Studied traditional Japanese jiu jitsu for a few year when I was a kid, but relied purely on being a 6ft 225lb 13yr old. This is the kind of stuff I should have learned. Fundamentals and skill will win out over power the majority of times. Great video!

Damn professor. My wife and I are both 3 stripe white belts. My wife likes playing guard but as of this writing she has zero sweeps in her arsenal. I know she will want to have these sweeps to beef up her guard game immensely. This video will really want her to practice technique with me in our garage. We have mats.

what a good time to upload this video... today a newbie(first class) pinned me(1 stripe white) with my neck down in my closed guard and was stuck for a good 40-50 seconds. Usually other guys in my gym posture up when they are in top closed guard. I was confused when this newbie did the opposite. I wrote this scenario down to get back to my Trainer to ask him ways to deal with it and your video got to me before I got to my trainer. Thanks a ton !!! Just subscribed :)

I love that last one. Been done to me so many times by higher belts. Very effective. They usually bring the arm across their body with the same side hand and then scoop the leg with the other hand. Bingo!

These were the first ones I learned, but after a while only rolling with people like 40 lbs heavier than me I rarely even go for sweeps... needed a reminder! The scissor sweep can be so effective!

Im a blue belt, those are pretty much the only sweeps i use from closed guard. That knee shield to scissor sweep is what started my guard game as a white belt. Knee shield is great.

When I started off as a white belt, the third scissor sweep is what I used almost everytime. Eventually, though, the other white belts caught on and started making better bases and I couldn’t do it anymore haha

If they really base out to prevent the scissor sweep to one side, maybe you can switch to a butterfly sweep on the other side. Hook the wide based leg, hip escape to the same side, and catch them by surprise? Just spitballing :)

I love the over-under sweep. The second sweep you performed. It's simple and so effective. Yes, it's good to mix up and go for more sweeps but I've always loved this one because of how simple it is to pull off.

Attention newer people: notice uke’s right hand around the 1:33-1:38 mark. It is important to cup the shoulder to protect the wrist. Performing the sweep? Be a good partner and check. This should be part of any instructional, since Jiu-Jitsu takes two.

Thanks for showing both grips (Gi & No Gi) I think Joe Rogan said it best if you live up north where everyone is wearing jackets Gi is best for you but if you live here in Florida where I do your average street fight is going to be beach style where they take their shirt off and sweat quickly becoming super slippery to grip onto.
