Honestly missing a propeller is a bit of a let down sure you will lose speed and will have to compensate a bit more but you still got 3 propellers kepping you in the air Hole in floor yeah thats a big problem

Wow, I've never heard someone explain an explosive decompression like that before. I have never considered just how disorienting I can be. I haven't thought about the fact your ears would instantly pop but of course it makes sense. Suddenly becoming blind and deaf, it's like a flashbang went off

Having flown in 68R she was a tough Electra. I knew Jim Gibson and he was a great pilot and always thank you to us Radio guys. I know he has passed and we lost a great person, friend and pilot.

Woah... Glad they are all survived despite being put into very critical and dire situation... All of the crew were calm and smart enough to think fast and synergize with each other. What a team, Top class!!

You know this incident ended well if one of the pilots had been interviewed. Usually in a bad crash, its almost certain the pilots are dead

I’m not making assumptions. But I think that the propeller came off and made a gash in the fuselage because, the Lockheed Martin L-188 Electra had many problems with its engine and one of those problems was that the engines RPM could have been to high so that engine was moving to fast so the prop flew off and made a gash in the fuselage. The Electra has had a troubled history

The truly amazing thing was how they landed as the engines were stuck on cruise power. They shut down engine two and controlled the altitude by raising and lowering the landing gear

Reminds me of that flight full of passengers near Greece, I think, where there was a decompression event and everyone on board succumbed to hypoxia, but the plane kept flying until starved of fuel and crashed.

Hell yeah we do! The pilots I know who don't are in the minority! They're very comfortable and perfect to wear with our headsets. RayBan specifically designed their aviators for the USAF! I love my pair! They're 100 bucks but very worth it.

An accident like this actually sheds a lot of light on why propeller-driven planes were phased out for air travel: this wouldn't happen with a jet.

Loss of flight controls due to engine disintegration happened on Quantas Flight 32. Debris shredded the wire part of the fly-by-wire system.

Gökhan Korman No, PACD is not approved for CAT III ops and they likely didn‘t have ILS Autoland back then. Plus the LOC at PACD has limitations anyway.
