Welcome to American Motors Day for our 115th episode of Coffee Walk!
I think my team unearthed two of the best, rarest, finest and coolest American Motors cars ever built and I can't wait to hear what y'all think about them!
If you could only take 1 rip (a hell of a choice to make, I know), which car would you choose and why? The 1969 MC AMX SS (Jimmy Walker car) OR the 1973 Javelin AMX- Paul Cardin Edition?

My friend wanted a fast car back in the 1980s. So I talked my neighbor into selling him his 1969 AMX that had a rebuilt engine all the body work was done so we took it for a test drive my friend was in the back laying down on the floor because they came with no back seat and the owner was sitting in passenger seat he was to damn scared to move and my friend was crying that was one wicked car.my friend bought the car but it was too much for him and so my best friend bought it and raced it on the track untill je totaled it out. I had a lot of fun driving it. I can't remember what motor I believe it was the 343 or 390.

Dennis, thank you for saving those two rare cars, I owned one of the 52 cars and would still own it, but, life got in the way. Those AMX's also came with no rear seat and an aluminum hood. they were originally 1968 cars, but the factory wanted us to keep racing them so they sent us new front fenders, dashboard and seats in 1969, 1970, and 1972 to keep them current. It was the best race car I ever owned AND YES, IT WAS BADASS

Every time I see an AMX I remember the commercial for them. The son brings it home and dad saying "There's no back seat!" It was an extremely cool time for cars. Saw AARP 'Cuda's at the dealership in '71 when dad took us shopping for a new car. Ended up with a Satellite Sebring Plus, because "Family" but Dad took me out and ran it up to 140 to "Clean the plugs". Things I'll never forget.

Dennis, glad that you have an appreciation for the Javelin AMX, what it accomplished in NASCAR and TRANS AM racing under Penske and they're rarity. I am the original owner of a 1972 Javelin AMX 401 that has some rare features. Mine when you start it up (all stock) sounds just like your '73. Since new, I have never seen many on the road and not one month went by when I drove it daily that someone didn't stop me on the road to ask about it. Its a wonderfully built car, have had ZERO problems with it, and its a joy to tune up. The AMC engine is excellent, but AMC knew when to add those components hot rodders back in the day wanted, ie. a Delco distributor, Chyrsler torqflite or Borg Warner 4spd transmission, Kelsy-Hayes wheels and disc brakes, Hurst shifter and a MotorCraft 4300 carb used on the Shelby Mustang. My buddies back in high school were swapping in those parts to there Chevys, Fords and Mopars, while the Javelin AMX had it straight from the factory, all tuned in. My '72 AMX is a joy to own, drive or just to look at its amazing shape. Alabama state troopers chose them as police interceptors for good reason. Enjoyed your video and thanks, will become a subscribers. BTW, Richard Rawlings stays away from AMC, he says "Good luck finding parts". Though its a rare car, restoring and keeping a Javelin AMX running has never been a problem, "look and yee shall find", plenty of websites. Scott Johnkins

Dennis , you have good taste . A friend of mine sold me a 69 javelin with a 390 which of course I played with . Carbureted intake cam gears . I lived in the Washington DC area and I race that capital . Maryland international Raceway . Which was then called something else Buds Creek. But for the day the car ran pretty good . Ran the low 13's . Street driven car . Then to friends of mine and I bought a hurst AMX in Syracuse New York completely bone stock . We decided to race it . It would only run in the low 11's . So we bought the mother of all AMX . We bought Pete Peterson's record holding Pete's patriot. We repainted it so no one would know what it was . It ran 10:70s easily . I then worked for champion spark Plug company . The zone office for American motors was in McLean Virginia . They would not sponsor us . But they gave us engines transmissions and gears . We had to put a dealerships name on the car that they had just opened in Maryland . It was Also sponsored by Pete Mendez the speed shop , champion spark plugs and Monroe shock absorbers . The two cars were owned by three people I was one of them . Of course we split up . One guy bought us out . And I went to boat drag racing . Petes patriot would be priceless if you could find it. It won the national's when pet Peterson owned it. He lived in Kearny Nebraska . We bought the car directly from him . The last I knew o the car it was in Panama City Florida . Surely Shehand , had one of them , Pete Peterson , and the guy that had one a painted like a zebra . Ray winery . He went 10:40s for the day that was really fast because they didn't have good tires . And you were not allowed to run big tires and super S/C . I love these cars . Crane did all the cylinder head work for four hurst on these cars .They also came with Shafer clutch assembly Borg Warner super T 10 four-speed and of course a hurst shifter. I do have some pictures but not many . I was back in the 70s . If you have an email address I will forward them to you . Those javelins handles so damn well on the street you cannot believe it .

