Using eye tracking to be able to select menu options like what was shown with the PSVR 2 is actually a really good idea.

I have always wanted to use my eyes as a mouse on my desktop, but eyetracking in high rez VR headsets will be even more amazing because I can use them as A monitor replacement as well as click with my eyes. This is gonna be fun.

Menu selection was my first thought when I first heard of the possibility of eye tracking. Menus in VR are horribly unwieldy, but often necessary. More immersive solutions are neat, but not always applicable. Eye tracking solve this in a heartbeat. It's a match made in heaven.

Pico 4 supporting 72 IPD is HUGE!! First standalone VR HMD that even comes close to supporting my 73 IPD since the Oculus Quest 1.

I was able to try the Quest 2 and it worked well for me despite my high IPD. Way better than expected and I'd even say almost better than my Quest 1. But I love seeing someone announce a headset with IPD adjustability and high IPD again!

My best friend has an IPD of 76. It absolutely enrages me that headset makers have ignored people with wide eyes so much. I know multiple other people with IPDs over 72. 72 should be the absolute minimum. How hard would it be to go to 74?

My assumption with the PSVR thing is that it's specifically that the games are not inherently backwards compatible (i.e. the hardware interface does not have compatibility layers), meaning developers will have to patch in the PSVR2 SDK. Not the most ideal, but hopefully most developers will do that free of charge

I prefer the MUCH improved tracking system over the fact that I can't play games I can still play on my PS5/PSVR1 with the simple add-on adapter.

@@tomcat3900 This right here. With the adapter the PS5 can use PSVR1 and play the games. PSVR2 far surpasses the capabilities of PSVR1 in all facets: higher resolution, better controllers, better tracking...etc. It should be able to handle PSVR1 games without a problem...the only thing they need is a system level patch/wrapper that converts the inputs from the new hardware to something the old games understands (basically headset and controller position, rotation, movement, elevation etc...). Sony's announcement is a bit off...

Pico May end up a quest killer not because it’s superior (though sounds like it is) but because a lot of the meta users have wanted any other option. I know in the future I’d consider a pico over a quest when I upgrade from my Q2.

It's only a slight step in the right direction spec wise, mostly due to the physical design, which seems to be very much what the next Quest will look like. Meta also has the partnership with Qualcomm now to specifically have XR chips made for the Quest line, chips aren't exclusive to meta, but will be exclusive for optimization to the Quests software.

The Neo 3 Link price already is a big punch. It costs as much as the 256G was before the price increase, but comes with both the cable (which is DP without any compression on top of that) and a fairly decent strap, so in other words you get that Pico for 450 bucks with the feature set of a Quest 2 + accessories that now is 700 bucks. And the Pico 4 will feature even more for less... it's absolutely throwing the gauntlet at tEh ZuCc's feet really hard.

I really want the eye and face tracking for my next headset, particularly with a good wireless PC link. The Quest Pro self-tracking controllers is also a big plus, because I'm tired of them losing tracking when behind my back. I'm building out a SlimeVR full body tracking rig, so for me it's all about that peak social-vr experience, and the Quest Pro (assuming they actually expose the face tracking stuff through the PC Link) just seems like the ultimate headset for that purpose

I was stunned by the Pico 4 Price, I almost feel sad, that my 35% reduced price won't be much lower. Just sad, that there is no PC VR support for now(no DP, but a wireless dongle in like 3 weeks), as that will probably be my only use.

I think it's kinda cool, and I was planning on using one with my valve knuckles, but here are my issues with it 1. Bytedance. I hate data eating companies like Meta and Bytedance, but this I could deal with. I used to own a Quest 2 after all. 2. No DisplayPort, or even USB-C video support. The only option is wireless. I play Beat Saber a lot, and the latency added by wireless is too much for me to play with. 3. No replaceable headstrap. I can't put my Vive DAS on it. 4. No Auxiliary jack. I can't plug headphones into it without an adapter, and that means no battery bank. Overall, I think it's a cool headset, but I probably won't buy one.

I absolutely love that the Pico uses a design for the headstrap that apparently doesn't need a strap going over the top of your head, for some reason for me even light weight on the very top of my head gets overwhelmingly uncomfortable after not long.

From what I was reading earlier, a main problem is lack of any ports, not even audio, aside from USB-C. Sure, there's workarounds, but having dongles having off for basic features like that are a huge oversight when and if needed. Wireless audio is unlikely to be low latency enough, and immersion is not good for the discrete tucked away audio that is built in. Lack of US launch also leaves me hanging, so could be great but I'll have to keep an eye out for more.

This is very exciting and tempting for a first VR purchase, but I think I will wait for Quest 3 with the new chip. Pico 4, in my opinion, is an in between upgrade and the battery is too limited considering I get 6 hours out of my Quest 2 with battery strap. Also, I have invested a lot in Oculus games. Great news for competition though.

Such amazing headsets coming! From the Pico 4 to the PSVR 2, VR is going to have a great future. Just some things scaring me, first by the Pico being the only competitor to Meta (with the fact it's a Chinese company), and of course the standalone VR performance is still pretty far from PCVR (or PSVR2 for example) Either way, all of this looks just insane! I do have a question, if you could make your dream VR game (If you have the resources necessary etc) what would it be? I would love a game like Destiny 2 but in VR, MMOs with guns 👀, that could be such a great idea (If I could do it, I would lol) Great video Thrill, I can't wait for more of your videos!

Well, question: is Destiny 2 in Unreal Engine 4, or does it use its own physics engine? If you remember at the beginning of the video, that guy is taking all UE4 games and VR modding them, so there's a pretty good chance you might actually see that. edit: looked it up. they use their own physics engine, not frostbite but something called tiger. well, maybe it still could happen, i don't see why destiny 2 couldn't have vr support. here's to hoping

I've still been rocking my Quest 1 over the past couple of years, because after trying a Quest 2, it didn't seem like significant enough an upgrade to justify spending another multiple-hundred bucks on (primarily because I've been using it mostly for PCVR anyways), but I'll probably be buying a Pico 4 if it comes to North America! Definitely gonna be waiting for your review when that time comes.

It probably won't.. Pico is brand of Bytedance, the same company behind TikTok. And Bytedance has been in lot of trouble in USA. Also Quest 3 is going to be launching this year so you might have easier time getting your hands on that one

Back in the 90s, they always talked about the 'killer app', the app that gets the normies into some new kind of tech. The killer app they were looking for on the internet was something that made it indispensible. In that case, it was video streaming. Search your heart, you know that to be true. What VR needs is something that changes everything for the normies the same way streaming changed television viewing and made the internets indispensible for the normie.

I think half life alyx was and is good enough to be a "killer app" (on top of it being from a hugely influential company like Halo was being from Microsoft), but the hurdles at the time to play it were insane for a normal person. If it was just a few years later and had a native quest 2 version I feel like it could've smashed vr open for almost everyone.

Nah it was online messaging. Communication is what got people online. I know plenty of older people that use the internet for socializing but never watch videos or such. Video is right up there as one of the biggest but messaging/communication is the biggest.

I've had V44 for a few weeks now, as someone who has a couple docu style VR projects in the works, it's super helpful now that my gaming PC completely bit the dust. Has a bit of an issue with the motion smoothing on landscape mode, black bars following around the edges and whatnot, but aside from that, pretty solid.

I have the original PSVR, Quest 1, and Rift S. Of the 3 my Rift S is played way more. My son got my original Rift so he was happy. :)

Got the pico 4 vr headset in India a few days ago and it works pretty well, with wireless capabilities to connect pcvr right outside the box
