When it comes to forming a square, it should be on if the cavalry is seen or not and if seen at what distance, the depending on the training of the troops, how long will it take to form square, so if there is a lot of smoke you may be contacted before forming that square...!!
@7thson7263 сағат бұрын
True - there should alwasy be (in my opinion) the chance of a blunder somewhere in there to represent poor leadership or something going wrong but those critea seem sound
@johnchristie8233 сағат бұрын
@@7thson726 The point is that if you don't see the cavalry charging at you, you should not be able to react, because of smoke, noise, and confusion, and if they are seen, and they are better trained they can react quicker...!!

I'm really into the Napoleonic wars and could tell you which battle is depicted in all the famous paintings! From someone also in the UK (I'm down in the south but way west of London) how would I go about getting into something like this and finding people to play with that aren't pushing retirement!? (The photos on the websites of the local gaming clubs show everyone looking 50+) I've never done any wargaming so not looking for really complex stuff that drags on for a whole weekend, just something you could play over an afternoon.
@7thson7263 сағат бұрын
Thats great that your looking into it. As you have alrady pointed out clubs are a good start though i appreciate what your saying. Another way is going into some of the Napoleonic Gaming FB groups and looking for players. Groups such as Black Powder 28mm Wargaming, Warlord Black Powder Napoleonics, Napoleonic Wargamer all come to mind. Also, the group we run through our podcast has alot of players for all sorts of games all across the country. Just search The Plastic Crack Podcast on FB, answer the three questions to join and once approved post away. I hope this helps

Hi Martin, i need your advice: what would be the best way to obtain rules clarifications for hail caesar epic rulebook? Those are about something really missing from the book, not the typical question arising where people did not actually read the text. Thanks in advance
@7thson7262 күн бұрын
There are a couple of groups on FB where it's easy to get clarifications from the writer and playtesters. The best one is called Hail Caesar Rules Discussion. What is it your after?
@garrywillswargamerauthor3 күн бұрын
Great video, well done to you both for giving us such great entertainment. It was great to see these rules be demonstrated. The cards seemed to make the game very clunky and sprinkled Napoleonic 'flavour' in a pretty random way unconnected to what was going on in the game itself. The cavalry behaved in a very un-cavalry way and were clearly unable to force the infantry into square. Having got on the flank of the Hanoverian Landwehr the Chasseurs a Cheval should have been able to sweep the brigade away. However you both clearly enjoyed it and you have saved me from buying it. Thanks again.
@7thson7263 сағат бұрын
Totally appreciate your comment and thank you for putting it forward in a decent, reasoned way, sometimes people aren't as... polite haha. I think i have some quetions over the the way cavarly acted which i hope will be resolved over the next few games, as that was the area i felt we maybe got wrong more than anything else. But we'll see. Thanks for taking the time to comment. All the best.

Re the first ‘big’ combat, where the elephants broke - you used triarii supporting the hastati using the manipulation rule, plus support from the principe directly behind. Couldn’t you have used the other principe unit as support, using the manipulation rule again?
@johncartmell11294 күн бұрын
* manipular
@7thson7264 күн бұрын
So he took 5 dice from the Hastati, 2 from the Principe and 2 from the Triarii (though this should have been 3). There are no other units in base to base as far as I can see for them to use. If there was then he had room for one more support, you only ever get a max of 3 supporting units. If I've looked at the wrong but just give me the time in the video and I'll check again 😁
@johncartmell1129Күн бұрын
@@7thson726 it could be my eyes, but I thought there was another unit diagonally to the right rear that could support using the manipular rule
