Man I have mad respect for you and your channel, you not only know what you're doing but give alternatives to your products for people who can't afford them. Bc of this I'll be buying some of your products in the next few months. Appreciate everything you do to help us all be prepared to enjoy camping and in worst cases survive being lost. Thank you.

I saw this posted on a forum a couple of months ago by someone else, and it's a good idea. You can also use this trick for any tinder. Just lay your Ferro Rod against a stick as shown above, pin your tinder down with that stick, and strike away! That's how I do it, anyway.

Was just thinking about,missing your vids and this one popped up...true story 👍. But I know how busy you are making and coming out with new gear. Great tip and another tool for the tool box indeed. I prefer shavings as well. The beginning was great 😂. Hope to be at some of those 2023 classes and can't wait for more awesome gear at Coalcracker Bushcraft to come out. Another awesome video as always brother 💪👍

hi Dan, I recently had an epiphany! I was sharpening a pencil with a regular pencil sharpener, and figured the shavings looked like decent tinder. so I sharpened a twig and it worked and also figured the twig could double as a tent peg maybe.. anyway I found out on KZbin that I didn't invent this idea. But I didn't see a coalcracker version? wondered if you heard of that?
@MasterYoist2 жыл бұрын
I'm a retired teacher. I used to collect pencil sharpener shavings and stored them in tin cans for the proverbial "rainy day."
@BoxcutterBushcraft6 ай бұрын
I have always carried a magnesium pencil sharpener in my kit. It pulls double duty, because I can also scrape the magnesium from the sharpener and it burns HOT.

It also helps if you had your fire and it turned to coals and you want flames again. Then just add featers again and Whhoom!. Might just need to blow little bit of air . Did it couple of nights ago as i wanted to just chill and watch the flames

I was just about to say when you see those big beautiful feather sticks on IG its likely the loose shavings added in. Then you mentioned it. Point is, dont get discouraged with feather sticks. None of them are perfect

@JD-gn6du2 жыл бұрын
Try as I may, I find that even with the sharpest of knives and I’ve spent a lot of time trying… the various types of wood in my region don’t produce all that well with feather sticks.
@joegiotta75802 жыл бұрын
Why does nobody ever mention the stationary knife method? If you keep your knife/scraper stationary where you want the sparks to land, and then pull your ferro-rod back against it, your sparks will stay in the exact spot you want them throughout the entire pull.
