Wait. What? Hold the phone. You mean I *don't* have to extinguish all the fires on the floor to get 100%?! Son of a bitch.

Yeah, the small, silent "carpet" fire that merely impedes your progress is irrelevant. Unless of course it blocks your escape from an enemy, haha. Main thing is audio - if you can hear that telltale low growl, something in the room needs dousing. Two exceptions: first, the "roamer" waves, which are audible, but will self-extinguish when they hit a wall - those can be sidestepped and ignored. Second, some rare, lategame trap spawns, like the player-seeking "fire puddles" lurking in the final stage's art gallery. You can't hear them until they're spawned by crossing their tripwires, which is why I take a circuitous route there.

Is this real-time or TAS? And you are playing on emulator or real hardware?
@BIL04712 жыл бұрын
This was played on an emulator, for convenience. Same for most of my runs prior to getting a PS4, which is also very easy to capture from. Absolutely *nothing* on this channel is cheated, tool-assisted, etc. I've one-lifed far tougher games than this via the cheat-proofed PS4 Arcade Archives and M2 Anniversary Collections - as far as I'm concerned, a single cheated run would destroy the credibility of the entire playlist. I'm into collecting and playing games, then posting about it here: shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=45206 - just never invested in a capture setup, though I've got my eye on the Hardware subforum lately. I do consider it a sign I'm playing well when I get asked if it's TAS. ^__^ While this isn't the hardest run/gun, Legend Rank does demand quite a bit of route planning, as well as a steady hand (~45min of nonstop seek/destroy). IIRC it took around a fortnight - you can see my notes here if you're going for the same rank: shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?p=1193861#p1193861

@@BIL0471 Fair enough, thanks for the detailed answer. Yeah I am going for the Fighter of Legend rank currently (I am playing the pal version) but finding information about this game on the Internet has proven to be a challenge given that the game is a little on the obscure side. Thanks for the links, And yes I would agree this is a very good playthrough you have here. There's a lot of memorisation involved in 100 pointing this game so I'm sure I will get there with practice. Knowing you have done it in 36m is very encouraging, that shows me its not as unmanageable as I had thought.

By the way re the video description, the requirement is definitely 45m not 40m, there's a 44m playthrough on YT where the player gets it successfully

Thanks for the info, will update the description! Incidentally, I heard there were some odd things in the PAL version's timer mechanics, possibly due to the conversion to 50hz. Here's a link where a few others discussed it, in case it's of any help: shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?p=1293156#p1293156 A huge help when going for Legend rank is to keep the Super Water. The boosts to your hose and running speed look subtle, but they really pay off. The other big thing is knowing where to cash in on your bombs, classic Ikari/MERCS stuff.

@@BIL0471 Yep pal version is bugged with the timer, your health drains to its last hit point when the timer gets to ~1:40 because they forgot the adjust the timer to compensate for pal's 50hz. It does make things more challenging when you're starting out, but after you're able to run through stages quicker the timer doesn't get a chance to get to that point anyway so it no longer matters. Also might want to re-update the description, it's 45 not 40

is it playable without knowing japanese?
@BIL04717 жыл бұрын
I would say so. The objective throughout is essentially "locate fires and civilians," and audio cues will suffice there. Environmental hazards are likewise pretty visible. Might take a tiny bit more trial and error, but it's a simple and very easily interpreted game overall. The one thing I remember being caught out by was the game's first backdraft, and I'm not sure if you're even warned about it. Basically when you hear that telltale whine, hit the deck! There is a full-English PAL release, not sure how it compares in gameplay terms though.
