Up to this day 12 years later, I refuse to watch this anime again, just the mere mention of the anime just make me shed tears. this anime left a hole in my heart longing for someone I never even met. sobbing for a best friend that doesn't exist. it's that powerful. The story has holes but that doesn't matter because the way they strung your heart makes up for it in spades!

One) It’s easy to see the inspiration of your channel’s name. Two) Otonashi’s background was just as heartbreaking. While was selfish, he cared for his sister, and when she died, he decided to be a doctor. But then train crash happened, and he severely injured. He tried put his medical training to use, managed to save all but one of the survivors, inspired the others to be an organ donor. Most devastatingly though, he died moments before the others were rescued. Three) That last scene with him and Kanade almost had a happy ending in the post credit scene. We see him walking along while she stands humming a song that’s familiar to him, and he reaches out to her as she leaves. Beyond that, we have no idea what happened afterwards. Leaving it up for fan fictions.

I feel like the reason why this got so popular is because it felt so “human”. It’s a reminder that everything has to end eventually and that life has plenty of ups and downs. Remember those good memories, because those memories will always be light in your darkest moments. “Even if those memories make me sad, I’ve got to go forward, believing in the future. Even when I realize my loneliness, and I'm about to lose all hope, those memories make me stronger.”

My only real complaint is the plot holes, but even then I don’t think they take away from the story. The characters we do get a look at all have such moving stories. As great as the ending is, Iwasawa’s story is still my favorite. Thanks again for the recommendation. This is a touching story that everyone should take the time to enjoy.
@parkeraguirre2 жыл бұрын
I think part of the reason that those plot holes exist is due to the fact that their run time was originally 29 episodes, then 23, then 19 and then 13. Originally they wanted to touch on the Programmer but couldn’t literally due to run time constraints

I have always considered Angel Beats as my motivation to break through moments where I felt like a loss something important in my life. I want to continue to live my life so that those who live with regrets can realize that they can find the will to live on and find redemption based on the example of the life that they love for themselves. Thank you for sharing your experience with Angel Beats because it was similar to mine.

I recently started watching angel beats and finished it within two days, and im glad that i stumbled into it, at first I thought it was gonna be a normal fantasy but towards episode 7 and 12 my view changed completely, watching the characters share their favorite things they wish they did before they died and were taken to the afterlife only to get reincarnated after helping each other come to terms with their past life and moving on made me cry out of nowhere, sure the story was only 12 episodes short but it was definitely worth watching.

Not gonna lie, remembering the show while watching your video had me tearing up. I got into it after Clannad and Kanon (also by Key for those that don't know) and was prepared for the pain that would inevitably come with one of their products but it really didn't matter, it still messed me up in the best possible way. Angel Beats is one of my all time favorites and has some of the best character writing I've ever seen. Violet Evergarden is just about the only show I can think of that messed me up more emotionally that you didn't mention.

I definitely have to thank you because this video of yours made me curious enough to watch Angel Beats. And I'm glad that I did so because I really liked it. It is rather unique (and I agree upon its weaknesses) but the theme of these teens with so bad luck in life ending up in this world to get a chance to feel happy - wow. Touches me personally and very deeply . Quite thought-provoking. And of course it made me cry, but that's perfectly okay.

Cried a few times while watching, but then i wanted a trully happy ending, so i searched for fanfic's. Found a one with a realy realy realy happy ending, then i cried a bit, but, they were not tears of saddnes, thoes were tears of happiness. Angel Beats! is the anime that made me start watcing these, sad anime. Before, i watched a bit of romace a bit of action amd stuff, but this made me cry, and, for some weird reason, i liked it, the crying. They say crying over an anime is ok, cuz that means that the anime was so well done, that you connected with the characters and the story, that it fealt soo real, in some way, that you got a need to cry, over their struggles, but also, to be happy about their "moments", and, sometimes, even be embarassed when "confesions" are happening. I think that, with every next sad anime i watched, i cried a bit more. Fun fact: I stubled across this anime by chanse, i watched a anime, searcher similars to that anime, then choose "Skilled teaser Takagi-san", then again searched similars, then watched a few more animes, like Toradora, Shakugan no Shana, Tsuredure Children and i found this anime, #I Cried, Cried my lungs out# (who gets this is a legend and please comment if you know from where this is), at the time, i didnt know that it is the 5th saddest anime in the world. Every anime after was realy sad, and made me cry. I started questioning myself. "Why is every anime i watch sad?". A few days ago, i watched Plastic Memories and i still cant get over it, *sniff*. Well, it seems like i got carried away writing this.

When I tried to watch this a few months earlier, my level of empathy was like Angel's, which means, almost non-existent if it meant the fulfillment of duty and purpose: -I saw Yuri as a mere warmonger, as she would risk the universe's integrity by facing God, even though it could have been the Devil who arranged for the unfairness that befell her life and family; -I did not judge Angel's attack on the Ootanashi. He was dead and he asked for proof of it. She delivered, because that's her job; -I'm not sure I can be so forgiving towards the hypnotist. He was neglected, I get it. But steal someone's identity like that just to get the love of someone who probably doesn't even deserve it... This one I'll admit I refrain from passing on active judgement. It feels too unfair for me to do it, given I do not know that kind of neglect; -And, I saw the humans' actions in resisting erasure as futile. That was the purgatory. They would either be reincarnated or ascend. That's how it works both in the East and West. All they had to do was to either follow rules or fulfill their final wish. Yuri I might even understand why she couldn't do neither, because even in my scenario, I imagine she would need not to be at peace if she hoped to one day face the Devil. My final veredict... This show was perfect. And I, am an idiot who could never deserve to have my sinful eyes gaze upon this wholesome beauty. Because, I spent too much time with my routine of overseeing. My level of human concern and care is very minimal at worst and lowly average at best. I do have one complaint though. It should have been longer. Seriously ? 12 episodes ? For a show this complex with such 3 dimensional characters ?

Hi, I recently watched Angel Beats and I couldn't believe this anime came almost a decade ago. Even if the anime feels like it was rushed and should have had 20-something episodes, it was still a fantastic story that almost would have been perfect if it wasn't for a couple of elements.

I saw a video analysing this show... It's official. I'm a worthless piece of garbage who couldn't appreciate beauty, even if it donated its heart to my undeserving body ! Best case scenario, I'm gonna end up in a purgatory similar to the anime's. Worst case... I'm gonna end up either in Hell or erased without ever ascending to a higher form.

The catalyst for my anime obsession. Growing up i watched few anime and that its. Then one day i want to try watching some popular anime. I see many recommended Angel Beats. After finished it, i amazed with the plot. At first it looks like the typical sci-fi high schoolers stories then it escalated unexpectedly. It just too short and left many mystery. It had many heartbroken past. I crying like river on the last episode. I then watch other anime that got sad storyline like Plastic Memory, Charlotte, Your Lie In April and so on. My all time favourite till today is Natsume Yuujinchou. By the way i also loved to watch Inuyasha back then too. Old anime is better than today anime. Even ancient anime like Sailor Moon is enjoyable for me. Too much ecchi, harem trash anime nowadays.

About the plot holes, I think that Otonashi one isn't a plot hole, there are 2 theories that seems to make sense 1 is actually a real theory and the other is a theory about the anime, there's either the theory that Otonashi is actually the programmer, but what I really think happens is that the anime approaches time as a non linear thing, and is hinted at by yuri actually being the founder of the group and the oldest person in that world (length wise) when Shina is from Feudal Japan Edit: Also, what type of monster are you that didn't cry when Yui vanished, when Hinata showed up I was a mess of tears in a corner balling like a toddler
