Singer turned swimmer Cody Simpson and Australia’s most decorated Olympian, Emma McKeon, have revealed their surprise romance was a “slow burn” in an exclusive new interview.
Simpson, 25, and McKeon, 27, who live and train together on the Gold Coast, have shared details of their relationship for the first time - including that their romance took more than a year to get off the ground.
In an exclusive interview for 7NEWS Spotlight, just days out from the 2022 Commonwealth Games, Simpson revealed it was a year before he told McKeon he was keen on her.
Despite training together six days a week, there is still room for romance, with McKeon saying that Aussie sport’s power couple “make it happen”.

They are such a humble beautiful couple. Love how they absolutely outclassed the interviewer with his attempt at bringing out the great Australian tall poppy syndrome. Doesn't exsit in such high quality people mate. How can you not love Cody's quiet self belief and determination. So inspiring. Amazing parents. A testimony to them. What a story. Totally disagree. He seems to be very humble guy. He was not intimidated by failure leaving all his singer success to become a potential national swim team member. Training almost every day for 5 years in a pool with no guarantee of success, oftern throwing up, doesnt get along with being narcissist.
