Excellent! Yes the multicart I think was the way to go. I think it's also a better use of the original super Gameboy hardware because you sacrifice ONE and then you grant access to any game/ rom you want to run. From an "art" standpoint I do like that you made functional SNES pokemon carts with colored cartridges as a project, but functionally I suspect one multi-cart will do the job.

for the flashcart to correctly save the game to the sd card you need to press the tactile switch on the flashcart in order for it to reset and then save otherwise it won't work, for that reason you'd probs want access to that tactile switch externally.

This is a really great idea and I'm glad its now shown how to make it yourself, but the biggest nagging question I would have is..... how long would that trade cable plug hold in place? I get that being careful you can use it for a long time, but it is just being held with some glue, how long will it hold? How many times plugging and unplugging would it take before eventually you push the plug into the slot for it to dislodge inside the cartridge!!!! Not that I wish for that to happen, but if done poorly it will happen to alot of others. So wouldn't mounting the board be a better option with the screw coming in thru the back that you would cover with label?

I'm half considering doing this to the Game Boy version of Space Invaders. It has a whole SNES version of the game on the cartridge that you can play using a Super Game Boy. It's nearly identical to the actual SNES release, but having both versions on the same cartridge with some bonus SGB features is such a cool and unique use of the hardware that it seems almost like a match made in heaven for a mod like this.

You should make superboy cartridges instead of destroying it. at least find someone that makes them. You are picking some rare stuff and making it ever rarer. It already costs as much as a new fridge in the third world. As long as i like the content, it started to grind my gears. like the logan paul gameboy table.
@BelowAverageGaming
@BelowAverageGaming Жыл бұрын
I get what your saying. But I disagree. The super gameboy is less rare than the super gameboy 2 which already cost a lot. The SGB 1 only cost $15 maybe? If you buy from Japan even cheaper. Now the SGB was in a sense a failure which was the reason for making the SGB2 (corrected clock speed and trading) I would argue I improved it with this method. I will give you the first pokemon video though, it doesn't make much sense to use single cartridges. If you wanna be mad at retro gore go take a look at all the people doing ips swaps on the gameboy. Wait till those prices rise when they are already high. Also if it cost as much as a fridge in a 3rd world country I would argue they should be buying the fridge instead.

@@BelowAverageGaming thats my case, i live in Brazil and gameboys prices have been sky rocketing latelly. importing is even harder because of taxes. Not talking about the value of the money. A US dolar costs 5x Real, so 15 dollars is actualy 75 Reais. besides more 20 dollars shipping its 175 reais, when it arrives here (if it arrives) its 60% taxes on total 280 reais (its 1/3 monthly salary on minimum wage) to get something that crossed half the world, could been broken on transport to arrive 9 months later. So its quite hard to get those around here.
@ZippletTech
@ZippletTech Жыл бұрын
@@BelowAverageGamingIPS swaps in a gameboy are not "retro gore". I'm one of those in the gameboy community that repairs old consoles so I'm very familiar with it. Most of the time people are doing this to consoles that have bad screens and would otherwise be unusable. Even when this is done to consoles with good screens it does NOT detract from the experience of being able to play your gameboy - it makes the screen easier to see in low light. Terrible comparison imo - what you are doing destroys super gameboys by making them only play a single game (or a single flashcart). An IPS mod does *not* destroy a gameboy.
@guilhermecaiado5384
@guilhermecaiado5384 Жыл бұрын
@@ZippletTech You are distorting the issue. Im not talking about ips screen on a gameboy. Im talking about destroying for good a supergameboy cartridge, that could be used as is to play any gameboy game on the snes, is now stuck inside a custom cartridge dedicated to a pokemon game. Dont read me wrong, i aprecciate your work, but believe that a supergameboy could be redone, replicated for this use (or others) not one original destroyed, maybe the first one, just to engineer it backwards, but not one after the other. This way soon enough there will be no cartridges left.
@YoISkate90
@YoISkate90 Жыл бұрын
You guys need to let this man live lol Anything that changes something from its original form should be seen as "destroying" it which this didn't do lol especially if it can be reversed. Just like how you can swap your screens, he can also put the 32 pin connector back in just as easily as it was taken out. He already said he kept them. so how is that destroyed? It is a waste for just 1 game. But if your main concern is the prices for this getting more expensive because of this I disagree. Him owning or anyone for that matter owning more than 1 SGB would take things out of circulation. Modded or not. Lastly, it's the dudes own personal property. If he's free to leave crap stored in an attic or basement like half of retro tech then he's allowed to repurpose something for his personal enjoyment.

I've found that these flashcarts usually don't have a functioning clock, which makes them pretty useless for gen 2 IMO.

It actually mentions that in the description that it doesn't work before I bought it. There are ones that have it though!

The everdrive GB X7 supports real time clock for the gen 2 Pokémon games. Definitely recommend it. Make sure it’s the official one by Krikzz.

the next step would be to make a new PCB that combines the super gameboy with the parts for a flash cart to make a sleek 1 board design!
