Such beautiful armies and good narrative. Despite your excellent reports and I am still not sold on HC, but there are not too many options out there for large battles in 28mm. Anyway, I have to paint a lot more minis to play HC. In the meantime I have fun with Clash... :) keep the good content up, I really appreciate it.

HOOooooo ! ! ! What a charge. You can see why heavy cavalry was all the rage in Europe for a thousand years. Nevertheless, taken together, the overall campaign demonstrates the difficulty the Crusaders had unless they could catch the native forces out of position or napping. I know you're buried in models to paint but I do miss painted casualties over pretty red stones. At the same time there'd have been one hell of a pile of corpses after the massacre of your heavies. Thanks to you both for the entertainment & all you do for the hobby. Hugs.

Haha true 😁 tonbe honest I just haven't found any casualties that I like and as you say I'd need alot of them. The red gems do just stand out quite well for the video though they do break the effect a little 👍
@TwisstedSage
@TwisstedSage Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply. I tried to find some casualties on the web and was sadly disappointed. Even the Perrys only offer a couple (MA 30 dead & wounded or VLF Afghan casualties) and one not even of the right period. Trying to find something from Caballero/Reconquer or Northern Crusade was even more frustrating cause its all ETSY, or a host of other print makers and a search just turns up gobs of medieval figures in all sorts of activities aside from just laying dead. I might consider Old Glory, even though they're only 25mm, because you get a bucket load for a reasonable price and, in my experience, dead bodies always look remarkably small in situ. Hugs.@@7thson726

Hey, grand battle report my lads and good to see so many amazing bits of models and terrain on the board - which for a crusader era game usually isn’t much. And it’s good to see that even basic Crusader Heavy Cavalry still holds quite the punch. Yes it needs the right circumstances but thats left to the crusader to set up - I.e. use bowmen and crossbow men behind heavy infantry to weaken formations for your knights to pounce on (as they did in real life). Only thing I’d like to maybe have seen/see is a bit more tension tossed into mess with both forces. I.e. a crusader commander instead of being all from Normandy being from Spain, or Saxxe, or Italia or Paris/souther france; and having it that there is slight tension in the ranks due to this. Same can apply to the Turkish forces too. And you could even do secret polls of what (insert character) may do and let the community decide. And at the start of a next campaign phase, you roll to see if your “leading” commander can keep control of his subordinate (or he himself decided to behave) or he goes rouge and does as the community would wish him to do. - note best way to keep this fair too. You all get to make your moves with every Commander first, however it’s only after the reveal that you roll to see if you does as you want or we wish. Means neither side can go “well he’s going to rouge there so I’ll ignore that location” but keeps it “hah we have squared you two too one… oh he’s… he’s going to the small desert pattio over there… ok”
@7thson726
@7thson726 Жыл бұрын
Thanks very much, glad you enjoyed it 😁👍 we have got some tension mechanics in there for the different Saracen nation's and the different crusaders/byzantines, at the moment all the crusaders are from the itallio - Norman contingent however with the arrival of the Byzantine allies things may not go as smoothly as they would like 😁

Excellent battle again, nice to see a game where Robin rolls at least averagely! Beautiful board and beautiful armies as usual. I thought robin's infantry unit would also be giving him the +5, as in a previous turn you pointed out they had made it past the threshold?
@7thson726
@7thson726 Жыл бұрын
Hey, thanks very much, really glad you enjoyed it 😁 Ah that was my bonus objective, to prevent him from having any units over halfway not his. His bonus onjective was to have non shaken units on the plateau for +5, so by having a unit over the threshold he didn't gain +5 but denied me +5 👍

Hey!! I know I am week late but I wanted to ask a question on terrain. One thing I'm not sure is bushes. What material do you use for the ones in this video? do you just sprinkle them around without glue or base; Do they get in teh way of the soldiers? or do you just move them around if they are I assume you use the battlemat yes? I always wonder how to do hill and one idea was to place somthing under neath. What did you use in this video? it looks very good!! if it is not battlemant any other tip would be nice ! Sorry for many questions but your quality is very good,! you find realistic aesthetics of terrain very important which is rare to see! I am inspired! Thank yoo!
@7thson726
@7thson726 Жыл бұрын
No problem at all, the bushes are lichen that we've clumped together. Other bits of scatter are just lichen or flock sprinkled over the table. The hills are made by putting t shirts under the cloth mat as they look more like natural ground forms and are easy to pop figures on. Hope this helps, feel free to ask if there is anything else you would like to know 😁👍

