I remember when we did the "Recreating a Janet Arnold pattern" for our costume course, the teachers warned us not to choose this dress because all previous student who did struggled massively with this pattern. And the same with the 1912 evening dress, which I really wanted to do, so I did another one instead. I made the 1760's Quilted Petticoat and Jacket with Hood for my course, only in half-scale though.

Amazing! Love the vid and I am so impressed. I also appreciate the reminder to use one's judgement when sewing, even Janet Arnold can have an off day.
@empressofbuttons34784 жыл бұрын
Yes that's so important to remember! With all this talk of how PoF is the bible of historical costuming books, we often forgot that Janet isn't a god, she was a human like us and she made mistakes too.

@@empressofbuttons3478 even then it looked amazing! And I got into wimbledon but I decided to go to Arts uni Bournemouth instead because I am not a huge fan of london, plus I've never lived anywhere near the sea before and that sounds fun! 😊
@empressofbuttons34784 жыл бұрын
Congrats that sounds lovely! Bournemouth was my second choice, I ended up going to Wimbledon because London has more options for fabric shopping but that's personal preference, I bet Bournemouth is more relaxed and definitely cheaper 😉
@reay18644 жыл бұрын
@@empressofbuttons3478 yes, there are definitely pros and cons to both! Luckily my family home is near enough to london so I can get fabric when I visit home 😊 wimbledon did have very cool dyeing facilities though, I would love to do that at uni! Did you do lessons just on dyeing itself?
@empressofbuttons34784 жыл бұрын
@@reay1864 We had inductions to the dye room and students definitely use it a lot, kinda depends on their specialism. There aren't lessons per say besides the mentioned inductions but the uni has 2 dedicated dye technicians that can help with projects.
