In the mid 70s till early 80s this was the hottest NEW way to catch big bass. This bait and how to fish it were pioneered right here in the Ozarks!

Good stuff, Chris! Started fishing a black, banana head, 1/2 oz, bucktail jig with an Uncle Josh eel in the 70's. Ran out of UJ many years ago so now use a plastic stick worm for a trailer. I love these videos that stir up good memories!

thank you!! I know some guys doing the same thing with the stick worm.

Great story. I really enjoy your content. Bucktails are still popular here in East Tennessee, where I fish. My FIL was an incredible smallmouth fisherman using these with an Uncle Josh trailer.

I hadn’t thought about it but I’ve been tying Bucktails for 50 years. Dad & I sold them in 1970s till 1990s , striper and bass jigs on Lake Texoma. He sold business in 1990s. I have a very soft spot for Bucktails , tied some yesterday. Used a stingray grub as a trailer sometimes.