A trully enjoyable game to watch. I do have to say with one shatterd division and one retreating afther it's commander was killed it feels more like a major loss instead of a minor one. One question: Is there an option to retire a division and introduce a new one? Because it seems that expanding divisions is a very hard thing to get (needing a 7+ on the afthermath roll) Looking foreward to the next episode!
@andeluvianspeeddemon4528

On the other hand, the Seljuks did deny the Crusaders' bonus objective, so while the siege relief was a tactical success it wasn't an overwhelming one.
@reecedignan8365
@reecedignan8365 Жыл бұрын
I definitely think that it should be an option or that a few of the scenarios down the line potentially offer that. Maybe a major battle has happened close to our trios forces with both sides absolutely shattering one another into ineffectiveness and their leaders now laying dead across the ground. With nothing to do both armies sit idle just waiting on reinforcing to carry the day. So our trio send their reinforcements. Maybe two of the battlefields give a nice 2FP reinforcements to the winning division (split evenly if multiple) while the last may give a big +3. It would be expected that the other sides guys just get slaughtered tho on a draw maybe both sides get a +1 for picking up those who willingly just go “better than here” and on a minor loss on a 4+ they get a +1 for similar reason. Not being completely overrun like a major defeat but just surviving enough that some stragglers may decide to hop on for desperation. And you could even have a big special rule too. That instead of slaughtering the enemy force. You can ask to absorb them in - renounce religion here and swear to this religion here (this did happen, literally one of the guys leading the contingent that started the 3rd crusader and lost, went “yup, I’m Islamic now. Glory to brothers let’s kill these Christians” didn’t even hesitate about swapping sides. So you can offer this and gain an additional +1FP however you gain a -1 Strategy Rating until you gain a major victory (representing the unease both sides have to one another and the language barriers and the mistrust and hatred still lingering there). It’s good for potentially getting army that starts with 6FP to potentially having 10FP however that 10FP force is now also running on a 7 (potentially 6) strategy rating which makes command and control even harder.
@7thson726
@7thson726 Жыл бұрын
Thanks very much, this is an issue with all games where you make the split, Robin only lost out on the major victory by a single point, it all came down to that unit on the hill becoming shaken. Divisions expand in the consolidation phase which comes at the end of the strategy turn (where the battles are played) so first thing next game we'll be rolling on some tables and seeing how our forces do at rebuilding their strength to continue 😁

Absolutely 👍😁
@7thson726
@7thson726 Жыл бұрын
This is really interesting, I think we are going to look at incorporating some of this, especially the option to absorb the forces/ capture them. That's why I love doing this as an evolution as people can contribute to the development. We have the consolidation phase up next before we move onto the new map so we'll see how well our commanders have been at recruiting 😁

I have a question for anyone out there... Let's say I have a unit of four horsemen. One holds a banner, one holds a sword, one holds a spear and the last one holds a bow. What kind of damage will that unit inflict when melee and what kind when ranged? Is that something that the rulebook will explain (i.e. Hail Caesar, Pike & Shotte)?
@7thson726
@7thson726 Жыл бұрын
Stats in the game are per unit rather than per individual. So that unit for example could just be a small unit of light cavalry cavalry, which would have a ranged attack of 2 and a melee of 3 (5 when they clash), this lets you build units to look how you want as everything is based on unit frontage and whether the unit is small, standard or large Hope that helps 👍

@7thson726
@7thson726 11 ай бұрын
@@Edward-Plantagenet so for close combat you work out the break tests straight after the combat as the results could mean that another one is fought (if the unit breaks and you sweep into another one for example). For shooting attacks they are worked out at the end of the shooting phase, this is because shooting happens simultaneously across the army so all the casualties on a unit are taken into account when the test is taken. So you could pour shots into one unit, tip it to shaken and if it gets a "break if shaken" result then off they go, rather than testing repeatedly. Same for rolling the 6, you resolve it at the end of the phase. Hope that helps 👍
