more experienced teams and we usually do well in unranked tournaments or casual. I gues the hidden elo probably counts into the ranke system aswell leading to people that do well in casual having to fight against people that mainly play competitive with roughtly the same time in the game.

i feel like whats broken is the cloak ability, being able to come in cloaked and double barrel someone and go right back to cloak with no cooldown to reload is just wild

agree. what they need to do is 1) make the cloaking take longer to turn invisible, like a phasing away kind of thing that happens over a full second. 2) when you are invisible, you have nothing in your hands. then they need to add a slow-ish animation to pull out your weapon after coming out of invis so you can't just shoot yourself out of invis. you have to pull out your gun first. which will take time. After that though, you have to buff light because its objectively the weakest class right now, even with its stupid ass broken shit. So you cannot nerf that and not buff it in some other way. I think 25hp would go a long way, but idk. gotta be careful with buffing it too much.

The Light's Cloak ability is not really broken as you think it is. Lights get pretty much one shotted by anything (Heavy's RPG, Hammer, C4s) and you can basically kill a light with like a chair or something. What's broken is the Sword in ny opinion.

.​@@Masoch1st light needs his other abilities to be better. Grapple needs 2 or even 3 charges and increased range and dashes should fill up faster. They should also increase aim down sight movement speed and strafe speed instead of adding 25hp.

Cloak isn’t a problem. Run sonar and a heavy and play with your tank. Double barrel has a longer reload nerf meaning if they don’t kill. They’re dead against good players. Cloak isn’t a problem in ranked

I am glad I have not hopped into Ranked yet. My squad would at best be SIlver for the time being. I can't imagine trying to climb out of Bronze when going against Plat and Diamond players each round.

Completely agree, ranked is completely messed up. In tourney I drop crazy high kill games and win well with my team then ranked is exactly how you describe whereas bronze should in theory should be relaxed for us. Will definitely look people up from now.

It's not just ranked that's like this. The SBMM I think in general has broken or it is in need of a tune-up. Made a brand new account to do an unranked to diamond playthrough and the 3rd game matchmaking decides to put me with people who are wearing the battlepass level 96 cosmetic... meaning it's people who have been playing for about a month or so. So there are brand new players coming in getting matched up with people with way more experience... And no I didn't go crazy with kills, most kills I got in my first 2 games was like 4 lmao I was just going revolver messing around until the 60 games are up for me to play ranked. So casual quick plays are bad as well.

I average 1 win a day at most out of 10 to 15 matches the rest I'm losing hard, I get the cash box and bank it around 2/4 times per match and get about 25/35 kills all in by the end. Seems pretty impossible to rank up I'm at silver 2 still. Also, unpopular opinion but a ttk rebalance needs to be looked at, maybe lowering the ttk by 0.4 ms/0.8 meaning 1 to 3 bullets less to kill across the board on all weapons including a larger headshot multiplier making heavies an easy kill if you get the jump on them, lets face it they run around like they own the place for a reason.

Lol 10 seconds into the video I could tell your team was gonna get railed regardless of the skill/rank of the enemies. No heavy, no healer + a light and you could only solve one of those issues yourself... and you decided to do neither. This game will die because there's no role queue, making soloing impossible. Game is 100% reliant on a real team comp and if you don't get one, you're better off just jumping off the map. I refused to play ranked because nearly every game in the unranked tournament mode, I'd get double lights or useless turret players and almost never a healer (I played heavy). I couldn't leave the game without a 30m penalty, so I'd be stuck playing a match that I had no chance of winning (unless the enemies were trolling, too or just terrible). Made me uninstall.

This explains why I prefer quick play. I have never played a game where I do not play ranked but for some reason I have found myself just smashing quick play and then 1 or 2 ranked games until I meet gods and go back to quick

As a gold player, i agree. and its not because i cant climb. i'm going to. but the points requirements are absolutely ABSURD unless you just win most of your tourneys. Its exponential. You need something like 9k to hit plat, and idek how much for dia but its high high.

Even in quick cash the mm feels kinda weird.. for example whenever i see one of the other sweats from my friendlist come online and we dont queue together... 100% we will get into the same lobby after just a couple matches... happens everytime... and also other players i fight the same people over and over and over again... thats just weird as it doesnt happen like that in any other game ive player before.. at least not in such an amount that i notice it

The game is so fun I don’t even play ranked, all 80 hours of the game I played quick cash and unranked tournaments. In games like LoL or CS playing unranked becomes boring, but in Battlefield and the Finals you forget about ranks and numbers, you just enjoy the gameplay, maybe that’s why the ranked is lacking players of similar rank.

They do what lots of games do. They match players together based on there hidden mmr. And if you play good in pubs it might boost your hidden mmr past where it should be so when you go into ranked you get rinsed

I never solo cue ranked.... in one month I played only 2 ranked tournamens (and finished 2nd & 1st). I guess I'm not the only one. It can explain the problem with SBMM You're talking about.

for me I have the opposite feelings, playing ranked at bronze 5 felt easy and it just hasn't gotten harder at any point as I've ranked up, making it feel like ranks are only based on playtime and nothing else. I've beaten diamond players regularly despite being only gold so far and it feels unsatisfying knowing that the only reason I'm not a higher rank is because I've been really busy since launch. Every play session I've had my rank has gone up so it just doesn't feel good climbing knowing I'm probably just beating up bronze players every first round

I have experienced the same thing online. Me and my friend had a really great time the first 2/3 weeks on the finals. But lately our lobbies are so extremely hard and sweaty that we decided we should move to ranked play. Since in ranked we start at the bottom so our components should be more easy right? Well not really they only got worse and this was my first time playing ranked. In like 10 matches we managed to qualify a few times by some luck but this game is already starting to feel more like warzone 2 were the first few games feel very natural and you win some you lose some but the competition feels fair. But then at a certain point the SBMM just starts putting you in these diamond lobbies and the whole "casual gameplay" is totally gone. And this is even in normal tournemants.

Wonderfull video! One thing that i notice is that, you ONLY win games if you GOT first place. Second place? It consider a Lost. Third place? Lost. This kinda sucks. Takes of my feel of progressing, EVERY TIME I SEE MY PROFILE, its just a catastrophy. Latelly i think the more i play, more hardcore players get into my matches and DESTROY everything. There is no balance, i mean, i feel like im playing with cod players, and that scares me, its supose to be fun, not frustrating to play. Oh and its nice to analyse that here in Brazil, we dont have top tier PCs, a lot of us run The finals with difficulty, extreme low specs, 800x600, just to get more 3 or 4 fps, so that is no WAY to counter fight some people, i love ranked matches but i dont have patience for ranked in the finals.

I loath SBMM in normal matchmaking but i find it not as ridiculous as other games, its still got to the point i cant play with my friends because im better though. I went on a 5 win streak with me and a buddy light build though 😂 I haven't bothered with ranked because of these issues you've addressed, having SBMM in both makes it pointless.

same problem here I played 4 games yesterday with my friends (all Bronze 4/3) and we got completelly destroyed from all the enemys. Only in the last game we really thought like thats a more Broze isch lobby. I dont know exactly if the enemys were just higher rank or if they cheated because I already met like one or two enemys whos shots connected each time on extreamly high ranges.
