@Perxcr Fully right! I would for sure give up the "comfort" of a full time 9-5 job for a few years to live out the dream of being a pro athlete during that time, knowing that I could always work a regular job once I was done playing. Too many people take the safe route right away without ever having given themselves a chance to make it pro. And it's a shame, because more people could make it pro than do. They just don't want it enough to try in the right way. Again this applies to any sport, not just soccer/football.

A lot of mediocre players are very dedicated and hardworking often even more so than the stars of the team... Pro football teams aren´t charity businesses, players must perform. It´s one thing to train hard but you need to win trust from the trainer so you can get play time and during play time you have to perform up to expectations. It´s really unfair sometimes because you can be benched just because the trainer doesn´t like your style of playing (eventhough you´re a very good player) or just dislikes your personality...

Harsh reality that a lot of people aren't willing to accept. That was definitely me a couple years ago. I know the mindset of a lot of athletes is that if I train hard and eat good I'll become a pro, but the sad reality is that there's athletes out there who have crazy good genetics and will still perform better than you, even though they're lazy and eat nothing but fast food. Whenever people would ask me if I had a back up plan, I would get offended cause I felt like they were saying that I wasn't good enough to be pro. I wasn't haha, but my ego got in the way which is the best way to waste away the precious time we all have alive. My advice would be to do a reality check, which will feel like you're being punched in the mouth, and ask yourself if you actually see yourself at the pro level. I felt horrible for about a couple days, but when I started pursuing design I really felt hopeful for my new business and future. Wish y'all the best!

But I think the kids take this too serious and train like 3 hours everyday. It is good to have this attitude. But I wittnessed it by myself it is not good to train too much and don't take breaks. So true 🔥 like I live in South Africa and $1000 does go a longer way this side than in the US. For example a yearly salary of $120 000,00 is equal to R1 815 508,80 a year (7 December 2020) and that here is alot of money you a millionaire and you live very very comfortably. Where as in the US you dont love that millionaire lifestyle. Our highest paid player in South Africa earns about R10 million a year which is $661 682,00 which is still alot even in the US but in south Africa that's a salary which you can easily retire off from without ever Working again, if invested well because our cost of living is much lower than that side in the US. And our average monthly pay this side is between R100 and R120 thousand a month which is between $6 615,97 and $7939,82 a month. And footballers here in South Africa drive crazy expensive cars and have big houses they are, at the top level, basically set for life if they smart about their money. But again the cost of living here is much lower I'm sure if Matt came this side he would become a millionaire 😅 Anyways thought I should just share Really love your videos Matt keep it up.

In fact that's more than all other sports combined. At least in association football there are lower leagues that are fully professional, this is not the case in many sports. My point is, you rock for being a professional footballer, and that pursuit of a pro soccer career is still a viable path with many possible outcomes. Just looking at this today and honestly I knew the reality of finances in football. Similarly, I was not able to make it to the top tier, or even he middle tier... so now I rely on Semi-Professional leagues to make some extra cash while pursuing my PhD (fully funded scholarship). I can't let go of the idea since I was pro for a few years... However, it really didn't work out for me. So i opted for the academic path that is possibly a little more stable. Its a hard pill to swallow because football is everything to me still. I'm from Trinidad and Tobago and I had to venture to many places worldwide to ply my trade and I'm currently in Asia so that explains the difficulties. I've found a better avenue through Professional and Semi-Pro Futsal that has financial plaudits but its not entirely sustainable to just 'RETIRE'. Anyway, great video as it would allow young players the opportunity to understand that its not all glimmer and gold. Don't give up though. There are many more opportunities for younger players now to make a name for themselves. Good Job Matt.

The Dune film part 1 (2021) was great, looking forward to part 2. I was going to read the book but thought I'd wait till after seen the full thing.

He's absolutely right. Lemme put this into perspective. The salary base of Europe's top five league goes like this. Premier league>Serie A> La Liga = Bundesliga>Ligue 1. The average starting player in La liga makes around 400k-700k a year(which are usually players who are also good enough to get into some world cup national teams' starting lineup), and the average starting player from the division below makes half of that or sometimes even less, and this is the salary of a country that has one of the best leagues in the world, which means the level of US' first division might not even be on the level of Spain's second division. If you consider things this way, it is pretty natural that pros don't make as much as you think they do, which is shocking due to the amount of work they put in and our perception of the large sum of money we think they make.

Q & A: What is, from your standpoint, the biggest regret of your career and why? What is the best/bravest decision (one that the majority of players might neglect or be scared to make) you have made throughout your career and why?

24:11 to 25:11 Agree with this 1000%. Do what you desire to do and dream of being and you will be fulfilled. So many people want to have a safe life with a very good income and years later they find themselves thinking about what they could have become if they followed their dream and worked hard for it. Remember you only live once so make the most of it.

Great content. This is the reason I play on a semi pro team. For me to make the leap to pro football.. I would have to be a starter in the Premier League, La Liga, or Serie A with a long contract to make it financially worth it compared to my income sources currently.

How much are you making as a semi pro player?
@nilo725944 жыл бұрын
Very true! I’ve had multiple family member played for the reserves of pro teams in Peru some even getting called to the u-21 and u-23 national teams and they would only get about $300-600 dollars a month. I mean currency does triple over there but it is still a low salary. Most of them left and continued their education or opened businesses. Only one of them who was on the pro team that made history and won international trophies against River Plate and Boca Juniors made enough to retire comfortably but even then he used that money to open businesses.

Q&A: How was your childhood going in soccer? Were you one of those who were really good at the start or was it starting gradualy?
@CoachXaviPerformance4 жыл бұрын
From watching his videos before, he said that he wasn’t the best until very late in his soccer career. At like 15 years old, he started to train a lot more seriously and often, so he slowly became better and better. He started to be really good late in high school and beginning of college. (Talent to become a professional soccer player)

Not sure if it was mentioned in this video, but for those of you watching his training session with the ball(s). Those are premium footballs (soccer balls). Do yourself a favor and buy quality balls. It matters to your touch and the way you strike the ball.

@@ricardoencarnacion9350 yes but your motivation shouldnt come from money, it should come from some goal that isnt material because material objects get you only so far in terms of happiness. im defenitly not downplaying moneys importance in life but thats a bad goal to set
@pokerface68864 жыл бұрын
@@BerserkbeanYT true and if you are playing the sport you love and doing well the money will come in anyway so doing it for passion should be the priority. Money is basically a tool to make you comfortable and give you more opportunities to get better
