@@magistradox39nah he wasn’t doing falling leaf. Sounds more like he just thinks any edge to edge movement is carving, and I see that error made all the time with noobs, and even some intermediate riders

Me and my friend both learned to snowboard on the same day in march 99, if you were to watch us both ride now, 25 years later, his board just drifts, often much later than his body , especially along heel tuns as he rides with his body twisted, so his chest is facing downhill. Its twrribly scruffy to watch, whereas i listened to the advice of good teachers like this dude, and its snappy edge to edge carving, fast, smooth and buttery. So enjoyable at high speed and effortless. ❤

Pro tip: make sure you always face the wrong way and have your toes hanging over your edge
@longebane2 күн бұрын
Nah, Kevin actually has a decent toe carve here. It’s not deep but it’s there. It’s his heelside that needs work, and that’s a very common problem for beginners and intermediate. It’s just unfortunate because Kevin is also trying to teach carving while not being very good at it. His upper body is turning in the right way, but his lower body positioning always gets him in trouble
@coldwarrior23Күн бұрын
@longebane good analysis. The tragedy of freestyle/sideways stances is that it becomes extremely difficult and uncomfortable to get your knees and hips pointed down the hill to carve even turns consistently. Í spent over 40 years riding and 20 of that alpine carving. When you're sick of jumping and getting hurt; learn to carve properly. You'll go faster and ride any trail confidently.

Along with increased edge angle, the other key is even pressure along the working edge from tip to tail.

He fails to mention on a hard carve.. you really want to shift your weight to your front foot. At like a 60-40 split.. the angle is one thing./the leaning edge of the board.. but you you also must be comfy with the pressure of holding the edge and looking for your line while keeping your weight centered and pressure on your front foot to hook that edge. With a cleaner carve you can actually incease you're speed by less resistance.

When I try to carve, I always tend to hang with my board flat (as in not on either edge) for just a bit too long no matter what I do, how would I fix this? Just commit more?
@Incantare13Ай бұрын
Before coming out of a carving turn to switch edges, extend your knees slightly for a split second, and therefore decrease the pressure on the edge. During that time, you need to switch your weight from back to front or vice versa. You can see in this video that he does it too. This will help you switch edges more quickly.

Imagine your center of mass while carving being a point straight up from the ground. When on either your heels or toes it should never be directly above your board. The key to smooth carves is in the transfer of your center of mass from one side to the other. I wish I could explain it better but I hope that helps on your next day on the trails
@RandonTripАй бұрын
Honestly, the best thing I have to see is the best two things to learn first is how to carve and how to go on your heels and toes
@andrewconnor4429Ай бұрын
Carving is best done with the body posture vertical straight not folded, and hands over tip and tail, tip the whole frame over to match the pressure do not stick yout butt out or over stand up pelvis forward on the toes..and to really set the edge use the front knee to twist the board into the edge, again matching what you want to do. If you aren't low enough and not hands over tip and tail enough and trying to just wing it, the result is inefficient and sloppy and will get you in trouble trying to ride fast on ice

Looks easy, but I still have to practice posture and weight balance... if I try "sitting in a chair" my weight shifts too far back, and the board slides away from under me instead of the edge digging in the snow... practice needed
@longebane2 күн бұрын
Do not sit in a chair (not in the traditional sense). You want to tuck your butt under you as you lower your knees. Sitting in a chair forces you to lower your chest to counterbalance, reducing the range of motion you have to apply edge pressure. This video sort of makes the same mistake for heelside. For practicing, stack all your weight over your board with your spine straight up. Don’t hinge at the hips yet until you get this motion down.
