41:28 bro people will happily tell you out loud here in the US that they value dogs over homeless people, they feel worse for the dog then the person and they only want to give them food for the dog and sometimes they choose not to give food because the person will eat it instead of the dog WHAT THE FUCK its a majority of people i know irl growing up
@موسى_711 күн бұрын
I'll explain the American mindset. According to Americans, a dog usually deserves more empathy than a human being because a dog is a dumb animal and therefore helpless. A human being on the other hand has agency, so can help himself. In the situation of homelessness specifically, Americans see poverty, and especially homelessness as a moral failing rather than a result of bad luck, because they truly believe that anyone can be what they want to be in America, the land of "opportunity".
@heatedupbread54619 күн бұрын
Reminds me of a quote from an Iraqi child during the gulf war about how they'd rather be born a dog in America because they'd be treated better. Absolutely gut wrenching to hear.
@entewente6 күн бұрын
Most Germans hold extremely vile positions towards homeless people as well. The two most common narratives are 1) they want to be homeless/it's there own fault they're homeless and 2) they'll just spend any money you give them on drugs. The first one is obviously bullshit. And regarding the second one: so what? Is it better for them to suffer or even die from withdrawal?!

He's definitely tough, I wasn't expecting him to go after Owen Jones as hard as he did. But the evidence is all there, that Jones defended Israel's existence as an apartheid Jewish supremacist state right up until it crossed the line of genoc*de. Jones's excuse that he was tailoring his message to a Zionist audience demonstrates his lack of conviction. Bad Empanada demonstrates that it is, in fact, possible to say harsh truths about harsher realities. So much respect for him.

Regarding the discussion of Israeli society (material gains, anti-Zionism in the ultra-orthodox community, the indoctrination and responsibility) - you were almost spot-on in your analysis (especially Hakim), but having grown up there (then becoming anti-Zionist and active in pro-Palestinians groups, later leaving Israel altogether etc. etc.) there are some nuances to add to what said. Mind you, not nuances in the sense of "but the society is not really that bad", but in the sense of the details that describe these processes, e.g. how exactly Israeli society materially benefits from the long-term process of ethnic cleansing of Palestinians (and what Jews in Israel are sacrificing for this gain), how the Zionist indoctrination works (e.g. in schools and the media), what are the relations between Mizrachim and Ashkenazim in Israeli society and how the ultra-orthodox fit into all of this, etc. etc. I would LOVE to talk to people about it, as I do in person in Germany where I now live. I have no idea how to contact the gang here, but I would really like to give my input as an "insider" (and someone most Israelis would consider a traitor ¯\_(ツ)_/¯).

One area where Yugopnik and Hasanabi are mistaken about the "poverty draft" and luxury not being one of the primary motivators for joining the military is that if the Iraq War had resembled the Eastern Front, the so-called "poverty draft" wouldn’t exist. People wouldn’t charge at a machine gun nest through a minefield for a Mustang. The IDF and the U.S. military are able to recruit because of the technological advantage they possess and the propaganda that comes with it. "Join the IDF-we have cool guns and missiles with thermal sights; it’s like Call of Duty, fun and safe." The Palestinian prove the propaganda wrong by blowing the up lol

basically he did a video talking about the myth of yakub, specifically the version of his story told by the NOI (Nation of Islam) which itself doesent have a whole lot to do with islam. Outside of the NOI, Yakub is a prophet in Islam and Christianity too. Essentially what the NOI claims is that once upon a time there were no white people and black people reigned in prosperity. This guy Yakub he was a fucked up scientist with a bigass head who then seletively bred white people into existence and made them innately evil because idk he was evil too

You say you hate the Michael Brooks quote but in the next sentence you illustrated why it's useful framing. The system of settler colonialism is what causing the genocide, people are individuals and we mustn't be ruthless with people just based on their broad identities ie. Religion, race, class, because this is the definition of bigotry. Zionism is a system of oppression so we are permitted to be ruthless with this and ruthless with its adherents to a degree.
@BadEmpanada10 күн бұрын
People uphold systems for their own benefit. Systems are made by people for people and upheld by them because they benefit them. You didn't demonstrate anything, you just tried to abstract a problem of human action into an immaterial one. Your framing is not only incorrect but it comes out of a desire to frame the victimisers as victims themselves. They aren't, and you hurt Palestinians by pretending they are.
@shamanicmike5 күн бұрын
@BadEmpanada ok so what you are saying is that because some Jews are Zionists then let's be ruthless with all Jews? Because some Muslims are Isis let's be ruthless with all Muslims? I like you bad empanada but your understandable anger is clouding your judgement on this one.

Awesome show ty. It’s hard to remember we don’t have free will. Ik it feels like we’re choosing. Research shows decisions are made up to ten seconds before we become aware of them. We’re tribal social creatures. It’s our super power but it can also be harmful. Indoctrination isn’t something everyone can shake. It took me 45 years to recognize I was indoctrinated. Some ppl never wake up. Waking up isn’t a choice it’s luck if u value it ig. No one wants to think they are bad and evolution doesn’t select for truth it selects for survivability.

There's credibly research that argues against determinism. I enjoy Dennet's work on it, even though I despise his work on religion.