Dennis, Way back in 1976 I worked for Marty Rubenstein owner of Marty R's AMC on Garland road, Garland TX. I started out as a porter and worked my way into the parts department. Occasionally one of the "cool" AMC cars would come through the shop. One of my favorites was a Mark Donohue Special in dark blue. It was bought there new by an airline stewardess. Aside from the paint being in poor shape due to it's being parked outside for long periods of time, it was immaculate. Very low miles as would be expected. One of the long time mechanics there, (Charlie Warden) drove a gold '69 AMX needless to say it was perfect. We also had a little old lady that brought her car in for service every 3 months. She drove a '57 Rambler Ambassador in pink. Dallas PD also used AMC's those to had the 401. Me ? I drove a silver with blue striping '73 Gremiln X Levis. Enjoy your channel, all the best...

When it was delivered, we installed the factory Crane cam kit, headers and dual exhaust for an AMX (same floor pan)! It sounded much like your '73 Javelin! I also ordered factory 4:44.1 rear gears but neve installed them. It was a quick little beast but that cam was way too much for the cubic inches and it tended to run a little rich. Sure wish I had it back. The next year the offered the 343 in the American and I was pissed! Thanks for letting us see these two AMC's

Love it. I grew up in Pa in the 70's. I remember the walker. Thanks for the memories. My dad had a 68 Javelin 390. I admire your passion and knowledge for American muscle. Awesome cars 😍 Nice suit too 🇺🇸

Nice cars, a recent post too. I have always been an AMC fan mainly the AMX and Javelin. Owned a 1970 AMX 390 V8 automatic and a 1970 Javelin 304 V8 3 speed on floor. Right now I have a super nice 1974 International Custom 100 pickup 1/2 ton with the factory Installed AMC 401 V8. Automatic, duel exhaust with the Dana 354 Rear end. Bought the truck because it had the great AMC engine in it. Not very many of these seen around. Very much AMC related.

I worked at the main AMC plant in Kenosha in 73! I probably helped put that engine together, on the engine line! What was surprising was how many police special 401's went thru the line to be put in Matadors, forged cranks, and heavy duty parts all! If you can find one of those Police 401 engines, you have a good start!

Hello Dennis In the 70’s, I had a brochure/ catalog from AMC on their racing program. Including pro-stock engine’s , all parts used, machining required. Unfortunately, I loaned it to a friend who was building a modified jeep, never to be seen again. Enjoy your Coffee Walk, best on YT.

Dennis, why's the Jimmy Walker car got a wide auto style brake pedal, and where's the clutch pedal?
@olsketchmo
@olsketchmo 3 жыл бұрын
That is not the wide automatic car brake pedal, that is the 4-speed brake pedal, and one must pause and look close, but the Clutch Pedal is there, it's just all the way down on the floor almost out of sight.

In 1978, I bought my 1968 AMX. In the winter of 1981/82, I lost the oil pump on a highway trip, locked up the 290 v8, and couldn't afford to fix it. Had to sell it. I still wish I could have kept it.

I worked for an AMC dealer in the 70's, picked up a '68 AMX 390 auto with Posi that a customer traded in. What a great road trip car ! Perfect for our West Coast [B.C.] mountain highways. Three semis laboring up a 6% grade at 30 MPH ? No problem, just point and squirt... Loved that car, wish I'd kept it.

Based on the Pierre Cardin registry its the only one registered with this exact configuration. It's been sitting in a climate controlled garage just waiting to be restored since the late 80's. I had a chance to buy a 1970 Trans Am red white and blue 390 4 speed ram air javelin. ( one out of one hundred built) it had been painted white because the original owner didn't like the attention it was getting. (police) The gentleman died and his family did not want to part with it. he also had a 1963 corvette that he never drove. he enjoyed driving the Javelin more. he lived just a mile from my house. to me that car is the HOLY GRAIL of all the Javelin's. thank you Dennis for lending a voice for the AMC loving community. I own a 1973 Javelin. It's a P- code 360 B/W 4 speed console with the rarer 15 inch rally wheels with volcano caps. Rescued it from 16 years of sitting in a barn at a walnut orchard. took a year to get her back on the road. Love the car. Always will. Keep up the good work on finding these great orphaned cars!!!
