One important question that no ones asked or at least I haven't seen it is, what card card processing company to use for in person payments when starting out? I assume you don't always want to wait for the check to come in. How do you accept in person payments and how do you provide an invoice in person?

Stripe

Square, stripe, etc lots of free services you can use for invoicing and running payments. There usually around a 3.5% fee for cards though and I always pass it on to the customer if taking card payments. Though most people in my experience pay with a check, cashiers check, or sometimes cash but not card that often.

So I'm wanting to start this as a side job, but I'm kind of stuck. So the company I work for has a very vague rule about after hours work. I really don't understand the rule. I want to do some stuff on evenings and weekends(minus Sunday unless it's dire emergency dictated by myself for my religious beliefs). I'd like to start advertising, but with my current job I'm afraid to do so. I'd really like to do this as a full time job, but currently I don't feel it's a good plan to just tell my current employer hey I'm quitting to no job. Any advice would be extremely helpful!

Hey man, handyman business is HUGELY dependent on reputation & repeat customers. So the startup can be slow. What I'm doing is some moving side jobs through U-Haul (movinghelpers) to help keep me busy in my first year. Just an example of how you can help that customer build up curve.

I've never heard of moving helper. Just looked into it because of your comment. I'm going to look into it some more and probably start doing it. Thank you so much!

Had a friend DIY some structural components. His toilet had cut floor joists. He really shoulda called someone but he tried to work around it but still left the toilet area unreinforced. It's going to bite him later with leaks if that toilet isn't properly supported, and it gets the subfloor soaked in wetness right next to the shower too. His logic? Well it worked for x number of years when they did it that way the first time and this is at least an improvement. SMH

1st step is make sure you don’t set up in California. They don’t want gas cars sold there anymore by 2035. (I bet they will move that up as time goes on). Just testing waters right now. But other than that good video.

I'm a little confused as to why you think that will affect the handyman businesses or other trades? If anything, we'll all be in battery trucks or driverless trucks that we can send to the supply store to pick up material while we keep working on the job! Those are things some people don't think about until they're broken down and waiting for a tow at 5pm on a Friday while on their way to the store for that $5 fitting to finish the project and collect that $$$ 😄

@@stephenmurphy4604 because if your talking about a power drill I get it. But your not thinking about lawn care businesses. Not to mention when all of sudden you can’t own anything gas it’s not just handyman or lawn care it’s emergency services. It’s not that simple to make a blanket time that you aren’t allowed to own anything gas.
