It was awesome meeting you there and watching you race! I have a quick story to share. We were watching from close to the starting line and there were a group of older teen/early twenties staff who helped get all the driver teams to their parking spots. One of them was talking about how all the drivers were cocky and rude "except for the guy with the RX-7, he was super cool. I don't know who he was but he was the only one who actually talked to me." He definitely knows who you are now and you made a lasting impression on him. Thanks for being an absolute class act! (For the record, you also took the time to talk to me for several minutes despite being obviously tired and busy with other things, which was totally unexpected but much appreciated). Congrats on making it to the top. I'm super stoked to see how you progress over the next year and can't wait to watch you absolutely kill it next year!

I too am happy to see a focus on safety. Not having a firewall, no transmission tunnel nor ballistic shield, gas pumps inside the passenger compartment, lack of a roll bar from before all made me nervous. So really glad to see all the focus on safety. Also like Rob's attitude of taking it serious and shout-out to the safety crew and inspection. @ralmslb
@ralmslb Ай бұрын
@@3campbep In some aspects, is still a minimum. In many competitive championships, the oil tank won't be allowed to be like that, and needs to be completely enclosed, not only due the possibility of a oil leak but also a fire. While in this case, they were ok with just a couple of sheets acting as a spray barrier, since if there is a oil leak + fire, oil will still be all over the place in that cabin. Historically, Rob doesn't take safety very seriously, regardless of what he says. Otherwise, he would not drive with exposed transmissions and driveshafts, etc.
@michaeltaylor4271
@michaeltaylor4271 Ай бұрын
@@ralmslbyou do know pro mod drag cars have exposed transmissions also. Do you know why they do that? It’s for easier access, you don’t have to go under the car to get to it and take it out, a lot of cars they take the transmission out of the passenger door, So yea just because you think something isn’t normal doesn’t mean it isn’t. And he also has independent rear suspension throw a few titanium driveshaft loops around it and your fine? I feel like that’s pretty basic race car stuff.

Do not use that battery! If the ABS case melted the cells almost certainly got damaged. If the cells vent in that battery it's game over, you can't stop a lithium battery fire with a hand held fire extinguisher. You may be able to suffocate the flames for a minute or so but it will reignite because the cells are already in thermal run away. I have done abuse testing on lithium batteries, and a common way to make them vent is by heating them up.

@thatguyb3rt
@thatguyb3rt Ай бұрын
The actual lithium pack in that battery is way smaller than the case, for the most part that case is to make that battery fit a standard form factor. They sell those batteries in all sorts of group sizes so that they can be drop in replacements in stock cars. With that being said you're still absolutely right, while that battery is probably "okay" considering it survived the event I'd still replace it asap, lithium battery fires are no joke.

Might be my favorite video to date. Love the technical content. Reminds me a lot of my first 24 Hour of Lemons race. The prep and antcipation to get ready, but Pikes Peak is on another level due to the risk. Great drop to the team! I was thoroughly entertained.

I raised 75k and Christina Ann Tucker is to be thanked. I got my self my dream car 🚗 just last weekend, My journey with her started after my best friend came back from New York and saw me suffering in dept then told me about her and how to change my life through her. Christina A. Tucker is the kind of person one needs in his or her life! I got a home, a good wife, and a beautiful daughter. Note: this is not a promotion but me trying to make a point that no matter what happens, always have faith and keep living!!!

Knowing now that you also filmed for TG on this too makes sense why you went dark on YT for so long. I googled your name, and Pikes Peak earlier this week to see if maybe you ate it since it had been nothing for so long. Glad you are back, and glad that no UPS people had to get shot and dumped into the trunk this time!

Isaiah is an amazing part of your team. It's so awesome to see someone so invested in your success, both mechanically, and individually. Pike's Peak tech comes, he owns up to issues, and when talking about the exhaust you can see he is irritated that he didn't foresee future issues. Truly an indispensable part of the team, and a master of his craft who isn't afraid to continue improving!

That was a tough watch, to have the Pike Peak brass come down to you specifically and then professionally dress you, your crew and your car down with the explicit threat to kick you from the run if you didn't have XYZ done. That's alot to stomach after being on crunch time for months and still not have everything you needed for a run like this, and you stood tall and jumped this extra hurdle. Knowing full well you showed up late and are already on thin ice. I couldn't have handled that kind of genuine ass kicking, and Damn did it on camera and let us watch it. Hope you guys are getting some significant rest after this trial by gut punch, and maybe one day even Rob will know he's still #2 in pain to owning and operating an RX-8.

So happy to see your driving more like a race car driver than driving miss daisy, I use to cringe watching you not downshift and letting the car settle before entering corners and then trying to recover while getting back in the right gear and on the power again. Hats off to you and your team for the amazing amount of work and dedication to this project, thank you for sharing

The Dahm team consistently makes me realise the genre "The Technically Obsessed Achieving Together" is to me what the Romance genre is to my girlfriend, because goddamnit I can't help but feel all the feels by the end of these videos. And you guys do it SO WELL! Like, I'd happily click onto a 1-hour video focused on the dry technical details of preparing a 4-rotor RX-7 for Pikes Peak, and walk away happy for watching. But you guys manage to capture not just the character of the people involved; their passion, enthusiasm, frustration, and personal development; but also the story of working together to achieving something no one individual could achieve. It makes for videos packed with authenticity that, as I've learnt about myself watching the Dahm team's journey, apparently pulls quite hard on the heartstrings. Huge props to your videographer(s) and editing staff, it's no small effort on their part to pull all this out of what on paper is automotive content, and they really should be applauded for it! Also, this video is a masterclass in receiving constructive criticism and finding the positive in setbacks. There was no pushback, negativity, blaming others or circumstances, or cursing the sky for your misfortune at any of the hurdles thrown up by the inspectors or the testing/shakedown mishaps; just acknowledgement, accountablility, and improvement. I truly learnt something about this from this video. And mad respect for Rob's consistent and vocal gratitude to all the people and businesses that help him and his team realise this dream of theirs, it's infectious and inspiring, and really goes to show how being vocal of what you're thankful for is a positive for both the people you're saying it to and for yourself. As always, thanks for giving us all a window into the Dahm team's journey, and congrats on making it to Pikes Peak! Who knew when you started on the 4-rotor that this was where you'd end up?! Can't wait for the next video, I'm so excited to finally see (and hear) what this beast can do on the world's most famous hillclimb, and in an official event no less!!!

Baller! Watching the lady check your firesuit you can see just how serious these people are about safety, which is definitely a good thing. I don't know if I'd be entirely comfortable driving up that road at normal speeds nevermind racing it so safety is definitely the most important thing there.
