He's really the only one there that just does one thing for a living, masonry. Out of our 3 man crew, one is a proper engineer, one is a video editor / photographer and Nick is, well he seems very, very handy to have around but I don't quite know what his back ground is. But I think he has the most knowledge of what he's doing.

This is the one time he wasn’t actually that far up. He was above the balconies, not a drop to the ground. Other times I would agree but I think everyone is getting caught out by the camera angle. He was no further up than you be on a ladder cleaning upstairs windows…

As a carpenter my suggestion would have been to assemble this on the ground and lift this up onto the top with a crane, the money spent on the crane would easily be saved in labor, plus it would be much safer and easier to build

Made the same suggestion last week. Build on the ground and crane the structure up, bolt it in. I went as far as to say add the window frames and tiles on the ground :)

I really hope that one of the things that comes out of this is that more people follow in your footsteps and save all the old houses, manners, castles and buildings. Yes it's very hard work and yes it takes money but it's reclaiming a piece of local history and let's face it things are built like this anymore. They have to be saved somehow. Because I was curious, I took a quick look at french health and safety laws in relation to building sites. They are stringent to say the least. Siite owners and project management are liable to some hefty penalties including but not least of all, criminal prosecution and jail time should the worst befall employees. As far as I was able to determine under french legislation, you are obliged to have a safety strategy, employee awareness of said strategy, and the implementation of said strategy.

As to your remarking that the structure is going to be huge ,it is huge already. I was stunned actually ,seeing it all bolted together with massive hunks of wood gathered together in an enormous thick bundle❤.I can’t imagine anything in the way of weather causing any concerns when it is complete.

You know we all say that but I really don't think he cares about anything but the chateau. It has become a dangerous obsession. Old Dan is gone! It's not cheeky or adventurous. It is just inconsiderate and disrespectful! Dan, you make more than enough to build it on the ground next Spring and hire the equipment to raise it to the top! You should cap it off for now and secure the built roofs with secure roofing material and slate, copper guttering. You said you figured 5 years for this project. What is the rush? Dead men build no chateaus! SMH. I hope Dan's dream doesn't become Dan's folly!

Not gonna lie, watching you up there, I could just feel myself doing it when I was roofing many years ago. I got a wee adrenaline buzz from watching you free walking the top of the wall. Be careful guys, it's a long way down to that sudden stop at the bottom. The Mason is doing an awesome job of making it look all fresh and new as well.
